    P31s as well.

    • My understanding is this is one of the most power efficient drives going around.

  • +9

    Cheaper AFTER Prime Day.

    • except P31 2TB.

      • +4

2TB can get discount too, make sure you are buying from SK Hynix EU

        • You're right.

  • Yea this sucks. Paid $180 in the Prime Day sale and now this. Get stuffed.

EDIT: I know they're probably competing with the 980 Pro deals…

    • i was a little cut when it was 177 on prime day and missed it cause i was procrastinating, feels bad man.

      • Glad I hesitated to purchase it during prime day sales now lol.

  • +1

Could I use it on a PS5? What heatsink should I buy with this?

    • +2

Why the neg? Genuine question haha

      • +7

I didn't neg. Every M.2 drive deal someone asks this when they could Google and then let the community know first.

    • +1

Yes, works in PS5. Just get the Elecgear heatsink an it will be fine.

    • It is overdoing it for PS5 but will work with no issues. Please note comments about getting a heat sink and get one.

    • +1

Yes, and any nvme compatible heatsink kit from Amazon or Ebay (can get a fairly cheap one for under $20)

  • +1

Wh8ch is better? This or the Samsung 980 Pro?

  • Would this be suitable to put into a laptop?
    Regarding heat mostly

    • This is one of the lowest power consuming SSDs, which means less heat at the same time

      • Is it worth paying 20 bucks extra for the P41 over the P31? Some people say it's not a noticeable difference

        • +1

Depends on what PCIe your device using. My PC is z490 which is using PCIe 3x4 so there’s no point of me buying PCIe 4x4 (P41) SSD

          • @timliu1996: Yeah my laptop only has PCIe 3x4 (I'm pretty sure), but am considering reusing the storage in the future if I get a new computer

      • +1

Low power consumption for PCIe gen 4 x4 SSD, yes. There are PCIe gen 3 x4 SSDs having even lower power consumption.

Less heat… not exactly though, quoting Tom's Hardware:

During a write workload, we recorded the surface temperature at about 85C versus 82C reported by the sensor, so reports of the drive throttling by 90C, on FLIR, are accurate.

        • Hmmmm makes me worry if I stick it in a laptop

        • Yeah 4x4 would be better with heatsinks on

        • Any recommendation for M.2 SSD that would cooler temp wise? It's just mainly for PC storage.

  • suprizingly this is better than 990pro

    • Why is this please?

      • +1

        4k random read

  • Managed to cancel my Prime day order and order this one!

  • +1

Better than 980pro deal if you put it in PC.

  • Cant cancel my order from previous deal because its already shipped… :(

    • +1

      You can always return it.

  • +1

I was gonna bite the bullet until I looked around for "SK Hynix Warranty claim"
There's hardly any details (even official claim forms etc) that I feel it's non-existent…
There's one Reddit post with hardly any details suggesting Amazon won't honour warranty return after a year and SK Hynix telling people to ask place of purchase.

No idea how this plays out for a 3rd party seller oversea on Amazon AU :/…

    • +2

Screw it. Really need a larger drive to hold my games and this is so much cheaper to alternatives. Ordered.

    • Realistically speaking, what are the chances that one would need to RMA one of these ssd's? I obviously understand the importance of warranty, but just genuinely ignorant of the likelihood because I have not yet had computer hardware fail on me

      • I've RMA'd (on top of my head)
        - a Ryzen 3600x (1 bad core)
        - a AIO CPU cooler (pump nearly caught fire, PC started smoking while I was gaming)
        - 2x AW3821DW due to flickering issue
        - 1x old Seagate spin drive stopped spinning
        - 2x fan died due to bad bearing

Maybe I just have shit luck.

I imported one of these when they had no local stock and prices were pretty insane, could have bought four at this price haha and had change to spare ;-)

Honestly don't mind, it's a great drive and I would have paid twice what I did happily to have my PC running all this time, it's just funny how fast prices have dropped in 12 months!

