      True but EastDigital have been very good with warranty for all the drives from the group buys, going so far as paying for expedited return shipping both ways.

    Be warned: these drives are loud. The loudest ive ever owned. They sound like a floppy disk getting mangled by a garbage disposal. So loud that im finally going to pull tbe trigger on a NAS so i can get the mayhem out of my office and into the garage.

      your disks might not support it but use hdparm or similar to modify the automatic acoustic management (aam) properties. some disks support this and let you trade performance for noise.

      # hdparm -M 128 /dev/sda

      /dev/sda:
      setting acoustic management to 128
      acoustic = 128 (128=quiet … 254=fast)

      something like that

            @congo: Packaging was good. Small cardboard box with at least 2 inches of foam packaging on all sides of the drive. There was a small form insert in the middle with a cutout for the drive.
