What is Reward Gateway?

Reward Gateway is an employee program that gives you access to discounted eGift cards and cashback across a large range of retailers.

How do I access Reward Gateway?

The most common way to access the program is through your employer. Your employer needs to be subscribed to this program before you can apply to access the program. Once you are given access, you can log into Reward Gateway through:

  • The dedicated website for your company, or
  • The SmartSpending app on iOS/Android.

Alternatively, members of API Lifestyle can access Reward Gateway (where membership costs $10 a month).

What is the transaction fee?

Transaction fees will vary depending on the type of card used to complete the transaction. The feedback I have been given by their support team is as follows:

  • MasterCard or Visa debit card: 0%
  • Standard MasterCard or Visa credit card: 0%
  • Premium / Platinum MasterCard or Visa credit card: 0.5%
  • Standard AMEX card: 1.5%
  • Premium AMEX card: 3%

Can I use prepaid gift cards (e.g. Vanilla Visa gift cards, Coles Mastercard gift cards, OnlyONE Visa gift cards) as a payment method?

Probably not.

Reward Gateway requires all debit, credit and prepaid cards to support 3-D Secure. Prepaid gift cards do not support 3-D Secure, so they are likely to be blocked by the payment processor.

Why are you posting this as a deal when Ultimate gift cards featuring JB Hi-Fi are currently 10% off at Woolworths and TCN gift cards featuring BCF are currently 15% off at Coles?

It is because the Coles and Woolworths deals will not suit everyone, and people can work out which deal suits them best. For example:

  • The deals at Coles and Woolworths require you to visit a physical supermarket to pick up gift cards. Fingers crossed you live near a Coles or Woolworths and the stores actually have the gift cards you want in stock in the denominations you want.

  • The redemption of Ultimate gift cards are handled by JB Hi-Fi very differently to JB Hi-Fi gift cards, plus it is not straightforward to convert an Ultimate gift card into a JB Hi-Fi. If you are like this person who lives three hours from the nearest store with stock, it may not be ideal to try to purchase $2,000 worth of JB Hi-Fi gift cards through a JB Hi-Fi store or through the JB Hi-Fi website using multiple $30, $50 or $100 Ultimate gift cards across a number of days or weeks… With this deal, all you need to do to purchase $2,000 in JB Hi-Fi gift cards is to make one purchase through Reward Gateway.

  • BCF has a redemption limit of three BCF gift cards in one online transaction and 5 eftpos cards in one instore transaction. If you are like this person and live a long way from a BCF store or do not want to deal with the hassle of workarounds to turn multiple $50 or $100 TCN gift cards into a BCF gift card, this deal would be more straightforward.

Shame they don't have Amazon gift cards in their store

    • +4

No, but they did add eBay late last year with 4% off. Will be interesting to see if they feature in one of the Daily Deals.

      • oh you're right, didn't even notice that, thanks

    • I did see a 4% Amazon, but it was a one-off kind of thing around Xmas

Edit: apologies, might have been Member Advantage?

Ah…WookieMonster beat me to it by 11 minutes! Your corporate mail gateway must be just the little bit faster than ours. ;-)

    • +2

seems so. ozb post faster than internal corp mail!

Haha I actually only received an email about this offer three minutes after I posted it here.

I spotted on an email last week that Daily Deals were coming up, and when I checked the Reward Gateway website early this morning, it already started advertising these three gift cards.

  • Anyone know how much it actually costs the employer to join this?

  • Does the Coles mastercard work for this

    • Can I use prepaid gift cards (e.g.

YMMV. My sister has access to this through her workplace and the Coles Mastercards work without any additional fees but obviously it must not work for other people if Wookie has including this question in the FAQ.

    • In the past for me:

      • Physical Coles Mastercard gift cards failed the 3-D Secure check and were blocked.

      • Digital Coles Mastercard gift cards somehow bypassed the 3-D Secure check and could be used as a payment method.

