Hi,

First time posting the deal here, apologies if it isn't the best bargain phone deal out there but might be helpful for someone who is looking at Telstra Network.
I was looking for a good phone plan deal, unfortunately the JB Hi-Fi 12 months $69 plan for $500 seems like become history now.

I saw The Good Guys Telstra plan but seems like no one has posted yet.
It might not be the best there out there but seems a better deal compared to JB Hi-Fi plan.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Series - $1100 off - $69/M for 24 Months
iPhone 14 Plus Series - $1000 off - $69/M for 24 Months

I was after Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, the current price on The Good Guys is $1645. (Bonus Galaxy Watch 5 44mm LTE via redemption)
So upfront cost will be $545, $45 higher than the Harvey Norman Optus deal.
If you can find better prices, I think they might allow you to price beat to reduce the cost.

Other Sim plan only (but not really a bargain)
$700 eGift Card - $69/M for 24 Months
$1200 eGift Card - $99/M for 24 Months - Looks like they have removed it

  • I can't find any info about the ETC but the TCs from the $1100 promo does state:

'If you cancel or move to a lower cost plan then you'll need to pay a Voucher Repayment Fee pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan's minimum term.'

So if you cancel immediately, your pro-rated VRF would be:
    $1100 * (23/24) = $1054

On a positive note I think you can keep the Watch5 as this is a promo directly from Samsung….

    • But the minimum voucher repayment fee is $431.25 according to the CIS though

      • Exactly. So what's the total to own this f….ing S23 ultra and get rid of the plan ?

        • You've posted a couple times now, it's clear there is a discrepancy in information provided by The Good Guys. Maybe you can turn your energy of frustration into action and talk to the good guys folks to get the answer and share with us. Be the hero we need @MarioBros.

          • +2

@2-1: I did. But they said 1400 coupon and if plan cancelled need to pay 1400 as "fees". But that was with the Phone plan. This is a Sim plan. It's different. I will be your hero tomorrow. I'll go at the store even if is a bit far from me… I'll do once and for all ! I wanna see clear. ;)

            • +2

@MarioBros: I bought and cancelled already today. Cancel fee with Telstra live chat was $431.25. Scroll up to my prior comment.

              • @Kuro: So basically I'll just rock in ….get the phone and the plan, then go home and cancel from the Telstra itself and I'll pay the cancellation based on their invoice that they will send me (431.25) is that it ? Lol

                • @MarioBros: Bascally, my Telstra app has the $431.25 owing in the payments tab. To be autopay on the 10/07/2023 or pay now.

                  • @Kuro: I get that but I'm literally speaking to someone at Telstra and they all say if cancelled I need to pay the remaining months of the plan. Which will be a pretty high amount. I just don't understand. Nobody knows nothing. These people i feel knows less then us….isn't it? I'll just risk it? Lol

                    • @MarioBros: Up to you. The CIS states the max voucher fee is $431.25 on a $69 plan. No mentions of any other eary termination fees in CIS and T&C's. My contract says $450 voucher was applied. Thats what gets sent to Telstra. So they work it off that. Their systems dont talk to each other, so they'll act on what was sent to them by JB. Good luck.

                      • @Kuro: I understand your point. I do. But….. Into the 24 month plan is clearly written "minimum cost $1656. So what about that ?

                        • @MarioBros: That minimum cost is what the telcos legally have to include so you know what the 24 month contract will cost you. Not if you end it earlier :)

                      • @Kuro: I did it !!! It's true !!! That is all correct!! The guy knew it and I did it. Confirmed only 431.25 to get off the plan !!! ;)

                        • @MarioBros: Nice! Which guy knew? Good guys? haha!

                          • @Kuro: Hahahah yeah the "GUY" at the "GOOD GUYS"…. ;)

                          • @Kuro: Did the Telstra's agent say you may be required to pay an Early Termination Charge (ETC) if you decide to cancel the plan before the Min. term?

Looks like the VRCF is only 431.25, but ETC will be 828, which is half of the minimum cost.

                            See the section 5.20:
Disconnect - ETCs and Voucher Reimbursement Cancellation Fees (VRCF) apply.

                          • @GlobalCitizen: Naa bro. I got a confirmation with the guy at the store saying all I had to pay was that "voucher" to Telstra if I wanted to terminate. So just 431. 25. He seemed to know what he was talking about…so…
                            I feel safe ! I got the contract as well ! ;)

                            • @MarioBros: Lol, that's a pretty good deal. Cheers bro

Did you get the bill from Telstra? I was planned to get this plan today. Bc I asked Telstra agent this morning, and he said I need to pay a huge amount of ETC as this is a 24 months contract plan. I double checked the terms as I mentioned above, the section 5.20 did say there is a ETC will be charged. I am confused.

