I bought this for $53.92 a couple years ago. It saved my arse when I impulse bought 10kg of eggplants and it just sat there for a week, so I decided to grill and pickle them. I put this on my 60K BTU wok burner and probably saved me over an hour if I used a regular cast iron griddle on my shitty electric stove.

Big discount on top of the already discounted price for something that's open box or whatever. For the germaphobes: the heat will kill everything anyway.

    Used by someone. No thanks

    • +2

I doubt Amazon will send you an item like this that's actually used, becuase it would be very obvious. But if it is, send it back.

This is more like going to Aldi or whatever and buying a cast iron pan, or wok etc that's not in a box. Other people have handled it. Eww gross.

Or stfu and wash it when you get home like a normal person.

Less crap on it than in a secondary-market townhouse you've been saving for.

      • -3

No bud. I bought a house and replaced the oven and stove right away.

Not cooking on other peoples appliances. Gross

        • +3

          What about toilets and showers?

          • -3

            @pizzaguy: Bleach kills everything.

Grease over time sticks , forms a layer and is hard to remove, even with heat

            • +2

@easternculture: Heard of degreaser? Commercial kitchens even use sodium hydroxide. Do you eat at restaurants or cook everything at home on your own appliances?

              • -2

@rosebank: I rarely eat out and when i do, im very picky and usually know the owners of the restaraunt.

Trust me, ive tried degreaser on resistant grease and still there was residue. The only true way to remove grease and turn it to ash is via pyrolytic heat (500 degree or more)

Havent tried sodium hydroxide but will look into it. Thanks

            • @easternculture: Bleach doesn’t kill mould. This is a common misunderstanding, vinegar does. Bleach just makes things white.

@pizzaguy: Dude might as well demo the "used" house and build a new one. Builders have to wear hazmat suits and build the house in a sterile tent jfc

I bought a used one a couple of months ago for $49. It looked brand new, the label was still on, and there were no signs of cooking marks or oil.

  • +1

    tiny!

pic on amazon shows dimensions of 16.75 x 9.5" though, which sounds more like it

    • It's def 16.75 x 9.5. Will edit, thanks

      • Are you sure it's not the small press that mickeyb mentioned below?

    impulse bought 10kg of eggplants

    Bruh

    • +2

Lol I do shit like that all the time. I think it was $10-$15. I buy 10kg onions all the time, sometimes 20kg

      • +3

        Me: buying onions maybe… 2-3 at a time like a casual :(

        • +2

lol 3 onions, at least get the 1kg bags

          • +3

@rosebank: Hah I have a habit of incremental shopping , legit go to Coles at least 3 times a week

            • +2

@Jimothy Wongingtons: lol same. 3-4 times a week for markdowns. 5 or even 6 times if my markdowns guy is working that weekend

read the reviews - this is the small cast iron press (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/465521), NOT the larger cast iron griddle. The photos are wrong.

Edit: Reviews actually say both so… role the dice

    • Pretty sure it's the big one, see my reply to @watts

      • I suspect the used one may be the small press.

The new ones are US import, and reading the reviews it appears there are some of the small press model mixed in and being sent out as well.

I suspect someone bought it in Australia from the US, got the small press not the griddle plate, then returned it unopened to Amazon. Amazon then sells it used, without checking or correcting the issue.

I have experienced similar with clothes sold from the US, where the sizes were different to ordered - presumably the wrong barcodes got applied. Aus customers then returned them unworn, Amazon packed them up ad sold them in Aus as used, without correcting the size mislabel.

        • +2

Perhaps. If it is, send it back to the perpetual returns cycle you described

  • Just had a look and it shows the 6 X 4 inch version

  • Saw this yesterday and didn't buy due to the wrong photos. Title and listing is for the Grill press LGP3.
Photos are for the griddle LDP3

  • So did anyone buy one ? What did you get ?

  • +1

    Bought it.
    Received today.
Brand spanking new unit, 9.5'' unit.
    Happy with purchase.
    Cheers OP!

Edit: Fits the 2 burners on standard 4 burner unit at home.

    • Awesome. You got the "used" one right?

      • Accidentally unpublished my comment.
        Yeah man, bought used.
It is a brand new unit. I have few other lodge gears.
Packaging is new, after opening it, it looks new.
There is absolutely no sign of usage by anyone else. I think someone must have bought it and then returned it without using.

        • +1

That's what I thought. I'm gonna get another because my big wok burner can fit 2 easily.

          • +1

@rosebank: Go hard man. This is a good purchase.

            • +1

@Covid19: Yeah, these go for $100+ at the shops. $42 is a no-brainer

    • +1

      Nice. Just bought one.

Hopefully it fits in the 2 burner camping stove.

  • +1

Got mine today and it’s the grill press not the griddle. Bugger.

There was one left in stock so bought another to try my luck again.

    • +1

That sucks. I got a brand new large griddle like @Covid19. I hope you get the big one

      • So do I but not too stressed if I don't since I've already got a bigger one for the house and a smaller one for camping.

The lodge would replace the smaller one which is the lid of a camp oven with grill lines on the underside. Works great but a bit small and means I cant use camp oven at the same time.

      • Another bloody press!! Ah well.

  • Received the griddle and it is brand new.
