  • Wrong oil in description. It's EDGE 5W-40 A3/B4 Engine Oil 5L - 3421235.

    • My bad! looks like a mod fixed it

  • can I use this for my 2009 forester? last time I used nulon 5w30

    • You can check on Repco to see if it's compatible with your car

      • Not that accurate… 5w-30 from Repco brand will fit, but this won't.. How 5W-30 fit (30'C) fit but 5W-40 (50'C) won't…

At lower temperatures and will remain viscous at -30°C, however 5w40 oil outperforms 5w30 oils at higher temperatures, being effective up to ambient temperatures of 50°C, as opposed to 30°C. more detail here

Short answer - yes. Newer more tightly specced vehicles might (only might) get very slightly worse fuel consumption in winter, esp if you live in a very cold region. Your choice but I wouldn't hesitate

    • have a look on the Nulon website oil finder.

For anyone on the fence this is very similar to the usual favourite Edge 5w30, has the same manufacturers approvals (and then some) and is only a touch thicker at 12.8cst vs 11.9cst @100deg C.

    Good deal OP.

  • Old CRV SUV 2006 has done 220k .
    Manual says to use 5w-20.

Would 5w-40 be okay to use?
Heard thicker oil is okay for older cars.

same engine as my Accord Euro (or near enough). We use 5w-30 or 5w-40 interchangably on a 12 month service interval (I just ignore the mileage but you shouldn't).

      • Thanks for your input.
My last car service sticker says they put in 5w-70 which kind of suprised me.
My car was running very low on oil when I checked the dip stick and just topped it up with 5w-40.
Car seems to be running good.

5w-70 is insane on a Honda engine.

The thickest oil Ive heard of is 30w-70, which is to reduce oil consumption for worn engines. I have never heard of 5w-70!

But obviously if you've had to top up after this thick oil you engine is badly worn and you may never need to change the oil again if you have to top up often! And if thats the case I would waste money on synthetic oil as its not going to be in your engine long enough for any benefit.
