KegLand have a sale on some of their plastic Fermzilla fermenters. Their gear is rarely on sale. 55L tri-conical has the biggest saving:

55L tri-conical $169.95 (save $75) https://www.kegland.com.au/products/55l-fermzilla-tri-conica…

27L tri-conical $139.95 (save $25.05) https://www.kegland.com.au/products/fermzilla-27l-tri-conica…

60L all rounder $79.95 (save $10) https://www.kegland.com.au/products/fermzilla-60l-all-rounde…

Highly recommend the pressure kits for oxygen-free transfers, I'm very happy with my 30L all rounder. Cheers 🍻

How do you find the cleaning? I find stainless is just so easy.

    • Super easy. Just need to be careful about the water temp (too hot and it melts, I think the limit is 50°C). Bit of PBW + a sponge and it comes good in no time. Light as a feather, so I move it into the laundry sink to fill + rinse out.

autoplaying videos blasting at full volume on every goddamn product page on that site

  • I've been brewing in just the regular plastic Coopers kit FV for the last 18 months. Have been curious about pressure fermenting but after reading, it seems the benefits are more nuanced. Anyone able to enlighten me further? I use a kegerator fwiw

Personally I don't bother with pressure fermenting, but the idea is that pressure allows some yeast strains to ferment at higher temperatures without imparting off-flavours that would be produced at that temperature at regular atmospheric pressure. Higher temperature = quicker fermentation (there are limits).

IMO the biggest benefit of the fermzilla is oxygen free transferring. The beer is never exposed to oxygen. As it ferments the yeast consumes the oxygen, produces CO2 and the oxygen in the fermzilla is used up/pushed out by the CO2. Once fermentation is complete, you use purged ball lock connections to connect the fermzilla directly to your keg. Purge your keg, apply CO2 to fermzilla and let it rip. Your beer gets from fermentation container to keg with 0 oxygen ingress. The Coopers fv relies on gas density and 0 disturbance of the CO2 layer as a protection blanket between beer and oxygen. No oxygen = no oxidation tang that's rife in home brewing, beer lasts longer, happy days.

Here's the pressure kit all rounder, I haven't done the math to figure out if all rounder + parts is cheaper than the kit as a whole.

I don't think the benefits are worth it for pressure fermenting as a home brewer. And these cheap pressure fermentors are more trouble then they are worth. Every day there's posts about problems with these on their FB page. I use a SS fermentor now which has a gas post in the top and allows for close transfer, but I used Coopers fermentors for a long time to great success. There other more important things to improve which will give you a better result.

Most complaints I see are about the tri-conical. The all rounder is pretty damn fool proof and is my recommendation if you don't need to collect yeast or dump trub.

The problem most of the time is down to people not lubing seals and overtightening to the point that they can't undo them again - user error and not a fault of the product.

  • Fermzilla? Do they name their products by asking passing 5 year olds?

    • Yes.

      Next question?

      • ….Why?

        • were gonna call it google but thought what a timelessly idiot thing to name a product so went with the kid’s idea instead

          • @0jay: Should have called it the Queen fermenter. Because it's under pressure…

            • @justchase: Alright but we’re gonna pitch to the wider market who are for the most part male… Bowie fits under pressure and the ladies love him too

Really need to acknowldge that you been sitting on that joke a couple days now tho, well done

              • @0jay: Hand on heart, just thought of it then.
