Note: Should have an international warranty (not certain).
Note 2: Tax free thresh hold is $1000 AUD, so this is under it :)
Note 3: I would highly recommend putting in an SSD http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77033

  • This is an amazing deal!!

  • can we get the $100 rebate when purchasing this laptop ?

    • Its in the description "Website says there is a rebate but the terms and conditions state united states only."

      • Can we put the address of a friend or mail forwarder?

      • can i still use the HDD if i replace it with SSD ?

  • Similar to http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77208

(Better specs vs local supplier ,which I believe would include GST etc)

    • I did see that, which is a good deal! GT640M LE is quite a bit more powerful then the 6470M though & Newer Ivy bridge chipset is meant to be about 10% more powerful but use less power if i remember correctly. Also this has IPS screen Vs TFT screen on the $799 one.
Just on that sony website, they have free shipping as a fathers day promotion.

I would personally pay the extra for the newer model and more powerful CPU & GPU especially with the FHD screen, But hey that's just me… http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77208 for $150ish less is still a good deal :)

      • I agree mate, I'd personally pay a bit more. BH Photo are great to deal with too

      • I just bought this laptop a few days ago http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77208. not sure i bought return and get this one? The problem is the warranty, as Australia doesn't have this model. All S series 15.5 are i7 model.

I had a look at this mysony site and it is $917 with $5 shipping to Australia (US dollars). Seems like a better deal than B&H, or am I missing something?

      • Hmmm I guess it is… Is that site reliable though? cant see any reviews.

Can you please link to Sony Global warranty? I know someone who actually called Sony Australia today and they stated that warranty is by region and a Sony Notebook purchased in the USA is not covered in Australia.

    • Can't find anything on the sony website about global warranty either.

"This Limited Warranty is valid only on products purchased and located in the United States of America (excluding territories), United States military facilities or Canada."

I know people have mentioned not having issues getting warranty service here in the past, but the current wording of the warranty seems to specifically exclude it…

        • I guess they do say that, but from everything ive read and from people that have bought from USA, Sony Australia will repair any problems free of charge.

  • Sony has a "Tourist Limited Warranty" but it is not applicable to all products. Unless stated, I would assume that this laptop does not have it.
