It does not. In previous Samsung SSD deals, there have been other people who have posted that warranties are not honored. If you purchased from Amazon AU and it was fulfilled by Amazon AU, then warranty would apply. In this case, it is viewed as a grey import and that gives Samsung an out on warranty. I can tell you also 100% in my own experience that they (Samsung AU) would only honor warranty if purchased directly from an Australian based store.

        • Nope.
If it’s an Amazon US or UK listing then it is fulfilled and sent by subsidiary. No warranty in AU.

I went though the whole thing. Paid almost 60% of the price in shipping both ways to Samsung USA for RMA. Samsung Australia was uninterested in doing anything for me.

The drives themselves have different serial numbers in different regions, which Samsung verifies.

Is that AU$170? I’ve gone to checkout and stopped because I’m not sure. If it’s US$ it’ll be not so good…

    • Yep AU from Amazon AU, but it’s coming from US.

  • How does this compare to the SN 850X ? Is it worth paying the extra $70? Do both have ddr cache?

    • I was on the same boat but eventually pulled the trigger. Read some reviews overall SN850x is better overall in pretty much all aspects but the gap for me didn't justify $70 extra. I need one for OS drive and this will do for me and I have 4 extra slots…

  • What’s the cheapest eligible item to combine with and drop the overall price? It better to just buy this on its own if you don’t want the other item?

  • +1

The 980 PRO 1TB SSD with Heatsink, available at https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09JHL33X7, is currently priced at $127.

  • Thank you xo

  • +1

I'm waiting for cheaper. If it doesn't happen, I didn't need it ;)
The later the better standard. eg. M.2 PCIe 5.0 combined with DDR5 & I have to choose the optimal CPU, eg. Intel 13gen, AMD Ryzen 6*… I wish there was more (Asian) competition

  • Showing $279.47 - has this deal expired…?

  • +6

Remember: you won't be getting AU warranty on US Amazon import.
When faulty, it will be handled by Samsung US, you have to pay for courier shipping back and forth and it takes weeks-months.

Source: I did RMA on 980 PRO and Samsung AU repeatedly refused to help.

    • +5

Australian consumer law states that the retailer is responsible for warranty, not the manufacturer. You can choose to deal with Samsung but you don't have to; Amazon's 100% responsible for resolving any warranty issues, taking into account what one would expect given the sale price, if they sold it to you.

If the resolution timeframe for a repair isn't reasonable you're entitled to a refund or replacement.

I just confirmed with amazon chat that cafeman is correct, Amazon will cover the cost of postage to return it for warranty in the 5 year period and they will get you a refund. I even have the screen caps to prove it in case I ever have an issue with my drive lol.

Unfortunately Thinkscapes' 'source' wasn't thinking too hard for this one and chose the hard route 🤔

        • Hahahah.
          Yeah nah. Cool theory bro.

The source is: Amazon Australia, Samsung Memory USA, Samsung Australia.

Go ahead, order it and see for yourself. The drives have different serial numbers in different regions. Items marked as Amazon US and UK etc are fulfilled and sent by subsidiaries in those countries, it’s an import, so you are not covered by domestic warranty.

    • Blinky is that u? rofl

    • +1

Did you contact Amazon AU support? Some OZBers indicated Amazon AU would manage it.
That's why people prefer to buy from Amazon AU, rather than Amazon US directly.

    • when I bought from Amazon US via AU, it was no hassle to return it, and I did not pay return postage. They just gave me a label, I sent it back and they refunded me in full.

      • Only within the short return window. After that you’re dealing with the respective subsidiaries, so UK or US. Because it’s an import there is no 1 year domestic warranty guarantee.
        A. US doesn’t have 1 year warranty and Samsung drives have different serial numbers in retail regions, and Samsung Australia will bluntly tell you to buzz off if you ask them for RMA. Only Samsung Memory USA can do RMA for US drives.

        • +2

No, it was over a year later. The return window is only for automated return process. Outside of that window, you just speak to a CSR through online chat, and they will authorize it for you. After that, you get your refund.

Because it’s an import there is no 1 year domestic warranty guarantee.

Doesn't matter. If the item says 2 year warranty, they have to honor it.

          A. US doesn’t have 1 year warranty and Samsung drives have different serial numbers in retail regions, and Samsung Australia will bluntly tell you to buzz off if you ask them for RMA. Only Samsung Memory USA can do RMA for US drives.

You can still go through Amazon AU. They will send you a label that returns it to the US or UK. I have done this myself and can confirm it. I returned two external HDDs to Amazon US via AU that were well beyond a year old. One of them they didn't even bother asking me to send it back. They just credited me the refund immediately and told me to dispose of it myself.

Thank you everyone for making this out of stock. Kept looking at this deal thinking "why not.. why shouldn't I have it?"….

    • +1

You realise after 99% of the deals that are expired on Ozbargain, if you truly reflect, you don't really need it…

    • +1

Back in stock mate - go for gold :P

  • +1

    Still available, $170.32!

