[PC, Steam] Disco Elysium - The Final Cut $14.23 (Was $56.95) @ Steam

940

All time low.

From IGN's review:
Disco Elysium is a unique blend of noir-detective fiction, traditional pen-and-paper RPGs, and a large helping of existentialist theory. Its twisting plot, cast of memorable characters, and sheer depth of choice combine to create an experience that begs to be savoured. It hits on every single one of the marks it sets out to achieve and left me yearning to spend more time in its world. Removing any of the minor gripes I had with the original by adding new quests and a full cast of well-voiced characters, The Final Cut elevates Disco Elysium from an already phenomenal RPG to a true must-play masterpiece.

Damn bought this on a previous deal for similar price on Epic but haven't played it.

It's $14.29 at GOG which is almost the same price. But the benefit is you also get a DRM free copy of the game which can be downloaded. Unlike Steam which is DRM locked at all times.

But if you buy steam you’ll get better support on the deck with proton, and steam community achievements

      • That's a good point too.

        • Yeah i like GoG but it comes second to steam if they're the same price.

I didn't really like this game. Pen and paper rpg is a decent comparison. It didn't really feel like a game, more just clicking on things and simulating dice rolls. Stakes never really felt like they mattered. Maybe worth a shot if you are up for reading walls of text and something more like an experiential novel.

Honestly it's one of my favourite game experiences but I get it if it's not your jam, it's either a 10/10 game or a below average experience depending on your preferences. That being said, Cuno doesn't give a f**k about you ultraliberalists.

I've found that the biggest supporters of this game LOVE pen & paper rpg. So I completely support this comment. Will hold my own opinion when I get around to playing it! Still need to get to LOU part 1 on PC, new Zelda, new diablo…. By the time that happens I'll have to drop everything for new Hades and Starfield. A lot of content to get through this year!

i bought it when it looked like it was going to get banned and still haven't gotten around to it… zelda next…!

Better since they added voices in the updates, but still more "graphic novel" than active game

      • Yeah they added voices for everything. There’s also a setting to turn off just the narrator voice, which I really appreciated because imho it’s irritating to wait for all of the narration to be spoken rather than just reading it.

I agree, and I went into this game really wanting to like it. The first 1-2 hours impressed me with the vividly descriptive text and dialogue - as it felt novel to me.

But then it becomes a real chore to "play"

The original creators got pushed out of the company in a super shady move by an investing company, and make no money from these sales. Just a consideration when thinking of buying.

    • I've had it on my Steam wish list for a while.
I think I'll buy it still. The games commercial success might give the original creators a chance/new funding for a new go 🤷

Don't buy this great game, pirate it.

Context: The creators of this game got screwed. https://steamcommunity.com/app/632470/discussions/0/34886272…

@Fergy1987: You probably can't even do this because of the blackout..

      • Yeah, im not looking forward to the day i fall out of the loop of how to pirate shit, i reckon i got a good decade infront of me still.

I was just wondering about that. So mad I didn't get this when it'd have supported the actual creators.

I got it for 2 bucks on gog with vpn. don't give money to new owners

    • Which country did you use? Argentina, Turkey?

      • something along those lines, can't remember

  • +2

nah, don't buy the final cut, make yourself suffer more and buy original where you have to read every single line.

  • DONT BUY. DONT PIRATE.

Wait…no. do the last one. :)

  • +2

Ah Disco Elysium, when piracy is actually the moral course of action…

    • Since when do we change from pirate first, if good, pay to support the devs?

      • You're missing the (troubled) context of the ownership of this game…

        • Nah I got that, have read the exact same comment on some pirate sites 😜 Just thought that was the default course of action regardless of the stories. The wall of text comment was enough to turn me away from the game tho, pirate or not.

  • Hopefully will appear one day on Epic

Meanwhile $21 on Switch, ~50% more of course - https://www.dekudeals.com/items/disco-elysium-the-final-cut

    • That said, bought it anyway, it's great.

  • A lot of comments say to pirate the game but doesn't that increase the risk of downloading viruses and malware?

  • This is still available as of July 1. Got it for my new Steam Deck :)
