but i buy these on ebay for like $1 and free shipping?

It seems that CR2032 is a mess on eBay - most $1 (or even $2) a piece listings are selling fakes (very obvious fake packaging with wrong spelling).

CR2450 seems fine, but are Chinese stock, instead of proper AU stock.

If BingLee is selling legit stock, and you're buying maximum at a time (I can add at most 10 in cart) then the price is borderline resonable.

I think we need the good old Costco 20pk deal (but unfortunately haven't been running for over a year by now).

The Costco ones were a great deal, I've had fake Maxell and Panasonic from eBay (yes, the sellers offered me instant refunds when I brought that to their attention), stopped buying from them.

        • I'm just using them in sensors so fakes are OK to use… But eBay prices for those fakes are really not that competitive anyway.

damn, I also bought some CR2032 (10 packs) from ebay 'authorised reseller‘, working good so far
          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/295180925100

Wondering how you can tell its fake or not?

          • +1

@li1123k: Usually I've found they have really crap battery life (even when used in Xiaomi sensors).

Some of the fakes also have the Energiser/Maxell logos made up of tiny laser etched dots (think dot matrix printer style).

I'm thinking of trying some of the off brands like Tpower next

@bdl: ok thanks for sharing, just checked the one I bought which looks legit, package says its made in Japan with exp date in 2032, supplied for maxell hk

          • @li1123k: IDK, but my eBay-bought Panasonic fakes are very obvious - words are spelling wrong, expiry date is directly printed along with other text intsead of embossed font.

      • Nothing beats the one from Ikea….. Sadly its discontinue….

        • Haha! For some reason all the remote I bought from IKEA came with half-full battery that dies after only 2 months. When I pair the remote into my ZHA/Z2M I can see the battery level is always below 50% until I swapped a new cell in. Maybe I'm just unlucky.

    joke post?

  • Might consider if it's an new stock…

Button batteries are one of those high value/low weight items that just never seem to scan properly for me at the self serve checkouts.

    • I just stop buying batteries from supermarkets altogether ;)

  • The last time I looked into 2032s I decided to try Kmart at 4 for $5. No idea yet how they perform over the long term.

    • Thanks for the heads up, will try a pack

  • I just buy 20 x no-name brands for $6.95 or less shipped. For instance this listing..

They are good enough for my use case.

  • I bought 2 packs of 4 energizers last week from Amazon Au for $13.70. These seem to last ages, but buy from a reputable source so you have the best chance of getting genuine, and test cell voltage before use. You should get close to 3.3v open circuit on a new 2032 cell - all 8 of mine were a little over this.

One of the better Chinese brands is Tianqiu, that good even the Chinese are faking them, so Tianqiu now incorporate a laser etched label to check authenticity. You can find 5 pack x CR2032 for $2 with free shipping on eBay.

    http://www.tmmq.cn/en/

    $6 postage for a 5mm thick item that costs $1.20 postage - doesn't Bing me ?

  • A quick google told me….

    CR2032 Energizer = 235mAh
    CR2032 Duracell = 225mAh
    CR2032 Panasonic = 225mAh
CR2032 Kmart = 220mAh … doesnt seem too bad hey ..especially at $5 for 4cells..
    CR2032 Maxell = 220mAh
    CR2032H Maxell = 240mAh … no idea what the 'H' means??
    CR2032 Tianqiu = 210mAh

… accuracy guaranteed by google… (ie none)

    • Thanks mate, have some Maxwell CR2032H ordered. 10x for $12 from tapesplus on ebay

      • Let us all know if theyre any good !
I gotta feeling theyre prolly fake, coz $12 for 10x sounds awfully cheap.

Ive bought stacks of 10pack button cells through eBay over the yrs, and most of them were fake.
Like alot of them would have the plastic-blister poorly glued to the cardboard, or typos on the printing, or the Expiry date rubber-stamped on by hand.

        • They arrived and have no obvious signs of being fake. I'll capacity test one once my anko test is done

        • From my test it had good capacity (~230mAh, close enough) but the IR seems a little higher than I expected. I'm redoing my Anko test and will do Duracell next but so far it's showing better IR than these Maxell's.

          • @ScottyDont: Legend ! Thanks !
Curious, how do u test these things ?

            • @wildchill: CR2032 can't handle fast discharge, so I've used 3.9kOhm to discharge over 10-12days in line with it's max discharge rate that gives approx full capacity. For IR I also have a 90Ohm that switches on before doing a second voltage measurement, giving approx 30mA load. I am reusing an esp8266 that sends temperature to home assistant via mqtt every 5 mins, so now it also sends those two voltages and graphs it all. Then I extract the sensor data with phpMyAdmin to calculate the results. If the voltage is really low with the extra load it indicates the battery may cause the device to stop working as it dips below its minimum operating voltage. I intend to compare the results of a few different brands now that it's all set up so I can see what easily accessible batteries are worthwhile. Now that I think about it more the high IR of Maxell's make sense as it's all a tradeoff, for a given package size you can max out power or energy, not both

    • H = high capacity :)

  • Now just $1.70 with EXTRA15
