What Do You Do if You Run out of Coffee Beans Just before You Are Due to Get More Delivered?

As the title, I will run out of coffee beans tomorrow and delivery of 2 kg is due to arrive on Wednesday. First time this has happened to me so I'm interested how others fill the gap.

Treat yourself to a cafe brew or 10. Go on mate you deserve it. It’s also good for the economy ✨

Stop getting coffees, so the RBA stops raising interest rates!

I thought it was avo on toast??

        This is getting so confusing.

        • +25

Shit I've been mixing avocado with my coffee.

@Clear: There's nothing wrong with a strong bold Coffocardo!

            • +4

@Loopholio: I love this thread. I prefer a mochacardo myself. Avo + cocoa = yum.

            • @Loopholio: That's great, I'm absolutely ordering a caffocardo next time instead of my usual machiatchinnialatte..

              • @iDroid: Yeah! A huge percentage of the Italian population (about half, really), loved a good "caffocardo" at least once in their life.
I wholeheartedly advise all on their next trip to Italy to go to any bar and ask the barista for a good caffocardo

          • @Clear: You're meant to drink the coffee out of the avocado

        • Instructions unclear: Currently dipping my toast in my coffee

          • @cille745: Hope you drizzled sweetened condensed milk over your toast.

Stop buying things!!!! Its ruining the economy.

Don't forget to post up asking if you should be buried or cremated

True that, this Inglewood delivery is taking longer than I thought and had some unexpected guests on the weekend… anyway lesson learnt!

      • From previous experience Inglewood during their sales takes time because I think it tends to get done end of sale

        • Or does the OP live in Inglewood?

  • I think I saw a youtube video recently where a guy asked each coffee shop for a few beans each (for free). Then with all the free beans they asked a final coffee shop to grind it/make the coffee for free.

    • +4

Then charged him $2 for the cup, $2 for hot water and a $2 for the milk.

      • +2

I would charge him an extra $2 for wasting my time

        • +1

And $1,000 to clean the machines.

    • +8

      That sounds riveting

      • Video is here incase you want to see the riveting conclusion: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ypZbIuy1SUM

FWIW the other hack I saw was just to create a free starbucks account and put your birthday as the day OP needs that extra coffee. No idea if it works though (or if it works in Aus).

Also I really should've added one more point, which was in some pubs that have pokies, expensive car shops and some free places (like libraries) they sometimes have free coffee too.

What Do You Do if You Run out of Coffee Beans Just before You Are Due to Get More Delivered?

First thing YOU would do is hit the forums on Ozbargain.
But there are other options, while waiting to read the poll, like getting a life?
sue the coffee deliverers for destroying your fragile life?
hit social media and Karen your broken heart out to the bestest ever 'influencer' money can buy?

Or do what real people do. Drink double pot strength tea, at 99C, and quit coffee.

Or (sitting down?) take your own advice>

@admira: I know, right! It's weird & weirder still that it's usually not the OP that gets their nose out of joint.

      • +5

Yeah, just yesterday I had someone go nuts when he started bashing a new poster for starting a Deals post with "go easy on me, first post" and I pointed out that the guy doing the bashing posted exactly the same "go easy on me" on his own first post ten years ago.

He seemed to think that it was akin to internet stalking, when all it takes is 2-3 mouse clicks and five seconds of time to check up on.

Some people can't stand the sight of a mirror.

        • +1

          Yeah, this idiot

Interesting he wrote he got "his cut" from the post. Goes to show he was sockpuppeting or similar

Even the best of us fail to keep track of our freezer inventory from time to time. I let things go too far once myself, and then before I knew it, I was down at my local Woolworths frowning at the offerings on the shelf. It's a terrible, terrible situation to find yourself in.

      • -1

The best of perhaps might post 'freezer' as a choice with such a frivolous poll.

"It's a terrible, terrible situation to find yourself in"

No words, without earning a life ban

        • +1

Or…you could just ignore the whole thread ;-p

          • @Banj0: Too late.
The thread earned attention by way of. Well,……….. it speaks for itself

      • Go to your local cafe and buy beans there

    • :) thanks for the constructive advice. I usually do buy and freeze but thought I’d timed my order right, but it’s taking a bit longer than usual to arrive and had some people pop in so went through a bit more than I expected.

Anyway appreciate the time you took to tell me to get a life and then go through my comment history :)

      • -8

        That's what friends are for.
        Keep smiling…. etc

You could probably have resolved your life ending conundrum quicker by actually resolving it, as opposed to making a look at me post too, but where's the fun in that?

        Happy days

BTW. Your back-up frozen stash must either be tiny or non -existent to result in depletion, if a 'few' visitors sucked it dry in one sitting.
Now you see the pitfalls of peer impressing via coffee machines.
Have a strong cup of tea on me.It will put hair on your chest and bones in your back.

Drink International Roast as punishment for being so unorganised.

You’ll make sure you never run out again.