Honestly people whinging about missing out on a few dollars, that's how the cookie crumbles man. Wait until Black Friday sales, the way NAND prices are set to go prices should drop significantly, and when the sales start retailers with excess stock are gonna want to dump it FAST. The whole industry is beset by depressed sales and by years end economic conditions are only gonna get worse. In the enterprise space we actually see sales picking up as they want to get in front of expected growth conditions predicted for 24 to 36 months, particularly around growth industries like renewables, electric vehicles and the industries supporting those sectors like copper, lithium and rare-earth-minerals mining, and of course the explosion in AI is pushing production to its absolute limits, but consumer spending is decimated and the retail tech space is oversupplied and haemorrhaging badly, so by years end expect a lot of stock to be flushed and a lot of pivots as those that can realign production resources to follow growth drivers in enterprise, automotive, and cloud vendor categories.

    • Great post and you're 100% right I'm already over the price difference. I'm still keen to get my hands on it.

    • Yep I hear you. Paid $375 for the 2tb model almost exactly 1 year ago. It was the only want I wanted for my laptop

    • Paid $198 for 1TB 980 Pro in June last year from Mwave. Swear I bought it for like $150

  • Thanks - bought 1. Now to see how it performs against the 980 pro…

    • its faster…proven.

  • It took me a while to understand this is a hard drive. What happened to the good slow, low storage days of HDD…

    • +1

Kinda died out as home phones have/are.

  • +2

Cancelled my pending 980 Pro 2TB order then ordered this instead, cheers! Same price, seems to be better performance (on PC at least)

  • First part of new build purchased. Ty OP

  • Does Amazon provide warranty on International orders? I cannot see any option after 30 days of return for my international orders.

    • +1

Just had a chat to amazon aus support and they said it’s covered by both seller and amazon for 5 years

  • Did anyone get a drive from SK Hynix EU? They've got one feedback. I got to them from the main SK Hynix store.

I ordered one on the 26 June 2023 for $294.99. It was an empty box. I only found out when I was onsite ready to install it in a staff member's computer. Amazon is threating to close my account now. It was correctly delivered you see.

If someone ends up with drive S/N: SHPP41-2000GM-2 BFSDC5N459612305G4D, I've got the box (SDC5N4596123 213 402254-012) for it.

    Good luck everyone!

    • Are you implying that the SK Hynix EU store is fake and they just ship empty boxes?
Not having a dig btw, just genuinely curious if I should be concerned.

Would like to know if someone has purchased from this store previously.

      • +2

The retail box I got was empty. It looked correctly sealed to me. We'll have to wait for others to confirm whether the store itself is fake.

If you are going to buy it, I recommend filming the opening. It's an insane deal if not a scam.

        • Thanks for the reply mate 🙏

        • +4

And I thought I was being paranoid filming unboxing just in case..
Pro tip: Place phone on a table/desk edge with camera facing down and unbox on the floor for easy filming

        • It's likely a scam where someone bought the SSD, opened the box without tampering the seal (maybe applying some sort of heat to the glue), removed the contents and resealed the box making it look unboxed, and then returned it to Amazon for a refund

It does suck that Amazon is suspecting you instead. Hope it works out in your favour

          • @povogamer: Amazon was right to suspect me. I was too dumb to work out how the packaging operated.

            • @Cool Skeleton: Hahaha, glad it worked out though

            • +1

@Cool Skeleton: Every other manufacturer I've seen with this package design uses clear plastic because man does this look like an empty tray unless you know otherwise.

        • +4

Going through Amazon reviews found this interesting comment. Excerpt from a user review,

Perhaps the other thing you may not realize is that the NVMe drive is in the box between the plastic pieces. Its so light and sealed firmly that you may think you got an empty box. It is in there! Separate the two pieces of plastic protecting it!

          • +1

@fastnet: Yup, that's what it was. You saved me.

            • @Cool Skeleton: It’s the stupidest packaging ever. I read your initial comment and the reply above and still it looked like empty packaging to me initially.

