Reminds me, my library has an energy efficiency kit you can borrow. Has an infrared detector to find drafts inc. door/window/degraded fridge seals etc. Also has a similar power plug that monitors how much electricity a device is actually using at a glance, super handy!

So this is like the free government one?
But just paying $100+ for WiFi instead of Bluetooth?
And needed to outlay another $100+ for an electrician to install…

Pls send me a free one.

      • There are free ones (well, paid for by the government) in Victoria. Had one installed last week, works great. No display though, app only.

  • Thanks for posting! Is this bi-directional? Can I get it onto home assistant?

I looked it up and yes i believe you can as there is an intergration for it.

looking at the website will only do one-way, need to buy two to monitor both usage and solar.
I was looking at the IoTaWatt as this is more flexible with 3 phase and solar, but am yet to pull the trigger

It mentions that it can track EITHER production or consumption, so no it doesn't seem to be bi-directional.

The ad mentions "wireless" but the only reference to wifi is where it says it's not required. I suspect the "wireless" just refers to the radio link between the sensor and screen. It looks like it's a standalone device and there is no indication that it can be connected to a network so I doubt the cloud based integration will work, maybe there is something using an RTL SDR to sniff the radio transmission?

Since it is only sensing the current and not the voltage, the power calculations will be inaccurate due to variations in voltage and power factor (this is probably also why it can't be bidirectional, I'm pretty sure detecting the direction requires knowing the phase).

      • Yep. Looking through the pictures on the site, there is one where the person takes a usb stick from the device and plugs it into their laptop and it mentions "can download historic data to a csv format". I suspect this won't push anything live to the internet / cloud.

      • If you have home assistant then it's a simple task of having separate clamp on the solar input wire and tell home assistant which one is which and it will work out from there.

      • Wowsers - I have the older Efergy Engage hub and it connects to your network via ethernet. This is clearly a stand alone version - how an upgrade could lose network connectivity is baffling…

  • Would this be a better option? (I have 3 phase without solar)
