In that previous deal the tent material is 210T polyester which is worst in comparison to this current deal which has 20d nylon. Nylon is more water resistant and tear resistant.

      • Fair. Also found this:
"Polyester must be thicker and therefore heavier than nylon in order to maintain the same tear resistance."

  • Not as good as previous deal..

  • I have a naturehike motorbike tent. Its pretty good. However the zips are as expected on a budget tent. They work for now, but not sure how long for.

    Finally a solution to renting.

  • Or you could try this FE Active tent (https://www.amazon.com.au/FE-Active-Resistant-Backpacking-Ca…) which is significantly cheaper (currently $95, usually $110), weighs only 150g more than the Naturehike but is also 15cm wider and 10cm taller in the middle than the Naturehike. It does only have a waterproof rating of 3000mm on the floor compared to 4000mm for the Naturehike. Not sure if that makes an appreciable difference (especially if you use a ground sheet).

We bought the 4-person version of the FE Active last year and have used it a couple of times so far. Seems absolutely fine especially considering the price-point, but not sure if it is any better or worse than the Naturehike.

    • thats a cheap ten, however the mongar has much better internal space with the roof spars. Plus I personally loathe a door that opens upward and over my sleeping bag. Means on a rainy night, you are going to get a wet sleeping bag if you need to get up and wee. Or you can stay in bed and end up with a wet bag lol. I also think the cheaper one will have more condensation issues compared to the nature hike. I have small 3 naturehike tents (not the mongar) but their quality has been outstanding. I also have 6 other tents and more on the past.

      • That's all fair enough, especially the point about pushing out the internal space with the spars. I'm no tent expert so just reporting on what we have. I also got our 4-person on a 50% sale, so it was only $130 :-)

Question on your comment about the tent opening "upward" - can you explain that a bit more (so I understand and know what to look out for in future).
Is that about the side the openings are on - it looks like the FE Active opens at the head/feet whereas the Mongar opens at the long sides?
Or is it about the way the zipper runs?
If it's the zipper - our 4-person has a double zip, so you can open from the bottom and push through, or you can double-zip right around and then come back and open from the top and step over. Or you could take both zips to the side and take one zip up and the other down so you have full height but half-width entry.
It looks (from the photos) like the 2-person version has the same setup.

I've had many tents including 3 naturehikes. This brand is great. Insane value. Mongar is a good design, well thought out and would be nice experience. I love the extra add-on entrance you can get. The NatureHike upgraded cloup up are better for light weight hiking, however the mongar has better internal volume (broader roof and more up and down side walls. Both have excellent ventilation. 20D Nylon works very well and super light.
