[SA] Samsung The Premiere Triple Laser 4K Smart Projector LSP9T $3995 @ Harvey Norman (Marion)

630

I came across this cracker of a price for the Samsung Triple Laser Projector instore today at HN Marion. Apparently they retail close to $9,999 but currently on sale at most retailers for $6,995 hence $3,995 being very attractive.
I couldn't resist at this price!!! Now I just need a find wall at home to use it.
Sorry if I've missed out any details, first post.

sorry having a jv moment here

I would say that it is not worth it. Better get a hisense L9G for almost same price with screen

    • +1

The Hisense does up to 100" while the Samsung 130"
The Hisense does up last an extra 5,000 hours lamp life (25,000 vs 20,000)
So is Hisense superior technology and product to Samsung?
Some review comparisons (based on the old pricing)

You can buy the 120inch model for 4.5k. Still better deal.

"So is Hisense superior technology and product to Samsung"

Yes, not only it is cheaper (has been as cheap as 3.6k in the past) as well as better.

Hisense won the shootout last year.

For those who negged be my guest in waste your money!

        • +6

I watched the video you linked and I saw the Hisense came last. Was the video you linked the actual shootout where Hisense was meant to have won?

        • +11

The problem with Hisense is the Australian model may actually be a small bag of turnips, but it will still have the same model number as USA.

          • @Aureus: And yet still cheaper than US price. You get what you pay for. In the US the 100 model costs 3.5k US dollar.

            • +7

@Dienk: The simple solution is to give the gimped model a new model number. Tricking consumers isn't an ethical business practice.

              • -5

@Aureus: I cant see this being trick at all. The specs on the site matches with specs found in the Australia version.

There is a US version and an internacional version. If you find european reviews they are exactly as the Australians one.

Trick would be advertising the specs different than the one found in the unit.

                • +5

@Dienk: Not talking about this product.

Hisense has done this dodgy practice in the past with TVs. It shouldn't be in the consumer to research if two products with the same model number are actually the same, or completely different.

                • +2

@Dienk: There is an internet full of 3rd party reviews with the same model number. They are 100% trying to trick people and the fact you defend their dodgy practices is ridiculous.

What you have stated would be a trick is not true, that would be false advertisement and illegal. Nobody said what they are doing is illegal, but they are trying to trick people.

  • Wow, that's am impressive price!

I would be confident saying they priced it that by mistake as it should have been $6995 until the 2nd of July…

    • Genuine price.

      • You say that based on what?

  • +3

I would buy it in a heartbeat, amazing for the price.

    • +1

I would avoid in a heartbeat. Formovie Theatre instead.

  • +1

Apparently these projectors don’t sell very well (not commenting on their quality)

    • Announcement date: March 29, 2021

      • ?

        • just food for thought, technology is progressing very quickly, would you buy almost 2yrs old TV? Perhaps with a large discount its OK deal

    • +2

No projectors sell anywhere near as much as TVs.

Sad truth is most people don't buy TVs based on the image quality, size, or the watching experience.

For about 80% of people, it's mostly about one-upmanship, and besides, they are only watching farmer wants a makeover and such.

So projectors can be much better bang-for-buck by miles, but will never beat TVs in sales.

      • I agree with most of that, but how is a $4,000 projector better bang for buck than a normal TV.

Since you can’t compare screen size given there’s no 130” LED TVs.

TVs are better “value” because you can still watch a movie very nicely on a cheap 65” TV at a quarter of the price.

        • +2

There's no doubt a $4000 130" projector beats a $4000 65" TV, even if the TV is a quality OLED, with noticeably better brightness/contrast. 4x the size is still a vastly more immersive experience. It's not close.

For a $1000 90" projector vs a $1000 65" TV, the projector still wins in a large enough room, but it's closer since you're losing 4k and HDR now.

If you're only 2 or 3 metres from the screen, 4k actually matters. So you still might choose the TV in a small room. Or a space with too much light, if you watch a lot during the day.

          • +2

@GandalfTheCheap: The motion handling on these Laser USTs are miles better than any TV I've ever owned as well. So for movies and sports especially that's what has been most impressive for mine.

          • +1

            @GandalfTheCheap: I’d much rather prefer a 65inch OLED to 130’’ of a mediocre projector

            • +3

@cille745: I have a 65" LG OLED and a Hisense PL1H (single laser) + UST screen and both did cost around the same all up. I would definitely recommend going for a decent UST + screen instead if the room isn't all that bright and you have the wall space. Absolutely no doubt about it.

      • -1

65" is a good size for an average lounge room. 120" is pretty great if you can a spare an entire room for it. For that reason projectors won't outsell TVs.

