Is this a first referral discount of $30?

    • +2

I think you are spot on. You have to click their dedicated link which is in the exact same format as a standard referral link. I guess time will tell but people shouldn’t get their hopes up for double dipping referral bonus plus this offer.

    • no. i have just used twice ;-)

  • does Afterpay have impact on credit score?

    • +5

Currently no but not sure if that will change in the future when they have to align more with the credit industry.

    • +1

No, which means they solely rely on the provided ID information to identify a customer, and you can use that to your advantage.

I was asked by a bank how often i used BNPL services when i was talking to them about a mortgage.

      • +1

My bank asked me to close some of my BNPL before approving my mortgage.

  • New Afterpay customer only

Now if only they werent selling street fighter 6 for $100 : /

What's the defining standard of "new customer" here? Different phone number is enough?

  • Just checked their FAQ section about credit checks. I still don't understand if they are going to do a credit check? Below is from the FAQ.

Afterpay may conduct a soft credit check for new customers when they first sign-up to use the platform. This soft credit check will not impact a customer’s credit score.

I signed up with afterpay almost at the same time as with Zip. Afterpay didn't affect my score but zip did, and when i asked for a loan i was recommended to close my zip account and get a letter from them confirming that it was closed. Still have afterpay to this day and had no issues

      • Thanks. Couple of years ago I'd signed up to Latitude Pay and I don't think they did a credit check but similar to youI had to get a letter from them when applying for a loan.

        • Yep, interestingly, since Afterpay didn't show up on my credit report, i wasn't asked to provide a letter with them, hence why i still have an account open, but haven't used it in a year.

          • @pichxlonco: Yep I'd only used latitude pay once cause they had like $50 off or something from Good guys. Never after.

        • Are they out of business yet? Hope so. Totally incompetent

          • @hamwhisperer: Who latitude? Only latitude pay was shutdown. I believe the rest of their stuff is still very much alive.

    • Signed up with Afterpay, Latitude and ZipPay. Only Latitude shows on my credit history, although Zip does clearly say that it can show too in their terms.

I have never used Afterpay before, is there a fee to sign up or any ongoing fees?

    • +1

Only fees if late making payments

    • No fees if your auto repayments go through. You can also manually make all the payments early with your credit/VISA debit card with no fees, it's actually pretty generous to the user. It's the retailer who pays all the fees. But the margin on what the retailer sells is higher than the fees so everybody wins, but especially Afterpay. It's all the other BNPL providers who didn't reach mainstream status that aren't making any money. Credit costs money even if it's for just two months.

Of course some people won't make the repayments on time, but most people aren't in that category. Afterpay have recently capped their late fees, but you really don't need to think about it if you're a responsible person who pays your credit card on time to avoid all fees anyway https://help.afterpay.com/hc/en-au/articles/16254446626969-I…

I use after pay for everything to maintain a high reward status, just in case they one day offer good rewards.

      • +1

Yes if you are good with budgeting, there is absolutely no reason not to use afterpay. Afterpay now makes money on merchant, usually 6-8% per transaction.

    • +3

I always pay Zip and AfterPay off immediately. I use them for rewards, promos and credit card award points (the same as I use my credit card) Don't use them as a money lending option and you can't get caught out with fees.

But ultimately Afterpay won't cost you anything if you make the scheduled payments.

      • +1

And I actually like that Afterpay breaks it up into four payments because that's four reminders of what you bought. If I bought something on my credit card that I shouldn't have I only see it on my statement once, if I even check the statement that carefully. But Afterpay gives you four different app notifications of the payment from that specific store, and four emails. It makes me remember my wasteful purchases and avoid them again in the future, or avoid doing them so often anyway.

      • Does it make a difference if you pay it all immediately or pay in 4 instalments? Or either way you're fine as long as your credit card (or whatever payment method you used) is still active to deduct the scheduled payments?

        • +1

AfterPay: No difference. Just make on time payments.

  • Good to buy switch game..

Final fantasy xvi will be good deal

  • Any idea what might be worth picking up?

    • +1

3 games recently released.. Zelda street fighter and Diablo… All must haves imho

And I haven't bought a game in ages

  • Good for those wanting to get a discount on the new diablo.

I'll be using this to get some cake decorating things though, was going to get them anyway, this just sweetens the deal.

  • I can see anywhere but does it have to be toy/game/playhem purchase?

  • How long do you have to have your past account closed off before being considered a new customer?
Someone has mentioned that AP never fully remove the KYC data from their systems.

    • i too wonder about this as I closed my Afterpay account sometime in mid 2022…

knowing Afterpay, it is probably not worth $20 dealing with them again really…

  • how can i increase spending limit on afterpay ? for me it turned out i already had an afterpay account which i used once in 2020, it shows spending limit of $600 how do we increase that ? does it mean purchase price of item cannot be more that $600 or amount owing cannot be more that $600 ?

    • +1

It starts off at $2000 I thought? Increases or decreases are made depending on your history. For eg. More payments on time -> increase. If you attract late fees you'll have your amount decreased.
Should be fairly easy to increase to $3000 and it doesn't count on credit score. You can also pay it off using a credit card like Amex, which attracts points and further increases time required to pay off.

      • It starts off at $2000 I thought?

It was $600 when I signed up back in 2021, and then increased to $1000 after a couple of purchases which I paid off immediately.

      • -1

FYI if you pay it off with a credit card it counts as a cash advance, which means fees/interest.

        • Incorrect.
It counts as purchase, and you receive CC reward points accordingly.

I think you are confusing AfterPay with Revolut.

"Promo code is not valid". Brand new account created 12:05am 5th June.

    • +1

Neg revoked. The afterpay app is buggy as hell (seriously, wtf, this is 2023 guys…) but the promo section has recognised I entered the code eight hours ago. Got new Zelda for $49.

  • If only I could navigate the damn application. It's constantly freezing / not recognizing button presses / loading forever.
I don't know why they won't bring phone features to PC's or even bring the Afterpay app to the Microsoft Store.

  • Got an XBox Wireless Controller for $46 delivered. Happy with that. Thanks.

Also, the Afterpay app sucks festy balls.

  • Jist tried it amd got knocked back

    • You must be redeemer 5,001.

      • Nah.. turns out its only NEW customers.. not NEW transactions or first time transaction with Bigw using AP.

The promo wording is somewhat Weaslie.

Download the Afterpay app & save $30 on your first purchase at BIGW, in-store or online.

        See what i mean?

Also TnC's under that and instructions on promo page say nothing about it too.
