Might want to change the Title to include what it is.

Amazon itself has it for $206 why would you go with third party?

    • This. I bought the unit listed and it arrived with the packaging open and obviously used. Cost me $20 to return.

  • Is it 4k @ 30hz?

    • Dual 4K HD displays @ 60Hz

      • How does this work? Can it do 2k at 160hz while doing a 1980 at 60 for instance

It does NOT have HDMI port OP. It has a display port.

    • Which is better but yeah.

Also this thing seems to kind of mix mac and PC use into 1. Is it cheaper to just pick your poison and go either PC or Mac specific. Or am I just not understanding what thunderbolt is? (I think its mac stuff?)

It’s not a specialisation thing as much as recent macs supporting fewer external displays. So specs for Max and Windows boxes need to be separated out.

The M series system-on-a-chip units from Apple are amazing in several ways but they don’t have many display units baked onto the chip

  • I’m guessing it uses DisplayLink? From experience, it doesn’t play nice with MacOS…

    • I think a dock with DisplayLink would be more expensive.

From memory this is probably not using DisplayLink. TB3 (Thunderbolt 3) shouldn't need DisplayLink?

      • +2

Thats correct. This is not a DisplayLink type dock. It is Thunderbolt 3 and supports dual video provided your laptop supports 2 display streams via Thunderbolt. The first stream should come out of the USB-C Thunderbolt port while the second stream should come out of the DisplayPort. As there is no indication of DisplayPort++ or Dual Mode, it will not carry HDMI signals within the DP port. If it does, one could get a DP to HDMI cable for connecting to a HDMI monitor.

    • No DisplayLink AFAICT

Fyi you won't get dual displays with this on M1/M2 MacBook Air:

That has nothing to do with the dock and it’s due to the computer but yes.