        • +3

Life is too short for a 65" even if it's an OLED! 🤌

          • @dins: We watch FTA news / Sport. With current broadcasts, anything bigger than 65 looks awful to me (downside to having better than 20/20 vision). Power usage starts sky rocketting from 55up.

So 65 is the max for me..

But..have a projector in a converted granny flat with a 4m projection for movies etc.

            • +1

@tunzafun001: Fair enough I think for sports especially these USTs are unreal due to the size and far superior motion handling. I was a bit sceptic as well initially but it's a deadset winner for mine.

        • If your lounge room is tiny, less than 3m x 3m, 65" is… OK. Certainly not ideal though.

          • +1

@ItsMeAgro: That covers a lot of people. From rtings, 65" is the right size if you sit 2.77M away. If you have a bigger room, get a bigger TV, but for a 120" screen you really need a decent size dedicated room.

            • +1

@Aureus: Agree. I don’t understand all of these bigger is better comments. Your eyes can only comfortably see certain sizes at certain distances!

  • +2

I am using Hisense L9G and am really happy with it except their OS but I am running apple tv anyway. Do your research, I think Samsung one might be very alightly better than Hisense on HDR from memory.

    Receipt please.

i am also waiting for receipt

  • Is this statewide?

  • Can anybody with a laser projector who see rainbow effect with DLP projector say if they see the effect with these too?

    • Never mind, managed to see one of these in action today and there was some rainbow effect which is a deal breaker for me.

      I'll keep looking.

  • +5

I can't see why all the excitement. The RRP is ridiculously inflated to begin with and it's quite old. It was first announced in 2020. Since then, there are better performing projectors out there.

If you dropped 4K on this.. yikes.. At this spend level, for another $700 (even cheaper on sale), the Formovie Theatre beats this in every review they feature in. Better HDR, better brightness,
The only comparison that matters, The Hook Up:

    https://youtu.be/od1W43Oua4w

    • Yes I got the Formovie that replaced Lsp7t and it is way better projector, can be watched with lights on or curtins open.
      Much better contrast and brightness.

      • +1

One thing a lot of people don't understand is that the projector is only part of the equation. A lot of people think they can just throw the image at a wall and get good results. You need to spend $1,000 or more for a decent ALR screen, not just some white sheet off eBay.

  • -3

    TV > Projector
If you have that much money to fork out why would you get this over an OLED? Bigger screen isn't everything is it?

    • +3

Of course it is. Size matters.

      • Nah quality matters. 👌

        • This is not a $100 ebay toy "projector", nor even a $2000 quality Epson 4k lamp projector.

The image quality is much closer to an 130" OLED than a traditional projecter.

          • -1

@GandalfTheCheap: "Closer" is not OLED. OLED is much more superior. A projector will never compete with an OLED. Mind you the bigger the screen, the further you would need to be away from it to actually notice the resolution benefits. This is pretty much a niche useless item unless you own your own massive home threatre. People with a working brain will not buy one unless their setup is equipped to realise the full benefits of it.
Anyways, just my opinion. If your read up on viewing distance, it all makes sense. So no bigger is not better.

            • +4

@thousandsuns: Have you actually seen one because if you have and you have a working brain then you won't be saying that.

              • -4

@dins: Yes I have, you must be one of those people who think just because it's expensive it's the best. Yeah right.
Imagine trying to jam in a 100" screen just because your little ego thinks that having a massive screen in a small room is epic! I can show off. I said the use of a projector is subject to the viewing distance. 99% of family homes are not well equipped for projector use.

                • +2

@thousandsuns: Highly doubt it. Nah nothing to do with being more expensive. I only have a basic sort of UST setup (ie single laser) and I also have an OLED to compare (both cost around the same all up). So you're just talking nonsense.

                  • @dins: Well go on. If you are going to argue your point you should have something solid to say to justify your opinion rather than just say it is better. How on earth do they even cost the same? The one in this post apparently retails $10k. To put it in context you could get a 77-83 OLED at nearly half the price. Speak about nonsense :/

                    • +1

@thousandsuns: Both cost around $3.5k all up (ie including the 120" screen). This is a triple laser the one I have is just a single laser and it was under $2k.

          • @GandalfTheCheap: I am all for projectors and argue their case for people all the time instead of TVs. Immersion VS image quality.

But your false statement that the image quality is much closer to a 130" OLED is garbage. For starters, the such a sized OLED doesn't exist largest OLED TV is from LG at 97". Making statements like that gives you zero credibility and doesn't really help the cause of selling the idea of projectors.

