More Aussie businesses may be sold to pay for submarines.

    • +14

This is what naturally happens when the government owns all the Aussie businesses, because that's how business stuff works, I assume!

    • +11

The government is also facing a rising age pension bill, do you think KFC will be up for sale due to that?

Maybe if someone buys out Red Rooster we could get a new hospital?

I feel like "Subway/Submarines" was a missed opportunity, but yeah.

I was thinking Subway as well. Certainly cheaper than the ones we are looking to buy.

Lucky people have personal super to supplement their retirement. Otherwise it will be even worse.

        • +7

Financial planners recommend most retirees have a balanced portfolio of chicken wings and chips alongside the sauce, slaw and salads, though one outspoken critic took to a public information forum to warn of the possibility of the chip box not being filled all the way up.

@CrowReally: What sort of a Financial Planner would forget the mashed potato?

He didn't say what he liked them for, though. He could be using them to re-line the insulation in his house. Or maybe as a home invader deterrent.

    • Their standard crust is garbage, you have to get deep dish every time or else it's absolute rubbish.

Same with Domino's, the deep dish crusts make them at least somewhat palatable.

      • Yeah… nah

  • Do they own the Taco Bell stores in Australia too?

    • No. That's Collins Foods https://www.collinsfoods.com/

      • +1

And the company that now owns Pizza Hut owns Taco Bell in the US. What a weird situation.

        • Yum Brands, and they're jerks. Not as bad as Darden Restaurants but still money-hungry jerks.

I just hope they don't bring their American labor practices across the ocean with them.

Apparently they operate 441 Applebee, 282 Taco Bells, 130 Paneras, 369 Arby’s, 941 Pizza Huts, and 192 Wendy’s, making it the largest restaurant franchisee in the USA.

  • Well shit, their cheese lovers pizza is great for a chain. Can't wait for them to be stripped down and prices increased by this mob.

Maybe in American style they'll bring back the all you can eat pizza…

  • There was never any quality to there pizzas so nothing to loose.

  • +4

I mean, they were already owned by Venture Capital firm Allegra - so it's not that big of a difference in the grand scheme of things.

    • +1

And isn't Allegra one of those Investors that strips things back

Pizza Hut was a failing brand here. Used to be huge but it's like the old owners didn't know what to do with it. Shame it was sold to a foreigner and not to an Australian group, but meh, if I owned it I probably would have sold it to the Americans too if it meant I got to keep more millions for myself.

I worked in the public service straight out of school. My boss was moonlighting at Pizza Hut for extra dough!!! Pun intended. Initially, large pizzas were really large as were large drinks. It wasn't a bad place to go. I remember my boss complaining that they had been instructed to halve the toppings (back in the 1970's). They actually had to weigh them to make sure they didn't overdo them. Nowadays the size of the pizza is so much smaller. I wonder how much the toppings weigh compared to those days pre-halving and post-halving!

    • +1

Yep I got instruction from the boss to make sure the topping cup was an inch and half from full and nice and loose in nineties. Then we got a lot of posters put up from head office about how to make sure the cups were full.
