I used to think the world of these things, then I got my Echo Show 5 and I don't think I could live without the screen now. Doubles as a bedside clock

Can’t you just get an Echo Dot for $19 on Prime Day and just ask it the time at night in bed?
True would be much cheaper. Did do that b4 but if it was the middle of the night my talking and listening to the response would wake me up too much haha. Nicer to keep the ES5 screen on low brightness and peek at the time to quickly shut my eyes & snore again :D.
Think I scored it on a $59 deal from BingLee or something so at the time the price jump wasn't tooooo bigif you whisper your question, you get a whispered response…..
I feel like the amount of light it gives off in low brightness settings is far lower than the amount of risk there is asking for the time with a sleeping baby/wife! YMMV.

Think I've bought cheaper but regardless keep in mind that these can be used as extension chimes for Eufy doorbell products. May be useful to some.

Even better, you can also use them like an intercom between rooms, or just make an announcement over whole house.
I started with the echo dot in kid's rooms, then swapped a couple out for dot with clock, and a couple now have the Show 5.
Just don't setup auto reply to motion on your ring doorbell, it might not work.
