What Do You Do if You Run out of Coffee Beans Just before You Are Due to Get More Delivered?

As the title, I will run out of coffee beans tomorrow and delivery of 2 kg is due to arrive on Wednesday. First time this has happened to me so I'm interested how others fill the gap.

Could be Soprano. Just expect, ashy, oily darker beans instead of the advertised mediums, as many of us found on a recent deal they did here. Horrible at first but actually came good after 4 weeks.

      • What?? So you have to wait for 4 weeks then the beans come good? Yes it was sopranos but I then checked and there is no specials

Used to buy freshly roasted then saw lots of comments aldi beans. Tried them and have been using them ever since.

Head down to Aldi and buy their Brazil single origin. Then you'll stop ordering online and just buy that in future as it's quite good :)

Coles have 200g coffee bean options which is what I usually buy when faced with this dilemma!

  • I get caught in the same Dilema with Protein Powder sometimes.

  • Commit gran larceny..
Extreme but not at all effective

    • +2

Lol Grand obviously but gran larceny is even better

  • I’m fortunate in that my local independent grocery store has bags of beans from local roasters. That’s usually my go to for an in between bag between online orders.

There are multiple ways to handle this. I'm going to assume you like milk based coffee drinks.

    1. Emergency caffeine tablets if you don't necessarily feel like a coffee but want the effect and to avoid a headache. If you already have a headache take 2 nurofen with them. Your headache will be gone in an hour.

    2. Coles brand instant coffee. Don't laugh. It's cheap as chips and has a chocolatey taste to it. Heat 300ml of milk in a pan (constantly stirring). When it's at a drinkable temperature pour a little bit into your coffee mug and mix with 2 heaped teaspoons of instant coffee. Pour the rest of the warm milk into a coffee plunger and plunge repeatedly until the milk is frothy (or use a hand coffee frother like this one). Place a tea strainer over your coffee mug and pour this frothed milk into the cup. This last step will turn the frothy milk into micro-foam. If it's summer you can just skip heating the milk and make an iced cap/latte. My personal recommendation is coles brand lactose free milk due to the sweetness it adds. It will taste like a Dare but better.

    3. Vac seal a small portion of whole beans in the freezer for emergencies. Just be sure to do this for a few batches to figure out the grind because it will be different to non frozen beans due to the physics of it all.

    4. Let a friend know that if they run out of coffee to let you know and you will hook them up. If they are a decent person they will reciprocate.

    5. Treat yourself to a coffee at your favourite cafe.

Struggling to understand why this is worth a post, or the time to read. First world yuppy problem.

  • This is exactly what is happening to me right now. They finally dispatched today, I ran out a week ago.
I started by using up the leftover decaf, then bought a couple of coffees from my local, and then when I realised I needed to last a bit longer I went to a good grocer for 200g of quality beans to tide me over.

I was also caught by Inglewood's eofy sale taking far too fricking long (11 days and counting)… grabbed a few hundred grams of the freshest stuff woolies had when I ran out, surprisingly roasted a mere two weeks ago ..

    Aldi beans. 200g

  • Well I have 6 espressos every morning. So I assume that if I ran out of beans, I just wouldn't get out of bed until the beans got delivered. Pretty simple.

    • Well I have 6 espressos every morning

      What…

  • My backup plan is always Coles! The Coles near me stock DC (Ducale) beans on the shelf, duchess and darkness are always there waiting for me…

  • I don't drink coffee, so nothing?

  • A tin of International Roast will get you by.

  • If you are doing that well in life that your coffee beans get delivered to you, unlike us common folk who either don't drink the stuff or go to Aldi for the beans, then you can afford to splash out for a takeaway.

  • why is coffee so important? crazy how many people are reliant on this stuff

    • +2

If you aren't drinking 5 cups a day are you really living?

      • so you spend more on coffee than public transport?

          Are you 90 years old?

          • @[Deactivated]: 32

            why is that relevant?

            • @ChatCPT: Your previous comment reminded me of my 89 year old neighbour who chastises me whenever he sees me arrive home with a café coffee in hand & says I waste too much money that should be spent on essential stuff

  • +1

hey we are all really worried that your beans haven't been delivered - did they show up ??

    • +3

You will be pleased to know that they did arrive and I pulled through with sheer grit and determination by buying coffees from the cafe down the road. Am yet to hear when my parade and medal presentation is though.

Please cancel any emergency air drops of coffee organised.

  • I have my old pod machine in the cupboard and a few spare pods in case of 'emergency'.

I DO NOT post it on Ozbargain. I feel I am clever enough to sort this myself.

Aldi Alcafe Classic Gold instant for the win!!!

    Buy more or wait. Wtf.
    God damn.

  • +1

What's wrong with instant coffee? Your palette is not that precious.

  • I don't buy coffee online. My cafe does Sunset Blvd blend for $45 when it's $60 through Inglewood.

Local, fresh and they're open 7 days a week.
    Made buying beans online obsolete.

However… People are RAVING about the new Coles beans in a medium roast. I've yet to try them but as they're new, they'll be fresh. This will only work for the next 2 weeks max.