@GlobalCitizen: The first month bill only for now because I didn't cease the plan yet. But I'm pretty sure about what the guy told me and showed me. I'm pretty confident it will only be a 431.25 dollar bill. Huge deal !!! Trust me !

                                • @MarioBros: Cheers mate! Gonna give it a shot tmr. Hope "the guy" I talk with knows it as well xD

                                  • @GlobalCitizen: Yeah but at the end of the day he "doesn't have to know". Get the phone and the plan and don't worry about it. Telstra will do the rest when you terminate. So don't expect everyone at the Good Guys to know. I've been lucky ;) cheers bro.

                                    • @MarioBros: Yeah, I talked with 3 Telstra agents these days, and they did freak me out. Wait, could you please help me to chat with them and show them the plan you have right now. Lets see what Telstra agent will say. Bc they kept asking me to show them the plan I have when I inquired about the ETC, they only can answer the question when they see the plan, Jesus.

                                      • @GlobalCitizen: Yeah I'm about to get in touch with them to ask for the termination fees. ;)

                                        • @MarioBros: Let's see. Please let me know if you get the reply. Cheers bro

                                          • @GlobalCitizen: Sure sure 😊

                                          • @GlobalCitizen: here i am and guess what???? i just got confirmation from a Telstra agent that to disconnect my plan will cost me … … … …..431.25 !!!!! yes you reading it correctly!!! 431.25 !!! JUST CONFIRMED !!! :)

                                            • @MarioBros: Nice! Which one did you get anyway? S23 or the iPhone 14 Plus?

                                              • @AirJordan23: S23 Ultra 256gb. I think it is the worthy choice as i also applied for the free Galaxy Watch 5. ;)

                                            • @MarioBros: WoooooooooooooooooooooooooooW!!!! Thanks bro!

                                            • @MarioBros: So if I am reading this right..

Sign up for plan, get the $1100 voucher, get the S23, free watch via redemption

Then you can cancel the plan straight away and you only pay $431.25 as your exit fee? No need to repay good guys or anyone for the $1100 voucher??

So total cost of the S23+watch will be [price of phone]+431.25-1100??

                                              Please confirm! :)

                                              • @evasive: Yes correct. Plus 69$ first month plan.

                                                • @MarioBros: Good work @MarioBros.
Did you cancel via Telstra chat, and is that it?

                                              • @evasive: Yeah, I think that is the right understanding of what is going to happen once you cancel right away.

                                                $431 + $69 (first month upfront fee)

                          • @GlobalCitizen: Is everyone 99.9% sure this is untrue? We won't get billed an insane amount down the track? I really want to make sure before I go in tomorrow and lock myself into a plan hahaha

Edit: thx for the Telstra doc, you may be right. Hmm. Maybe as long as the Telstra agent doesn't notice and their system doesn't auto-generate the ETC invoice, it'll be ok?
                            Section 5.24

This will be in addition to the Early Termination Charge above, as well
as any accessory payments that may apply.

Also 5.27, although this may be delineating TGG vs Telstra's role in the contract

As this voucher is provided in partnership with JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys, the ETC for
the voucher will appear on your Telstra bill

I'd love to know for sure

                              • @GlobalCitizen: lmao ozbargainers get into the nitty gritty don't they, we've looked closer than Telstra has 😂
Btw they made this mistake until late 2020/early 2021 with the JB contracts - I got an S20 FE 5G + Buds Live for $650 in October 2020 through a similar process.
Fingers crossed for everyone. As for me, I'm not so sure about this. +$828 is a deal-breaker.

                                • @Techie4066: Ahh, it's not only +$828. Based on the terms, the money out of pocket should be

Original "Price of the phone" without any bonus + $828 + $69

if you cancelled the plan in the first month. Technically, Telstra won't lose anything. But….yeah, I am still confused xDDD.

@Techie4066: Bro I got email with the chat of the Telstra representative. How many confirmations do you need ? If they give me trouble I can use that email as proof. It is 431.25 to cancel the plan. Full stop

Has anyone successfully signed up for the iPhone plus plan and priced matched?

I wonder if JB would match the deal as they’re owned by the same company? As JBs price for iPhone plus is lower.

    • +1

I did price match with Bing Lee for Samsung phone. I guess they have no problem price match with JB.

      • Price match for 1627?

    • Did you try price matching?

      • +1

Went to sign up for the plan at TGG but their Telstra guy called in sick. Went to JB to see if they could match the deal and they couldn’t. Will try TGG again tomorrow. Anyone else have luck matching iPhone prices ?