A projector will never, ever match the inky blacks, high contrast or incredible sharpeness an OLED will provide. But it's not about those qualities. It's as I said before, about immersion.

You're getting that cinema like experience. Widescreen letterboxing is less intrusive, the delivery is more natural and motion is less jarring.

The benefits of an OLED of course including being able to use it in broad daylight without much detriment.

In an ideal world, you'd have both an OLED and a quality projector!

            • -1

@NoApostrophePlurals: Thank you! Finally, someone witn a working brain has spoken up!
OLED technology is up there at it's prime and being able to control every single LED to get not only the darker blacks but also a wider colour variance makes it the best. In no planet does an OLED ever compete with a projector, whether it be 4K or 8K. One technology produces it's own light and has full control whilst the other just projects linear light onto a blank surface. The 2 technologies are not even comparable.

              • +2

@thousandsuns: What is "linear light"? How does a projector not have control of what its doing and what it is designed to do, just like a OLED?

A projector does compete with an OLED or any TV when the competition is about image size. There is no OLED or TV choice to compete with if someone's priority is 120 or 130 or 150 inches of screen.

Why must you force your opinion on others preferences as if its fact and try to make the people that want a bigger image and are willing to compromise on what YOU believe is more important, wrong for their choice?

                • -1

@skysurfer: They are 2 totally different technologies. To the average joe, a TV works better majority of the time. My opinion isn't a fact but the demand and practical use for TVs are higher than projectors. If you have a preference to buy one then go ahead and buy it but don't push your argument by simply stating that projectors are simply better when they are in fact not in comparison to an OLED (for common households).

Most common household don't have space or an adequate viewing distance for 100"+ inch screens. So again, the customers for projectors are very limited because people are not dumb enough to fork out that much money for something that is not as practical as a TV for the common household. No wonder nobody buys these often. They are also very overpriced.

        • +3

I haven't seen a triple laser in action but I do have the Hisense PL1H (single laser) projecting onto a 120" XY screen and even with that basic sort of setup I can assure you the PQ is not bad at all after a bit of tinkering. Plus the motion handling is exceptional I can honestly say it's worth every cent and then some.

          • @dins: Please can you post photos of a side by side comparison of your OLED TV and projector showing the same dark scene?

            • @tighty: So I guess you only watch dark scenes and nothing else?

  • any one got this? does it work with google home to turn on / off? seems like only works with bixby

  • +1

Great price for this unit. I got mine in April 2021 and its been running like a dream. Paired it with a ALR/CLR screen and the image is unbelievable. The menu is quite laggy so i recommened adding a NVIDIA shield pro. Otherwise its basically a giant tv. Sports, streaming, gaming, handles superb. You simply cant compare the huge image with a tv.

  • Last month I went to Harvey Norman asked for any deal of Hisense L9G , they said Hisense L9G has been no stock already as Hisense L9H the new model is coming out now.

They offered me $5500 for this Samsung The Premiere Triple Laser 4K Smart Projector LSP9T with the 100" ALR screen. But we did not go with this deal as this is an old model from 2021, Samsung should have new model coming out shortly. (We like Hisense output colour more than this Samsung.)

If you would like to get this laser projector , you may also need to consider to spend around $1800-$2000 for the 100" ALR screen. Ask HN if they can give you the deal with a screen .

    • +2

As I've posted on another thread if anyone is after decent quality ALR screens at competitive prices highly recommend checking out Nothing Projector.

I purchased their 120" XY Screen PET Crystal not too long ago for $1549 delivered. I couldn't find it cheaper anywhere else and for mine worth it if you don't have a dedicated theatre room.

Nothing Projector also have their own screens. There are 120" screens starting from around $1k.

Their customer service is also top notch and very prompt. Not exactly sure why their deals get negged here but definitely recommend them if you're after a UST screen/projector.

  • How much was the lower end model LSP7T do you know? It must be significantly less than the website price of $3495 if theyre selling the LSP9T for $3995?

    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-the-premiere-laser-4…

  • But on HN's website its still being listed a6 $6995, is it a store specific deal?
    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-the-premiere-triple-…

  • Has anyone been able to buy this at this price from any other HN store ?

  • Looks like it is store specific and probably they had few pieces which they can't sell.

  • +1

Thank you so much for posting this! I was initially confused because this was a much cheaper than the price listed even on the HN website for the EOFY sales. But I called up specifically HN Marion and the person on the other end of the phone was laughing about how people all over Australia had been calling up about it. The price was too low even for JB Hi-Fi to price match! I scored one of the last units from HN and I couldn't be happier with it! Looks amazing even without a projector screen (which I will probably get eventually).
