if $350 and under then bargain.

  • Hmm still waiting for 5950x

Well that's the thing, any application where you will fully load up 12cores you will most likely fully load up 16cores, so the 16core CPU is the one everyone wants and least likely to get a good deal on

    5900x or 5800x3d hmmm

      For gaming or production?

I would go if cores are needed for production, the 5900X

If you want straight up gaming as the priority then the 5800X3D

      • "Porque no los dos?"

          5900x + 5800x3d = 11700xx3d

      • Funnily enough the 7950x3d is really good for analysis workloads.

I hate things which are named after gaming, makes it a bit more suss for claiming back (though never had an issue).

    • or 7700/7700x if this is a new system, similar productivity, better gaming, more energy efficient and easier to cool. If you already have 5900x compatible m/b and RAM, choose between 5900x for productivity or 5800x3d for gaming. I will pick 5900x if it related to your income or job for upgrade, new system just get 7700/7700x for both productivity and gaming.

    • 5800X3D for gaming, Intel for productivity.

2 years of downloading linux distros. Especially during lockdowns. Priceless!

    • almost cost a dollar a day.

    • Bought it around the 590 mark last year, still feels bad

    • I did as well, and don't regret it.. 2+ years of usage and it's been awesome.
Loaded it up with 64gb of ram and it'll give me another 2 years no sweat.

    • Yup, same here, didn't get scalped for a gpu throughout the great shortage but paid over rrpa for the 5900x from umart :)

Not a good CPU nowadays, there are better options for every workloads. At this price, its still going up against the 13600K, which is faster for both single and multi-core productivity. For gaming its not really better than the base 5600 or 5700X, and for a bit more you can get a 5800X3D to upgrade an existing AM4 system, or if you're buying new get a 7600. Unlike the 5800X3D, its actually a demanding CPU to run and you need a board with pretty decent VRM, so its not an easy drop-in upgrade and negate most of the pricing advantage AM4 has over LGA1700.
