Any Advice on Upgrading My PC? - Budget $700

Hi this is what I currently have:

SSD: 250GB Samsung 860 EVo, Samsung MZ-V7S500BW
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1 TB
RAM: 16gb T Force
Motherboard: B450 Aorus Pro (Wi-Fi)
Power Supply: Corsair RM750x
Graphics card: MSI GeForce RTX 2060 Gaming Z
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6GHz 6 Core
Case: Thermaltake Versa n27 mid-tower

I would like to upgrade my PC so that I can play games like Starfield at high or ultra high settings. Which parts should I upgrade?

    What's your budget?

My advice would be to start by upgrading your GPU with as much budget as you have.

If you have an additional $200 or so, then I would suggest upgrading to a 5600X, which would give you a bit of a performance bump with more CPU intensive games. You can also have a look at 5800X3D for around $450 if you want a more substantial upgrade, but I wouldn't go here unless you already have a very good GPU (i.e. something like a 4070 Ti or higher).

    • Thank you for replying, I would be okay with spending maybe around $700 ish in new parts. I will look into a 5600X, which GPU's would you recommend?

    RECOMMENDED:
    OS: Windows 10/11 with updates
    Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, Intel i5-10600K
    Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080
    DirectX: Version 12
    Network: Broadband Internet connection
    Storage: 125 GB available space
    Additional Notes: SSD Required

… play games like starfield at high or ultra high settings

    What's your monitor spec? 1080p ? 60hz ?

    • I have a acer predator XB240H, it is 1080p, 144hz

I would spend all 700s on new graphics card.

3600 cpu might hold back rtx4070/rx6800/6800xt graphics card by a bit but not much of a bottleneck to worry of.

RTX4070 about $800s (was once as low as under $650 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/774844 , though unlikely again soon)

rx6800/6800xt about $700-800s (not much of a deal at the moment, was cheaper / same price last year)

next level down is 6700xt/6750xt at $500 or under, better bang for buck compared to 6800/xt current pricing.

they all capable of ultra high settings on 1080p , just not sure if can sustain over 120fps.

        • Thank you for your suggestions, other than my cpu would I also get bottlenecking from my monitor?

@aaronchristy02: Your monitor supports 144hz G-sync (Nvidia) , so no problem going over hundred plus fps.
Check if it supports Freesync for AMD cards, if not then your only choice is Nvidia graphic cards to run above 60hz.

Monitor is mostly your own choice , whether you're satisfy looking at your current 24" size 1080p TN colors , or your appetite grew to prefer bigger screen higher res. curved ultrawide oled / multiple surrounds, or even VR headset for more immersive gameplays. The rabbit hole is endless.

            • @dcep: My monitor only supports g-sync, which NVIDIA graphics cards would you recommend?

    i run a ryzen 3600 with a 6800xt so I'd say something close like a 6800 or RTX3070 would work.

personally i haven't run into any cpu bottleneck yet

at 1080p i would have thought it's more apparent on cpu bottleneck if there is any, (still negligible for this combo)

not much to worry about at higher res.

Checkout marketplace ice seen 6800xts around $650, you could get lucky and also find a good cpu cheap

  • all you need is a gfx card. 4070 imo is the best bet right now.

  • GPU upgrade - done.

    • Which GPU would you recommend?

      • +2

One that is as close to $700 as you can get

  • One of the RX 6800's from here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/780604 and a Ryzen 5 5600.