        • +1

I got mine today, and it was ok. When you open the box first, it looks like there's an empty tray but in fact the SSD is sandwiched between two trays stacked on top of each other. You just need to open it.

Upon checkout on the checkout page, I had a glimpse of the seller‘s name and I saw they also went by the name ’ Hitachi-LG Data Storage‘ so should be legit.

Sellers could name their shop whatever but I also saw this online announcement article

Hence, SK Hynix EU should be legit.

  • Crazy how prices have dropped. I bought a 2TB Crucial P1 in 2020 for $335AUD of Newegg, because it was cheaper to import one from the US than buy one here.

  • I purchased the Samsung 990 Pro 2tb for $217 last night from Amazon.

This hynix drive seems to be on par with the 990 pro?
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1B27_j9NDPU3cNlj2HKcr…

  • SSD prices are crazy in these two days, HDD is too quiet…

  • Great find OP

  • Promotion has now ended :-(

    • Wow that was fast, thought I'd sleep on it oh well

      • Well it's back now lol but now only 30% off ?

    • Thought it was going to end on the 16th?
After reading Cool Skeleton‘s experience, I might not be able to rest easy before my order arrives.

    • I thought I could sleep on it with the promo supposedly ending on the 16th…

      • +1

There's a 30% off coupon atm, brings it down to $178 which is pretty much what it was on prime day

  • bought a 970 evo plus 2tb for $153. Should i return it and get p41 for $178?

    • I would

    • Yes but depends where you planned to install the SSD.

      • i have already got a samsung 990 pro 1tb. So that, to be paired with:
        1) 970 evo plus 2tb $153
        2) p41 2tb $178

        • p41

        • If you can get full speed from the Samsung 990 Pro with your current set up, then definitely return the 970 Evo Plus and get this P41.

          • @FrugalNotStingy: Depends on whether the slot is PCIe 4.0 or not. Some motherboards only have a limited number of PCIe 4.0 lanes, so you should check your motherboard manual.

            • @happychappy1: I presume his rig could handle 2 PCIe 4.0 slots but I am not sure if he bought the 970 evo plus was because of the price or that of the limited PCIe 4 slots available.

  • +4

They came back with 30% off coupon now

    • -1

Deal still on. Just tick the 30% off box. Discount applied at checkout

  • I wonder if this would be over kill to run in an external enclosure to run with an Apple Mac Studio ?

Is there a difference between Gen 3.2 and gen 4 for that purpose ?

    • Well I was feeling adventurous this afternoon and ordered it anyway.

I used my Bupa Life Rewards discount of 3% on Amazon Giftcards and saved a little more too.

NOTE: Only issue was that the Life Rewards site said "Please wait up to 72 hours to receive your card" so I could have been stuck with a shopping cart ready to go on Amazon with no gift card to purchase it with. ANZ Blocked my card and sent a SMS to ask if I was trying to buy. Took 15 minutes to clear the card after saying yes to the Life Rewards site purchase.

I entered in the exact amount of my Amazon shopping cart ($217.48 = 2TB P41 with an enclosure) as the gift card amount so out of pocket was $210.96.

      Fun times 😀👍

    • +1

The enclosure using USB3 at 10Gigabits throughput would be using Gen3 x 2.

If you find something using thunderbolt you might get Gen 4 speeds.

      • I cancelled the order for the Orico enclosure to research more get something faster. Some enclosures are stupidly priced though.

        • After trying to find an enclosure and hearing of incompatibilities with SK Hynix I cancelled my order for the P41.

I contacted SK Hynix directly and they do not recommend their SSD's in enclosures other than in a computer.

          • @6828: Maybe get a Samsung 980 Pro or 990 Pro for your Mac Studio.

  • +1

Thanks OP! Was going to buy the KC3000 for $196, but jumped on this after reading all the comments!

  • Bought one could not resist for the price

  • whats the difference vs the gold p31?

    just for storage

    • P41 PCIe 4x4 7000MB/s
      P31 PCIe 3x4 3500MB/s