    • Wouldn’t price match Bing Lee or Amazon for me on the Samsungs :/

Guess it depends on the store

  • +4

I think the Telstra deal at JB hifi was better. Not sure if its still running. Here is my run down:

    • S23 Ultra 512GB $1789 (Price beat with Samsung government store which had for $1799)
    • Watch (Free)
    • $1400 Gift card towords phone (Only show's up as $800 at telstra though shhh)
    • $89 per month with Telstra 24 Months (break fee is only the gift card of $800 which is pro-rata and goes down each month)

Total cost out of pocket $389 + $89 first month fee.

    I will keep the contract however if you wanted to cancel right away $800 + $389 + $89 = S23 Ultra 512GB for $1,278.

    • Can you price match Samsung Government in JB?

      • i did!

    • Yeah not bad at all

    • This is not correct. ETC is 50% of the remaining 24 months payment. No pro rata return of the GC or phone discount.

  • Will TGG price match JB price for the iPhone 14 Plus?

  • For those that signed up with TGG, does your network name just show a dot (.) instead of Telstra.???

    • @MarioBros can you check this if you signed up? What’s the network name at the top of your phone??

      • telstra

        • Weird, I have the TGG branded SIM and it just shows as a “.” (Dot)

Going to go to a Telstra store to get them to move it to a new sim. Is the logo on your SIM TGG or Telstra branded?

  • There used to be a $10 discount per month with Telstra if you port two numbers. Is this still applicable?

    • No luck with the port in discount for me. Chat can’t do it anymore and these upfront plans are on a new system :/

  • Is 28 june inclusive? I can make it only tom and bit confused when it says it ends 28 june 🤔

    • Just bumping if someone can confirm

  • Hey guys,
So, hoping someone can help me out here, the voucher for the $69 plan for Samsung s23 is $700, how is it only max repayment fee only for $431 if you cancel on the first day?
Also, whilst you will need to pay back the value of the voucher, does that mean you can still use the $700 voucher for other things?
Lastly, why are you guys preferring the s23 ultra to the s23+ or the normal s23?
    Thanks!

    • The $700 eGift card is a separate promotional offer that doesn't come with a phone. The S23U is always more attractive to people and seems to be the best % discount. I have an S23+ and love it so don't pay more just for the sake of it.

Does the expiry date mean i can do it tomorrow still. or it will stop being a deal at midnight tonight?

  • Great ducked into store today, 1100 off the S23 Ultra 500gb, used phone trade in for $600 total cost $249 + 69 for the monthly charge.
Good deal, Fold 4 just wasnt for me, Camera quality was too low.

    • You’ve traded in your Fold 4 and only get $600 out of it?

      • I only paid 500 for it on a previous deal

        • It was th jb hi fi deal a few months ago, the flip 4 was $989 with a bonus $500 off + phone credit.
Ended up paying $500 odd for 512gb, honestly the fold isnt for me. The camera is lackluster, and it feels fragile.

Maybe i should have sold it online. Meh. Still made money on it.

          Would do it again

  • I paid $839 for the S23 Ultra 512Gb and the 1st month of the $69 plan. I can confirm the cancellation fee is $431.25 through telstra live chat. Plus a free watch

    Good deal!

    • Hold on, on cancelling the telco immediately, is it only $431.25 payable to telstra? there is no need to account for the $1,100 or even having to pay the first month fee of $69 i assume?

so i follow you properly, its really only $1,270.25 out of pocket for the entire transaction (cancelling/porting out immediately)? being:

      a) phone cost of $839 ($1,939 - $1,100); add
      b) cancellation fee $431.25

      TIA!

      • +1

Yeah something along those figures as per the CIS of $431 + $69 (1st month) then whatever storage you are to buy

      • +1

        Correct

        • this make the deal with TGG better than the other one from JB!

  • My calculations for the S23 256 GB

    1. TGG S23 256GB & watch @$69/m plan
      $1249 - $1100 +$69+$431.25=$649.25

    2. JB S23 256GB & watch @$69/m plan
      $1249 - $850 +$69+$431.25=$899.25

  • Am I reading this correctly?:
TGG $99 plan deal states a BONUS $1150 Off Samsung Galaxy Deal + BONUS $1100 eGift Card Deal. Are they really giving 2 gift cards with a Samsung phone? One to come off the cost of the phone and the other to spend in store at a later stage?

These are the Termination fees from the T&C that I could find:

    Plan $49 $69 $99
    Minimum Cost 24 month term N/A $1656 $2376
    Voucher For eligible customers N/A $450 $800
    Maximum Voucher Repay Fee N/A $431.25 $766.67

    • No. You pick one or the other. Not both