I am not sure what the situation is right now, because InComm could be blocking Reward Gateway as a merchant, plus the 3-D Secure check could have been updated since I last tried.

It works on the Coles MasterCard last week for me.

Gift card discounts are an interesting way of gauging profit margins that different businesses and sectors target. Clothing brands always offer the biggest discount, no surprise, where as tech retailers often the least… also no surprise as the margins are pretty thin on tech.

    • Margins? I didn't know there was such a thing in the tech business. ;-)

      • Time to buy yourself a Monsteeer Cable or 3.

        • Ah, but that's not 'tech'…it's 'chicanery'. The margins are to remind us that a fool & his money are soon parted.

    • Does phones count as tech? As I'm under the impression margins on phones (iPhone, Samsung) are pretty healthy?

  • Any tips on what's coming for the rest of the week? Judging from last year's promos - only 2 interesting ones I found were Woolies 5% & Ticketek 15%. But with current Prezzee promo, I've never looked back to RewardGateway for any supermarket GCs.

I would expect to see other retailers as part of this round of Daily Deals over the next few days, including:

      • rebel
      • Supercheap Auto
      • The Good Guys
      • IKEA
      • Myer
      • Coles or Woolworths (although most likely Woolworths)
      • Another Woolworths Group or Endeavour Group retailer (e.g. BIG W, Dan Murphy’s)
      • Webjet
      • RedBalloon

This is not a confirmed list, it is just my best guess based on previous Daily Deals promotions. Who knows though, we could have eBay featured this week.

  • Not bad for Airbnb

    • $500 limit

      • Can you buy multiple $500 gift cards or is this a hard limit of $500? Wanting to see if it was worth joining Reward Gateway for a month to get a few Airbnb gift cards

        • +2

$500 for 30 days and the discount is today only

          • +1

@RichardF89: You can buy $500 first and you still can do two more additional transactions on the same day up to $300 each. So max daily amount is $1100 (500+300+300).

            • @Tppskk: thanks the 30 days limit is $5000 not $500 my bad

              • @RichardF89: Can anybody confirm what the amount is?

                • +2

@mrbombastic: You can choose to load any amount between $25 and $500 onto an Airbnb gift card.

You can only have 1x Airbnb gift card in your basket at any one time. That means for your first purchase of gift cards for the day, you can only purchase a maximum of $500. You cannot add more than 1x Airbnb gift card to your basket.

The second and third purchases for the same gift card are restricted to $300 each in a 24 hour period. That means if you want to purchase more Airbnb gift cards today, the second and third gift cards can only be loaded with amounts between $25 and $300 each.

Reward Gateway enforces across their platform a total spend limit of $5000 across all gift cards in a 30 day period.

                  • +2

@WookieMonster: The only other time when you suddenly have to show some love for your workmates haha, risky tho if you can't trust them.

                    • @nsingh21: If they are willing then you'd get them to pay first, send you redemption codes then pay them back!

                      • @Craze: yeah, generally with workmates its low risk as I'd expect to know them and that they'll not try anything cheeky. Since they're helping you, some might not be willing to pay first since they carry the risk if you don't pay up. Either way, I haven't had any bad instances as such.

If you have Coles MC cards lying around, they'll be perfect for one time disposable use.

                        • @nsingh21: Don't think RG portal accepts Coles Prepaid MC? The last time I tried they didn't work, as highlighted by WM also.

                          • @Craze: yeah I actually tried it a few months back when it worked multiple times over multiple cards but could be that its been updated since. I also hear the PayPal issue and noted that now I'm facing the same issue as well!

So I can't really trust the whole prepaid card thing anymore.

  • Does anyone know what kind of benefits RG's employees get? Just trying to understand a little more about the possible level of discounts with the right contacts…

    • Elaborate please. I may be able to assist

      • What discounts do RG's employees get? Is it any better than the best product line from RG to any of their customers?

  • Your employer needs to be subscribed to this program before you can apply to access the program.

    Oooof that's a killer! 😕
