You can get yearly free glucometers through the NDSS https://www.ndss.com.au/wp-content/uploads/changes-to-ndss/f…

    • Only if you have diabetes, right?

      • +2

Yes, but this deal also requires an NDSS number.

        • Entering NDSS number is optional, you can still receive without it.

          • @Nikunj: Ok. Given that it states "NDSS number required", and if that's not there they might have to pay for what they're sending you, let us know if they honour it or not.

          • +1

@Nikunj: I'm a diabetes educator and have T1 diabetes, so I've got more glucometers than I know what to do with.

  • Is there any option to have it without NDSS, trying to proactively monitor and manage my glucose levels?

    • +1

Change job: you can order without NDSS as a healthcare professional or if you operate a pharmacy.

1 only per individual. For personal use only. Not for resale. NDSS number required.
3/6/12 units: only for pharmacies and HCP

      • What counts as a healthcare professional for these purposes? I can't find any information on it.

        Edit: Nevermind, found it

The following health professionals are authorised to use the NDSS Health Professional Portal to certify NDSS forms:

        Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE)
        Endocrinologist / Diabetologist
        General Practitioner
        Nurse Practitioner
        Practice Nurse
        Physician
        Paediatrician
Other registered medical practitioner who specialises in diabetes.

    • Well the NDSS field looks optional. You can order without an NDSS number and see if they send you an invoice.

just buy it in Chemist Warehouse, you just would pay full price, you do not need prescription
      for example, $27.99 for monitor https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/100614/accu-chek-ins…, $21.49 for 50 strips https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/100613/accu-chek-ins…

    • This country (and almost all countries, TBF) aren't interested in prevention, because the money is in treatment (generally) and also in junk food (specifically with this issue)

      • +1

Actually a lot is done in prevention, problem is people ignore it, people still love booze and cake and don't like to exercise. Had high blood sugar, not technically diabetes, GP sent me to preventative classes, they picked up my high sugar level as they had free testing in the office building I was working in. See the GP every 6 mths now.

Not a bargain, almost every BGM brand has free meter option via NDSS

    Ascentia - https://diabetes.ascensia.com.au/request-free-meter/
    Accu-Check - https://www.accu-chek.com.au/access-free-meter

    etc

    • which one is best ?

      • The one you can actually get strips for…
Finding a brand you like with strips in stock can be a real pain.

      • They are more or less the same. Tried some Accu-Check and Contour One (accentia) - they show the same results in terms of accuracy, Contour's Android app sucks a bit less (subjective).
Main difference in the whole routine are lancets/clickpens. Depends on your skin, so subjective as well - I like Ascentia's much more than Accu Check.

  • This is not a deal unless strips are discounted. Most comes with 100% cashback on devices.

  • Anyone know which strips are cheapest? And is there a discount with ndss card? Have been using accuchek cassettes but can no longer get cheap
