Monsgeek M2 Barebone Keyboard $134 + Delivery ($0 MEL C&C) @ PC Case Gear

50

Monsgeek M2 (compact 1800) is on sale for $134 (down from $179) and is available in three colours:

I've recently gotten into the mechanical keyboard hobby and have been eyeing the Monsgeek M series keyboards for some time due to its relative low price point for a full aluminium keyboard with ample mod opportunities and QMK/VIA (International version). However, I think I would personally prefer the smaller form factor of the M1 (75%), or might wait for their M6 (Alice) to be released.

Description:

The MonsGeek QMK M2 Black is an 1800 compact-sized keyboard that features a gasket-mounted hot-swappable design that naturally dampens keystrokes, a south-facing modular PCB which are hot-swappable, making it easy to add and remove the switches, a new silver coloured accent. N-key rollover, an engraved back design, PCB mount/screw-in stabilisers, supports VIA for cross-platform advanced keyboard configuration (Linux/Mac/Windows) and an additional PET insulation layer.

Note: M2 requires 2 x 1.5u function keys (ALT/FN) at R1.It is compatible with Akko MDA / SAL profile keycaps. Given M2 intl' version is QMK programmable, users can literally program any key; Hence, any keycap sets with alternate 1.5u R1 keys are theoretically compatible with M2 such as Marrs Green, World Tour Tokyo Cherry Profile etc.

FYI - Monsgeek will be releasing a wireless M1 and M6 (Alice-style) keyboard soon: https://www.monsgeek.com/new-arrival/

Monsgeek is probably one of the most cost effective aluminium chassis keyboards out there. I have the M1 in red, it looks so good!

  • QMK/VIA (International version).

Yeah the Chinese versions don't have QMK for some reason, they require the Monsgeek software. That said, I don't think I've seen the CN version being sold anywhere outside of Taobao anyway. I've always wondered if they're the same PCB or can be cross-flashed as a result. Probably not.

PCCG sell the MG108W as well, for very cut-down full size with wireless, but they appear to be selling only the north-facing kit for some strange reason, despite it being rgb-less.

  • I recently bought a Keychron Q6. Other than layout, is this bare bones kit from Monsgeek the same type / style / construction as that?

    • Keychron Q6 is a full-size keyboard, vs Monsgeek M2 which is a 1800 layout meaning some of the utility keys (like home, delete) are omitted to create a narrower keyboard

Keychron has a steel plate, this one is PC. I think this one would have more flex to it? (I think they both have different aftermarket ones anyway)

Other than that, I believe they both would be gasket mount.

They'd have a different feel and sound, but those things are highly subjective.

      • Thanks for that, I'll have a think about the Monsgeek M5 when it is released. Was hoping it might be a slightly cheaper alternative to the Keychron Q6…

  • I have a pink M1 with Akko cream yellow switches and some nice poo brown keycaps, would recommend.
