  • Hear good things about the BES870 as a quality budget coffee maker. Do see them for sale on facebook and gumtree a bit, generally for around $300-400 second hand. Imagine a warranty is a useful thing to have given all the moving parts. Any comments from the ozbargain brainstrust.

Got this from the last deal. Takes a bit of time to learn everything but once you get going you will never go back to instant coffee. Would also definitely buy it new - you just never know with second hand

Makes me picture a person standing in front of the ocean asking if there's any water around!

Meet the most popular and most discussed coffee machine on the entire OzB - Breville Barista Express. Enjoy the rabbit hole!

(BES870 is Breville Barista Express, the extra BKS in this model is just the colour).

If you want some trivia, this machine was featured in an episode of "Better Call Saul"; the scene where Howard Hamlin makes a coffee for his wife in 2004, despite this model not coming out until 2011!

      • Literally unwatchable

        • Not sure about the TV, but all the seasons are on Stan and you can also buy on multiple platforms.

      • Daniel LaRusso also has one in cobra kai

    • They are capable of making an excellent cup of coffee. Like any other machine though, it all depends on the person using it. If you take some effort to learn how to dial in the machine, pull a great shot and froth milk properly, you will be very happy with this machine.

  • Had this for a few years now. Good all in one unit. Easy to use once you get used to it.
Would upgrade once this one stops working but while its going does the job

    • Upgrade to what? Any recommendations?

Depends on your budget, but from the existing machine, you can choose to purchase a seperate grinder that will perform a much better job of grinding evenly depending on the type of burr while keeping the BES870 OR choose to buy both a espresso machine and a grinder. Within the breville range, the only thing that comes to mind is the breville dual boiler or even gaggia classic pro. Really does depend on the budget.

  • Had this for a bit now and really like it. Never considered myself a coffee snob, but can't go back to instant after using this. Only complaint is the grinder isn't super amazing. Occasionally I wish I could do a half step or something.

  • I've used this machine since 2016. A solenoid died a few years back and was quoted something like $300 for parts and labour + 3 weeks to get it fixed. I ordered the part from a supplier whoch arrived in 2 days and fixed it myself in an hour for $100. I love this machine and plan to continue maintaining it myself for as long as parts are available.
