Norton 360 for Gamers (1 User, 1 Device, 1 Year) $9 + Shipping (Free for mVIP Members) @ Mwave

80

Slow Sunday. I think the community will have a bit of fun on the comments as Norton is not quite the Mother Teresa transparency wise regarding auto renew and annoying pop ups to sell extra features.
I like Norton, but will probably endure the Spanish Inquisition treatment for my faith.
I am aiming this post primarily for people who want to upgrade their current Norton subscription, and also check with their parents, family & friends who might have an existing auto subscription at silly prices.
50/50 the first comment will be that "Norton is a Virus"

    Norton is a Virus

    • Peter Norton has Covid?

      • Have you asked him?

        • Yes, chatting to him right now via CompuServe about Norton Utilities. Thinking about upgrading from DOS to Windows for Workgroups 3.11

    • 2nd comment. Very good. Appreciate the effort.

  • Everyone who complains to me their computer is slow always has Norton.

    • +1

If Norton is slowing their computer down they should buy a PC less than 20 years old. Antivirus programs haven't caused noticeable slow down since the mid 00's.

      • +3

Exactly, Norton is one of the better AV's in terms of detection rate and least system impact. It sits on about 150mb RAM and 0% CPU, if that brings someone's computer to its knees they won't even be able to use a web browser with 2 tabs open.

    No thanks

WTF you need to have a credit card to activate? Is Norton holding your payment details as ransom?

    • +1

Lots of the AV crowd are doing this now. It sucks. Can always use a disposable card, or just enter your details, activate, then immediately remove your details.

Bloatware piece of shite, it's not worth the headache even if you get it for free.

    for Gamers

    Nice try Norton.
Gamers are most likely the top demographic that won't go anywhere near Norton.
The only people that touch Norton these days are baby boomers and computer illiterate peeps.

  • Bitdefender deal is better. Norton can't get rid of its old reputation of being a resource hog. I was using Norton previously and it is very light. Av comparatives and av test all confirm Norton to be lighter on resources than windows defender.

100% this - if the argument is about resources - then the posters haven't done any research, used Norton, or are simpy just sheep without a clue. Norton is actually very fast and uses bugger all resources compared to others.

      BUT

Even though I've been an advocate for Norton, I AM stepping away myself now. Not because of resources, but I've put up with having to give up my credit card details, then going in to my account and removing the renewal. As people have mentioned others do this also.

What has become unforgivable for me is the constant nagging about activating all their crap I don't want or even pretty much blatant ads. Since it became "Lifelock" it's gone downhill very fast. When I pay for something I refuse to watch ads. It's like bloody Foxtel! Turning off the notification switches does not work, you still have to press "don't show me this again" a lot of times. Can't get it to shut up any more. It's also very hard to exclude programs from their sometimes too strict policies such as legit remote software used to support clients.

It's time to go for me.

I run a computer repair shop and customers bring in slow PC's and laptops, not only older pcs but new ones as well.
The most common issue for slowness apart from HDD/SSD failure is, Norton is installed and causing resource issues.
As soon as we uninstall Norton, things start miraculously working again.
Internet speeds go up drastically, computer applications start working properly and resources free up.

I can't in good conscience recommend Norton.

Norton is one of the lightest antiviruses there is (although there are a few that are lighter) and will usually be lighter than Microsoft Defender. There will be exceptions, which is the case for all antiviruses, but usually it will have fairly minimal system impact.
