  • Read the description to get if for $236 pickup or + Delivery !

  • Can this be kept outside in the alfresco? It will be under cover and away from direct sun.

    • +6

It can be kept outside however the cost to run the unit might be higher than keeping it indoors.

    • +8

I would say the biggest risk having it live outdoors is infestation by geckos / spiders / ants etc (in the electronics and compressor / ventilation areas, not the food storage area).

  • What does a chest freezer cost per year to run, and in particular this one?

    • +4

a review has a picture of the energy rating label showing 177kWh per year, assuming an electricity price of 37c/kWh, yearly $65.50.

      • +1

Is it that high. I checked Origin and it looks like their Everyday Rewards Variable plan is on around 20c/kWh in Victoria.

        • +4

I've based it on peak prices on Origin Go variable in Canberra after an estimate of the increase next month, as their account says ACT, although it may be $5 lower.

    • +2

      https://calculator.energyrating.gov.au/FridgeDetail.aspx
~$46 using 25.9c for ACT (add 25% most places after July/August!)

    • The design of chest freezers makes them very energy efficient. If the specs are correct, in freezer mode it uses 177kWh per year with normal use. Plug in your rate to this, eg in WA, $0.07135/kWh = $12.60 a year.

Obviously if you're opening and closing often, this will increase as it needs to cool down more often, and typically a full freezer will be more effiecient than an empty one.

      • +6

        wow WA electricity is cheap

      • How are you paying 7c /kWh? Isnt the standard rate about 27c??

        • +3

          It’s currently 30.0605c/kWh, increasing to 30.812c/kWh from July 1st.

Legit no clue where Brouw3r is getting that rate 😂

      • +5

Disregard super cheapness, read my solar feed in tariff not usage! 177kWh @ $0.273277 = $48.37 a year.

  • +1

I'm considering buying a small 300~400L refrigerator. Any recommendations? <3

    • +2

      Not Hisense

They have a multitude of issues, but if you’re lucky it’s just something like a defrost timer for ~$60

      • +2

Which ones don't have issues? Westinghouse is cheap crap, LG have faulty compressors with class action court cases against them, Samsung is expensive. Recently had to make the choice and went with Hisense as best price/value plus 3 year warranty. The fridge isn't ideal but I couldn't afford an ideal one.

        • I actually can’t recommend any from experience, as I have a Hisense - hence my knowledge of their issues.

Bought as a factory second, it broke down just after 12 months. Had to push for a repair from the seller (I forget what the issue was, only that it was very very common), a month after that they replaced it under threat of legal action. The replacement lasted the same amount of time before needing a defrost timer (thankfully much easier to replace myself).

        • Pretty sure i read samsung has all the issues with ice problem. Anyways its hard to generalise as these could be older models now and you would think they have ironed out these obvious issues.

    • +2

Would only say Dont buy a Samsung. They are not great. Check E&S store as they have free delivery and great pricing for most of the items.

    • +1

Thinking of getting a hisense myself for one bedroom apartment

    • +2

Have had a Hisence going on to 4 years.

From 2 adults to 2+1 infant.

It will be tested this summer though. The kid figured out how to open it…

      • +1

Infant knows how to open a chest freezer? That must be one tall infant. :)

        • +1

          Haha ! That'd be something !

Its a fridge/ freezer. Was replying to the comment wanting to buy a fridge.

I have a one of 10% off code, expires at midnight, can be used on this or something else from TGG.
    GSES8Y10 is the code

    • I'm not using it but how did you get that? Do they have some sort of Perks program?

      • +1

I received it via email as I bought their concierge coverage on a product. They send them out really randomly, had a 5% voucher last week but prob the first for the year.

    • +1

Code used to buy an upright freezer I've been looking at for a few months, thank you very much @donkcat :)

      • +1

No worries, glad it helped someone

    • Thanks @donkcat. I have updated the deal with 10% off code. Too late for me to use it as I have already purchased it. Cant be bothered cancelling the order. Also looks like limited stock near me in Vic for pick up. Might use this code to buy something else from TGG today.

      • Sorry it’s a single use code, unless TGG messed up it shouldn't work again (havent tested it)

  • +2

Have one and would buy again. Quiet and does the job. Got this a few years ago as it was one of the more efficient freezers for the size at the time. Has a drain plug, a wire rack, wheels, and if memory serves me its got a good external temp range. Was basically that price back then and had local Betta electrical price match and they did free shipping.

  • $286.00 is the lowest for pick up it shows for me, Wife was chasing a small freezer but OOS Butler and Joondalup WA.
4 star rating it would be cheap to run.

    • Check deal description

    • You can call your nearest TGG store and ask them to order it for you over the phone. Most prob they will be getting the stock soon.

  • +1

Can confirm these are pretty good. I have two and still going strong. One started yellowing, but that was an older model, maybe 6 or 7 years old. Mine is a revised look one and about 6 years old and no issues.
Mum has the larger model and no issues either.

I wouldn't hesitate at this price.

  • +2

Store cash has to be used quickly , 10 days maybe? , so its not nearly as useful as something like a gift card, most/many people wouldn't even use it.

The code GSES8Y10 does not work.

There is no "Pay Less with Daily Price Check" button for me.

  • +2

CMN3101E The system is unavailable due to "Promotion code "GSES8Y10" is invalid.".

    RIPOFF
Look at the history of Covid inflation go
Remember the big corps are the enemies

  • This and the Wine Cabinet are the only half decent products that came from this poor excuse for a brand.

  • Student Bean you can get $20 Off code…

    • Interested to know how many students are in the market for a chest freezer.

      • +2

I'm a student specifically for the discounts.

  • any good recommendation for a cold plunge?

  • Have bought one. Thanks OP
I don’t understand the store cash thing. I have signed up for it and have it in my apple wallet but didn’t see anyway to link the freezer purchase to it
Will this be issued when I collect the freezer?

    • +2

As long as you set it up before purchasing, an email will follow in due course (not instant, they have a schedule of dispensing credit)
      .

  • +2

Good freezer, cheap to run; one of 2 Hisense items I consider to be decent.

It's priced $299 pickup @ Betta Electrical - $284.05 for new customers who sign up at the popup prompt to become a "member" if you are looking to buy and not interested in the $50 bonus coupon TGG have and have a Betta Electrical nearby.

  • Does it have a internal light? I think the chiq ones do

    • Nah it does not. Compared it to Chiq - this one is a bit taller and narrower. Chiq looks good too.

  • +1

So picked up this unit today. Got home and saw a big scratch on the cardboard on the Front side. Opened the box and there it was - big dent. Put in back in the box and took it back to TGG. They gave me another unit without asking for anything. Opened the box in front of the them and doubled check.

  • +1

One review says it will fit in the back of a picanto? Should be fine in an i30 then?

    • i30 hatch maybe. Dont think it can fit easy in any sedan though… See the third image on the good guys for box dimensions….
