Yeah I go for the ones that are a mix of lots of ingredients that I'm unlikely to buy in bulk.
No denying that it's cheaper to forego the convenience tax and mix your own though, especially if it's mostly salt.
I have always made my own rubs; they literally give you the ingredients you need on all of their products' I.e Magic Dust has a cult following from a lot of BBQers, https://www.lanesbbq.com.au/collections/lanes-bbq-rubs/produ… scroll down a tiny bit; Ingredients: White Sugar, Brown Sugar, Salt, Pepper, Garlic, Chili Powder, Paprika, Smoked Paprika, Oregano, Ground Mustard, Cayenne
Trial and error, make a batch and taste what you need to add. If you make it in decent sizes and it gets moisture and is a bit clunky between usage (so you can't shake it out of the bottle), grind it on a fine-medium setting in a coffee grinder- then put back in the bottle or shaker.

Bought it before like 5pitmastersize, very expensive, but it’s also very good, I’ve done my self few time my own rubs, however don’t taste the same, my fav is brancho on the rumpcup