  • Great to go with the previously posted motherboard deal. Now need a good deal on ram, a case, and a GPU

      • +1

        $167 now

        • Yep got one, arrives 18th July just on cusp of returning the $206 one purchase 25 days ago

  • +1

Not much of a tech head, can anyone explain why this is such a popular deal? I've seen plenty of 2tb drives at lower prices, is this particularly fast or something?

    • +2

quite fast. Very cheap for 2TB. They sell the 250GB version for only $7 less than the 2TB.

    • +1

Yeah this is one of the fastest drives in the market.

  • Alright, you got me… ordered a third one.

  • I want to buy 8 like some of us here to do a RAID.

  • Got one, thanks OP, I couldn't resist the price! :D

  • +2

I recommend this heatsink - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004680126483.html (not the RGB version).

  • The prices keep coming down. Almost like a countdown to Prime day.

  • 980 pro or Lexar® NM790 M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4×4 NVMe SSD 2TB NVMe SSD for $155?

    https://www.bpctech.com.au/product/lnm790x002t-rnnng-lexar-n…

    • Lexar is dramless

      Lexar will have local warranty
Samsung only 1 year from amazon

      • Incorrect, Amazon will honour the 5 years and I confirmed this with chat and can provide screenshots if needed.

        • -2

          YMMV

        • Can you please send me these screenshots

        • 5 year warranty in the retail region of the drive.
I did my RMA and Samsung Australia refused and told me that this is US release.
Had to send it to USA for replacement.

  • Do I need this? someone convince me, I keep coming back to this deal :-)

    • +1

Buy it! I didn’t need one but I still bought one!

      • True OzBargainer

        • I now wait for a 990 Pro deal on Prime Day!

    • I'm in the same board.. i got two 980 1TB drives last year for this price each

      • Managed to hold off buying anymore ssd during prime sales. Have a few sitting on shelves and one in my bag, all collecting dust.

  • Buy this 980 Pro 2TB or buy a 990 Pro 1TB for $116

    • depends on use case, 980 pro 2tb better for boot and games if you don't need the extra speed from the 990 pro

  • I ONLY NEED ONE!

  • Sooo it's on amazon for $99 > https://www.amazon.com.au/SAMSUNG-Internal-Gaming-MZ-V8P2T0B…

Who wants to take the gamble on a new storefront?

    • No way will this be fulfilled

  • +1

Price showing 203 for me now

  • Mine arrived today. I got a Samsung 870 PRO 500GB SATA SSD with a product sticker for the 980 on it.

Pretty bummed, have to go through Amazon for the return/refund now.

    • Was it sealed?

      • Yeah it was.

        • So it was Amazon that stuffed it up but not some low lifes trying to swap and return SSDs.

        • Refund it and get this instead.

          • @FrugalNotStingy: Nice price, I'll think about it. But this was purely an impulse purchase and I don't feel like I need an SSD anymore…

            • @dqtl74: Tell me about it. I impulsively bought 4 SSDs from Amazon in a week. I think I will keep two. One for PS5 and one for external storage.

              • @FrugalNotStingy: Bit the bullet on this deal. All of my orders from Amazon UK have been fine, first time I order from US this happens.

Luck of the draw I guess.

                • @dqtl74: I also bought one from that deal after I was able to cancel my previous order.
Is it sending from the UK? The seller is SK Hynix EU so I wasn’t sure what country it would ship from.
Also I noticed on checkout the seller name was also Hitachi-LG Data Storage.

    • Same here 870 sata Evo instead of 980 pro.. wonder how many of us got the wrong product delivered?

      • I cancelled my pending order from Prime day for this drive as well. Don't wanna get stung again by Amazon US.

        • The prime deal was with heatsink which was a different part number. With Amazon US, who knows what'd turn up… not the first time I've had the wrong item sent..

          • @BargainKen: Yeah it just left a bad taste in my mouth so I might have been a bit rash. Ended up ordering another SSD for my PC anyway.

Now to just wait for another good deal (hopefully with a heatsink) for the PS5.

    • I ordered two of them and got one 870 evo 2TB and one 980 pro 2TB. Could be an error in inventory, ended up returning both.

  • Parcel just arrived with a 870 500GB - Rahhhh

  • The two I ordered arrived - Both are Production March 2023, Firmware 5B2QGXA7 which is the latest apparently.
Earlier firmware listed is ISO 3B2QJXD7 - https://semiconductor.samsung.com/consumer-storage/support/t…

    Problem/Bad Firmware is 3B2QGXA7

  • I received an 870 EVO SSD. I had a good experience before returning something with Amazon. But this time it was different. They wanted me to goto a ParcelPost or something where they would send it back. Problem is that I live hours away from anything like that. So I had to goto the post office and send it back to the Las Vegas US out of my pocket and then Amazon will refund me apparently. So now I know, returning something that was sent to me via Amazon US is a bit more of a headache to deal with if I need to return the item.
