Warning it's not good at upscaling and can't be set to simply output native resolution to let your TV do the upscaling

Fine for 4k just not blu ray (or DVD.. but given what you're purchasing I'm assuming you don't watch DVD)

    So sayeth Google

    • I have this player. I’ve no idea about “it's not good at upscaling” but at least one Reddit who owns both says it’s equal to 820.
By default, it scales everything to TV’s resolution, but you can force 1080i/1080p in “Video Format” option and this is what I do when watching 2K bluray to let my 4K TV do the scaling.
I’ve watched enough disks on it to know I wouldn’t pay for 820.

    • The appliance central one is a different model without DV

Why not just buy a ps4 and use it as a Blu-ray disc player?

    • Why not just buy a ps4 and use it as a Blu-ray disc player?

Because we don't have ps4, so simple

Sorry, does the ps4 play 4k bluray?

      • Get a Xbox One X instead

    • If same price or very near then yes, why not? If you dont play games, then save the money.

This Panasonic player is a 4K blu-ray player.

      The PS4 only has a blu-ray player.

The PS5 (disc drive version) has a 4K blu-ray player.

The DP-UB820 is much better value for money, although it is almost double the price when on sale. I bought one at JB for $517 with a perks coupon last year. It can upscale everything you throw at it, and does not have issues switching HDR formats like the Sony players.

    • yea i'll just wait for that.. got a bunch of dvd's i want to be able to watch also

  • Can this play line 21 subtitles over hdmi?

      No idea tbh

wish i had paid the extra for the 820. This works fine and upscales quite well. The remote is trash and it has an external power adaptor which i hate.

Its build quality really is rubbish. its so light it could easily fall of a table if a cable was pulled.

Its also region locked and there are no articles or youtubes to unlock it. but there is for the 820.

Its a $100 dollar player that has a stupid price normally and at $299 it still isnt worth it.

I reckon it costs $30 to build in China

    • Pretty much it’s only Panasonic left. For us, them gauging a little is better than them abandoning the market.

    • Buy one of these and cut out the poor quality player. Wait for a better price though

      • Thanks for pointing this out…

        • I didn't link the first drive that came up, this one has firmware that supports ripping to mkv, the vast majority of drives won't work on 4k blu ray discs.

If you collect media it would be something worth looking into instead of using your originals.

  • I think this is the lower model without upscaling or so, I could be wrong. I was looking for a 4k BD player back then and ended up with Sony UBP-X700 for $120 or so from Cashies, it is ideal for me as it can output audio from HDMI2 which I have connected to AVR (my stupid Samsung OLED can't pass through TrueHD audio)

Is it because you don't have 4k AVR like me?

Can it play video from Windows share or NAS?

      • yes, my AVR is a 1080p Yamaha HTR3064. I haven't tried playing anything from NAS, but my TV can do that.

        • I asked because Samsung cannot do DTS or TrueHD, if the player can maybe a good option to play 4k video files.

@superforever: Yeah same with me, I have a S90C, but I don't have any 4k files with DTS or TrueHD.
