    Got one of these for my daughter's birthday when they were I think about $20. Nice set of games for kids. Chess pieces are very light and plasticky but if you channel your inner Andy Dufrane you could have a set of stone pieces carved out for it within a couple of decades.

      Only just discovered when I stepped on one of the chess pieces (grrr) that the black cap on the bottom can be popped off and the pieces can be weighted with a filling of your choice.

    Beware, this is not made of wood. it is particle board and will break very easily. Also the game boards are printed on paper and then glued on to particle board. How do I know? Bought one in the last deal when it was $17, still trying to retirn it back…

        Don’t listen to him. For the price it’s well worth it. The pieces are plastic but you can easily buy wooden pieces off eBay.

          May be a bit more review, the chess piece are half the size as “normal”, the checkers diameter is about 5c coin. The chess piece are so light that a slight bump of the table half if it fall over. all platic pieces have die cast lines clearly visible. Over all i regret getting it

            @huu: I mentioned that you can get better wooden pieces on eBay to give it a sturdier set. The actual piece is actually good quality in my opinion, and as long as you change the individual chess and checker pieces then you’re set

            It’s 14 dollars, what do you expect?

              @Psygnosis: @Psygnosis The chess pieces also have a removable cap on the bottom so they can be weighted down.

        Since almost every board game and puzzle ever made were made out of cardboard, I think that you should be fine.

    I got this last time it was on special, kids loved it and was a great experience teaching them something new. Side note for anyone, it doesn't come with instructions or rules etc. So you will need to google and figure it out yourself if you don't already know.

    Not sure how anybody would expect solid wood for under $20. I got it at $17 and it's great for the price. If it's getting enough use for it to deteriorate, then you've had enough mileage to justify a decent upgrade.

    Agree with comments above, not great quality, but if you don't have these sorts of board games already $14 is probably about right, as long as you are aware that materials unliekly to last the test of time.

      Personally I apply some Caro-Kann All Purpose Timber Sealant every 6 months or so, you need to apply it in thin layers though because it's water based and too much at a time seeps and makes the MDF swell

    People complaining about the quality can buy more expensive ones and hope they'll last. I bought 2 of these when they were $17 a couple of weeks ago. I'm quite happy with it for the price I paid for it. I think you get more than what you pay for.

      I got one in the last deal, and for the price paid, it's absolutely fine 👍
