  In that price range I'd much rather get a Shimano Saragossa, if anyone else wants to become a fishing reel nerd I suggest checking out Alan Hawks fishing reel reviews

    Slammer holds more line and much higher max drag. Saragosa is lighter and has a higher gear ratio. Horses for courses. If throwing lures at tuna, bonito and the like I'd choose the regular Slammer in the HS models

      A 140000 or above Shimano is a better comparison
      if I'm dropping around $400 for a heavy off-shore reel it's really only the Saragossa I'm looking at until someone I trust recommends something else or there are detailed teardown reviews available, not to say this Penn is inherently bad in any way it's just that the Saragossa is amazing for the price.

        Some things in life you cant just look at statistics and fishing reels are definitely one of them. I have both reels and the Saragossa is a far better feeling reel. A testimate to there quality nearly all the charter boats use them for the school tuna now.