  • +1

If it’s a day or two I’ll live without it. Close to a week or I’ve misjudged the order I’ll get a 500g bag from Aldi

  • +3

You have my sympathy…I suffered a similar tragedy a few months back. I had to go to Woolworths and shudder…buy some beans off the shelf. It's something you hope you'll never have to go through, but I guess, this is life.

Actually, in the end…they really were pretty nice beans.

    • Oooh what beans did you get?

      • +1

        https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/129713/sac…

Was even dated roasted only a couple of weeks before I bought it. I dunno if I trust that really, because it is just another Campo's roast, and I saw their coffee apparently post-dated a couple of years back (yes, in mid Jan 2021 I picked a bag of Campo's off the shelf that was marked RD: 02/02/21).

I actually liked it though, so I guess nothing else matters.

        • +2

I mean at least they have a roast date. Most of them are just have a label that says

What was with supermarkets back in the 90s with coffee grinders in the aisle? What was with that?

    • +1

      Hey I remember seeing those!

    • +1

Our local IGA still has it!

    • +1

Might be trying to market the coffee aisle like a coffee shop, float the smell of freshly ground beans around to entice shoppers over.

      • there once was a time when pretentious coffee snobs had not yet bought grinders and expresso machines for the home.

they would grind in store and use French Press coffee maker at home.

        • There's no such thing as an "expresso machine"

I would just drink instant coffee if I can't have espresso. But I have a freezer full of beans from all these sales.

  • +4

    Murder those around you?

I use a manual ordering method from coffee snobs, when I put the last of my bean in the hopper I order more beans. This is typically enough time for the new beans to come in. During COVID I think I came close to not getting coffee one day due to delays, but otherwise, it's all good.

If I really had to get supermarket beans I might do that, but in a controversial opinion… 7-Eleven coffee is cheap, fresh ground and with their beans aren't too bad in the scheme of things especially given how quickly they turn over.

  • +3

    Buy a kilo from Aldi/Coles/Woolies

Good lord no, do not do this.

I thought I'd give woolies beans a go when I got my espresso machine and they were absolutely horrible. I then thought I'd give the campos beans a go from woolies because hey, campos is good. Nope they were crappy too. I realised why when I looked at the date they were roasted. 5 months ago.

    Never buy beans from colesworth.

    • It's been a long time now, but Coles brand preground coffee was pretty good.

    • +2

Good lord no, do not do this

My local Aldis often have beans roasted within the last 2-3 weeks. They've been my go to for about a year now after previously using P&R or manna. No regrets.

  • Have my coffee at work.

    • works (????) from home

  • +3

Just have a jar of Moccona in the cupboard like a normal person. You won't die having it.

    • Wouldn't it go stale after a few months?

      • -1

It's ok it'll probably taste better

Good coffee is so easily accessible and life is too short for instant coffee

    • +1

Some people have a meltdown when I mention drinking instant coffee and they try their best to teach me that it's actually the devil. I've learned my lesson and never bring it up it anymore because these people get really annoying trying to convert me every time I see them (trying to teach me their ways, insist on explaining in very fine detail how their methods create a superior coffee drinking experience, and at every chance they get they try to publicly "shame" you for drinking instant) while I try my hardest to politely let them know I don't care and get from their droning.

The best thing about wfh is literally how much mental energy I save from fewer encounters with such people. That and I just tell them I'm a tea drinker now and they go away on their own.

      • +1

I tell people if they like instant then keep drinking it. Will save you a lot of money in the long run lol

  • +2

Go to Aldi, look for the most recent roast date on either the medium dark blend or their Brazil single origin and enjoy !

  • +1

Colesworth often have lavazza connoisseur strength 9 coffee beans on sale for $20 a kilo. This is a true bargain, as it is actually good coffee, with long expiry dates (suggesting it was roasted in the last month or so). I mostly roast my own, but fall back on these or mix them 50/50 with mine when I run short, as roasting is time consuming.

  • +2

Drink Malk. Now with vitamin R.

  • "First World Problem"

Buy a tin of moccona barista reserve, better than beans anyway

    • You need to get your sense of taste tested

    • Is there a typo in there somewhere?

  • +2

I just use instant until I get some more..

  • +1

I'm at that stage this week where I can see I might run out. However I'm moving to rationing instead, making slightly smaller shots with less coffee to drag it out.

However today is a day where the house is freezing, I didn't sleep well and I want another coffee. Can't decide whether to risk it or not.

    • How do you make slightly smaller shots without throwing off the entire espresso quality?

Or do you not care as long as, caffeine hit.

Anyway, I recommend having some korean/jp instant 'pourover' bags as backup. It's a good change and in some cases makes you want more pourovers.

  • +1

Are you in Sydney? I was thinking I might drive up to Manly Vale I recall there was someone there who roast and sells for like $25 per kg. Now I am kicking myself why I didn't write it down as I can't find the damn place.
