Powered by the Optus 4G Plus network

90% of Australians won't notice the difference until they go for a roadtrip somewhere rural.

      • +8

Oddly enough - Optus is the only carrier that works in the rural location I'm traveling to in a few weeks!

        • +9

And Telstra is shocking on Northern Gold Coast City.

Not sure why I've been negged, I work in Telco and know this as fact. Must be people who bought into Telstra's marketing.

While Telstra services over 99% of the population, both Optus and Vodafone service over 95%. In fact, Telstra wholesale (such as with Woolworths Mobile) is on par with Optus, so you need to go with expensive Telstra retail or Boost to eek out that 1% better coverage.

          https://www.opensignal.com/reports/2023/04/australia/mobile-…

        • Get much better data throughput @ Optus where i am renting.

Wish that wasn't so, as i have heaps of belong data on another sim.
Get ok signal but must be congestion ( have tested on Telstra direct also )

      • +3

Telstra is beyond useless in my regional location, Optus works great!

  • +7

Some people may want to consider paying a bit more for Woolworth's Long Expiry Plans and receiving the 10% off one shop each month.

    • +4

Good call - worth noting it's now only available in-store, and not for online purchases.

      • +2

Ah the 10% discount for shopping in Woolies in store and not online

    • +1

Until you have a problem and find out about the non-existent support service! I say NO, dont do it

      • Yep, support is bad. I would pay extra to go with Boost again!

    • Is this the full 4G network? Just asking coz thought I saw somewhere that the Woolies 4G telstra wasn’t everywhere or something like that ?

      • In comparison to Boost, you take half a hit to the speed. Get what you pay for.

    • +1

Except they just changed it to one IN PERSON shop each month. They know that half of their customers are doing click and collect or delivery so they cut their discount cost in half.

      • Woolworths sim isn’t worth it if you don’t need the Telstra network (and I believe isn’t even the full network). Just get a discounted plan and if you still want the Woolies discount just buy the everyday extra.
I have my 10% off with car insurance and then I get a lot of offers with coles. Or I just use Aldi.

        • My Woolies sim has paid for itself ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I get 5% off Woolworths giftcards with my insurance, but 1) I really cbf with the Giftcards, and 2) I'm pretty sure the giftcards can stack with the 10% anyway(?).

    • +3

Be aware as of 1July 2023, Woolworths Mobile 10% off once per month on a Woolworths shop will only apply to instore purchases. On line and Click and Collect no longer available.
I'm not happy as I mainly shop on line.
So am flicking Woolworths Mobile and going to Aldi Mobile.

    • But the Woolworths plan is $61 more expensive than this deal so you would have to spend $610 at Woolworths just to break even. Or $1700 to get it "free".

      • +1

You don't spend $1700 on groceries in a year?

  • +2

I moved from Boost prepaid to CC 18 months ago and I am very happy with the service and coverage.

  • +1

Thanks OP, have you seen any monthly deals (like Amasim deal) last year?

  • +2

    Thanks OP, very tempting.

Don't forget the 3.5% cashback from Cashrewards.

  • I am also using woolworths which has e-sim a great plus as well as the 10% monthly discount that can pay itself off, but it doesn't have free international call.
I got an amaysim for my 10 yo son, a brand new number, which is only used internally within our family and no one outside this house knew this number, but he still keep getting spam call and SMS so I really doubt the integrity of amaysim staff…..

    • +2

Could the number of been recycled and your getting legacy spam from the previous user?

    • Yeah I'd say that number is tainted from a previous owner. Time to get him a new number.

  • Anyone know if you can have multiple services under the one email account? E.g. if you already have a family member under your email account and you want to get this plan as a "new customer".

    • Yes I had three plans in one account and I got discount in all of them.

      • Thanks @ozmau5

  • Left catchconnect around 1 year ago. Would I be eligible for this? Couldnt find any info on it in the website

    • It doesn't say in T&C, but in the past I hopped between providers every 3 months for deals, and always counted as new customer. So I think 1 year should be fine.

    • Yes you're considered as new a customer if you're not recharing your current plan.

  • +1

If you're an existing customer, simply switch to a cheap one month plan like amaysim ($10 for 45GB) and then you can switch back to CC as a new customer.
I've been with CC for about 4 years and every time I get the new customer discount at this time of the year with that method.

    • Do you use the same email when you activate - as a returning customer.
Or do you need a new email address?

It's been a year since I did this and I can't remember. Lol.

      • I only use one email address.
Basically you can buy as many sims as you want and activate all of them in one email address (that's what I've done before).
The only important thing is that you cannot use the new sim for an existing number, therefore if you exit from CC and join again, you are a new customer rather than a returning customer as per CC's definition.

  • Does CC mobile uses wifi calling when you are overseas?

i havnt had the best data quality with catch connect
i dont know if its my settings on my phone or what but the data is slow and disconnects a lot
i have dual sim with boost and its night and day difference

    • What phone are you using?

      • Realme X3 superzoom

    • +1

I had the same experience. With Boost, no problems at all, with Catch, huge slowdowns, still usable, but damn, Boost was excellent!!

      • Yeah it's definitely usable but it's really weird data quality that's hard to explain

Sometimes it's like someone has a switch to your data line and is just switching it on and off 2 or 3 times a second

        • hmm thats weird, I wonder if it is related to the mobile phone? recently had similar issue when in Japan, same sim was fine with my partner's phone. was fine with 3g only connection instead

    • Could it be a Telstra network vs Optus network issue, rather than boost vs catch

  • +1

Make sure you know what you're buying, there are no refunds. Their customer service is very arrogant too.

I went from Boost to Catch, and the speed for data has taken a noticeable hit.

  • Hmm was considering this offer as I’m paying $30pm with Amaysim (unlimited 55GB). Haven’t had any issues with them, just looking to save $$ but from what I’m reading about the dropouts, I’m having second thoughts, particularly paying 12 months in advance & refunds not being an option :-(

    • +1

I've been with catch for several years and never experienced problems like dropouts. I've used amysim and circles as well (both Optus) and never noticed a difference between the 3 of them.

I suspect the issues above are differences between Telstra and Optus, not boost and catch.

    Seems like offer is extended:

Offer ends 18/7/2023, unless withdrawn earlier.

  • not expired now
