Prime day next week……I'll hold and see what comes of that.

  • +1

I will just wait for Prime day

    • What will be your trigger for this type of drive? Is there a sweet spot that you're aiming for?

      • +9

With prices going south how they are, $50 per TB is my trigger point, and I'm not even looking at 1TB SATA drives now: 2TB min.

        • -1

Haha. Your not getting that price for this drive. They'll just stop manufacturing it. Maybe 2TB and up.. but you might be waiting for clearance prices

          • @cobknob: Agreed there - it's partly why I've shifted my focus to 2TB drives, because you're right: they won't sell these for $50ea. And even if they did, I'd rather pay double and get double the storage in one disk.

+1 I would like to buy and wondering where the "sweet spot" is for value/size

        • +5

Sweet spot is the best price delivered "when you actually need it."

If you are adding it to a desktop, do you need to get a separata sata cable or does it come with one?

    • +1

I bought a 500gb model of this in the last year or two and it didn't come with a cable or any mounting screws

    • +2

Motherboard usually comes with spare SATA Cable. If you have a pre-built you can use the existing cable (assuming you're replacing a drive) or purchase a SATA cable for a couple of $$.

  • +7

Stop posting cheap SSD deals, I've bought so many from previous deals that I run out of SATA ports on both my PCs.

    • lol I agree..or at least post SSD enclosure deals at the same time ;-)

    • +6

Keep posting them! I've been hodling and about to pull the trigger

      • Yep I need an NvME SSD.

        • Didn't you get that WD 850x? That was a good one!

    • I know the feeling. I bought some Hikvision OEM YMTC flash SSDs from AliExpress recently that are about $40 per TB.

    • this is expensive storage is easy to scale you we seen nothing yet

    • I think this one is slightly faster (but do check benchmarks), and is a more established brand.

I think that the Crucial has 1GB DRAM cache which the Silicon Power does not.
It depend on your use case.
As a gaming drive either would be ok, but as a boot drive the Crucial would be better.
Someone more knowledgably than I, will be along shortly with a better explanation.

  • I know just one example, but my MX500 500GB died recently. It's the only SSD that has ever died, just doesn't get detected…
