I can fit so many legally acquired / public domain movies on this, thanks!

    • also remember your linux ISOs!

btw. I dont have a problem breaking the shit out of $99 2tb drives… I mean who gives a shit? its $99!

      but $269?

      you think again i reckon

I just did it to 4 of them, its not as bad as it sounds, and easy to put them back together for warranty (3 yrs warranty)

        • does your computer or Motherboard have any issues with them?
like are they to large because theyre over 3TB.

        • +1

I put them in a HP Microserver N36L, and had no issues with Windows Server 2012 or Windows Home Server 2011 seeing them.

        • okay, cool.

  • So much storage!!!!! D:

    • +3

U will need a 8TB drive to backup your 4TB…. haha

  • As bill gates once said… "that should be big enough for everybody"

And "you all never fill that up"

    hehe

    • Can never have enough till the NBN and proper streaming services and you wont need to backup dvds and blurays

      wtf

    • +3

that's not what he said. The quote is "640K ought to be enough for anybody" and he was referring to RAM, not Storage, and referring to RAM requirements of the day, there is nothing in that quote which suggests he was referring to the future.

      • +2

And he was right - context was for DOS, mostly a single-tasked "OS" using ASCII-drawn GUI primarily used to generate non-AV content.

  • I'm after some cheap storage…. Can't seem to find a 2tb under $110 though (msy price matched at office works, seagate)

    Guess I just wait more…?

Does OW sell these (to get them for another 5% less?

They used to for $299, the website and stores around here dont carry them anymore tho

  • Anyone had any experience with this aspect:

"The world's most upgradable desktop hard drive. The GoFlex Desk external drive lets you upgrade to faster transfer speeds, and customize your experience to suit your digital life. Offers upgrade cables and kits that make it easy to move up from USB 2.0 to USB 3.0 or FireWire® 800"

How does the Firewire to USB kit work? I have a digital recording interface (Digidesign 002) that uses the old Firewire 400 interface and can daisy chain a hard drive. Wondering whether this would work. Mmm…

  • I'll take six please. They'll fit nicely into my new fractal design array r2 case.

    Cheers for the post.

  • Does anyone know if this drive detaches from the base, and whether it fits into the base of the goflex home?

    • It fits the old goflex 3tb base, so it should fit any "goflex desk" adapter
