I just want one that makes no noise. It's difficult to find reviews that mention it. Currently using Xbox x and it's not too bad but just noisy enough to be annoying.

I've got this model, makes a little noise when loading the disc but don't notice it at all when watching. I have mine sitting in my TV cabinet.
Same had this model for more than six months based on recommendations that it's an improved version of the last model. Haven't heard any noise of any nature from it since I've had it. It comes with all the bells and whistles, hdr10+ and Dolby vision.
It is kind of like streaming, except the movies/shows don't disappear when you want to watch them a second time and the quality is high enough to make good use of a 4K TV
Also the movie doesn't stop half way with the stupid spinning wheel. Or suddenly the quality goes down to 320p with a notice saying "your connection is unstable!"
But seriously, anyone who is serious about hone theater picture and sound quality will stick with physical media. Dolby Atmos on DTHD is completely different from DD+.

just bought 4k tv i may need to download 4k movies but x264 size are too big - if i get x265, my nas is not capable to run it.. lol one purchase leads to another…. poor wallet
Nas should just hold the media, the client is what needs to "run" x265.

i have samsung tv (2023 model but not OLED or top of the line)
currently i use the plex app from chromecast to play movies, but it would be good if i can use plex app from tv straight.
anything on the settings i need to change?please it would be good to get x265 files and finally can enjoy 4k movies on 4k screens
Your chromecast should be able to run 4k files.
Ensure the x265 files are mkv rather than mp4 because sometime plex doesn't like mp4 x265.
If your nas is that old, I'd probably just turn transcoding off (assuming the NAS is running the plex server), which means you can't play files not supported by the client, or reduce bit rate if streaming over the internet. Also are both the NAS and Chromecast hard-wired to the network?

yup, i am fine either way - i thought one is better than another (to play x265).
only 1 issue, when i use chromecast, i can NOT change the volume with chromecast remote.
(yes the chromecast is not pluged into arc - the hdmi arc is connected to the soundbar) and the tv only have 1 arc)so i need to go to plex server on my NAS and make sure the transcoding option is off ?
If you are watching it locally on home network, it won't transcode for you, just download some x265 and put it on your NAS to test it.

If connected to soundbar, you can configure it to control soundbar volume, you can also configure it to control TV volume.
@CyberMurning: You have it set up correctly, arc is for the soundbar.
As I don't think Chromecast supports Hdmi-cec, only infra-red; I would set up the volume buttons to operate the TV volume and ensure hdmi-cec (anynet+ on your Samsung tv) is enabled on your Samsung TV to change the volume on the soundbar, that way you should have volume control from the chromecast remote whether the soundbar is on or not. (if the soundbar is always on then you could just set the remote to operate the soundbar)

Some 4k discs look WAY better. Especially if you have a newer tv like OLED.
ALL* 4K movies look better on disc.
Maybe, some 4k streaming I really don't feel they are 4k.

It's from 2000 but was shot on film. Not a surprise that it can get upres'd to 4K and look super crisp.
@poisongodmachine: Oh, I thought he was referring to the highly rated series The Patriot (2015-2018). But he's actually referring to the low-rated Hollywood film. I'm glad he can enjoy inferior films in super-crisp high resolution and watch them as many times as he wants. Definitely worth buying a blu-ray player for that.

@locknuts: Don't want to pay that much for 4k player, I do have some 4k disc never play, hope it will come down to 1080p blu-ray player price soon.
Movies filmed using actual film (e.g, 35mm instead of digital media) are almost infinitely scalable to get even more detail. Hence you can upscale old movies better compared to new movies.
To get an idea, try enlarging/zooming in on your photos. If you used digital media, you will be limited to the advancements of interpolation (computers trying to “fill the gaps” between the pixels). But physical film can be zooming much further and lose little detail.
@Nitrous: 35mm film typically has around 6k(ish) resolution, so 4k conversions done properly look great.
If your TV has Dolby Vision this is the most popular sub-$1000 player. Only reeally worth it if you’re one to care about the incremental improvements in picture quality. But it’s noticeably better than something like an Xbox.
I got the tcl mini led c835 75 inch several weeks back now been away so not been able to set up in process now. I got this ub820 4K player I priced matched a price back then and purchased with gift cards to bring price down.
I almost went for the models down from the ub820 but this seemed one to go for.
I will be using my tcl c835 with this player as i believe it has Dolby vision.I also got another tv same time as the tcl again process of setting up that was the Samsung bu8000 I believe this doesn’t have Dolby vision?
I did but another 4K player prior to looking into various models specs and reviews and got this cheaper one well I don’t think it’s cheap but less than the ub820.
That was the Sony x700 so plan on using it with the Samsung 65inch bu8000.It’s my first leap into 4K lol even though I been buying 4K movies for a few years now.
My last purchase of a tv was 2016 3d tv still going strong.
My old plasma from 2009 died a few months back which was in bedroom so Samsung will go in there and I had a cheapo target tv in main lounge to tcl 75in will go there.
The 3d tv is in small cinema room and will remain there until it dies on me.
As I still into and viewing 3d movies.
Once that dies it be replaced with a 4K also what brand or size not sure.
But I’m sure the 4K tv’s I got are good enough for my needs.
I was shocked at the price of 4K players though after all these years of 4K being out there it’s premium prices for them.
