8kg Heat Pump Dryer $599, 10kg Front Load Washing Machine $499 @ ALDI

480

They're in silver & black as well as in white now, I think this is the first time multiple colours have been available? First time for the heat pump dryer anyway.

That is a very good price - 8kg and an unbeatable 3 years warranty.
I have better set the alarm and start sprint practice

    • I bet you won't be sprinting back with a 52kg dryer in tow.

    • Why, does it come with a discounted electricity rate?

      • +2

        Yes - it's heat pump

        • +1

Cheaper than direct solar or indirect gas?
Genuinely interested these days with the cost of energy (and the 25% increase in electrical rates today)

          • +1

@reactor-au: Yes, for the gas at least. Heat pumps are around 300-400% efficient when looking at enectricity energy in to heat energy out. Gas is around 80-90% and resistive electric is 90-100%.

    • +1

      is Aldi's warranty really good?

      • +1

I had my dryer stop spinning and they sent a replacement pretty quickly

    • +1

A 3 year warranty on a $600 appliance impresses you?

  • Is this from a higher tier of OEM than the usual Aldi Special garbage? I guess there's a warranty…

    • +2

The last few heat pump dryers have been esatto

      • +2

This also looks like a rebrand of the same model. However Aldi are now offering a 3 year warranty on it, up from just one year previously. Ours failed in just six months. Water leak, broken belt and shattered motor pulley wheel. The service technician determined that the part was not available, and said there was no parts centre. Ended up getting refunded. I'd like to think that this has changed and that parts are now available.
The Esatto branded model has a service number for parts, so there is a possibility of getting them through there.
You can count on Bunnings price matching the Esatto 8kg dryer at $599 (currently $642) during Aldi's promotion. The Esatto states it has
2 year warranty, however one review claimed they got an additional year via registration. https://www.bunnings.com.au/esatto-8kg-white-heat-pump-dryer…

Also to consider is the Beko 7kg with 5 year warranty which often goes on sale for $699-$720.

        • Yeah I had encountered the same problem with water leak but it happened within the first 2 days of use. I purchased mine from Appliance Online so they replaced it with a new one the following day. After that it has been very reliable. The second unit seems 'quieter' too than the first one.

  • Wonder how it compares to the perennial OzBargain favourite heat pump dryer - the Esatto…

    • one might pick up, like aldi's last model they look very similiar ;)

  • Pretty sure we bought the dryer heat pump from Aldi 2 years ago with 2 colors

  • +1

Wonder if it has reverse tumble

  • Is it worth going through the aldi punch up to get the unbranded Essato or wait for an appliances online deal?

  • +1

I got one in the last sale. It's been awesome. It's a rebranded essatto, when I rocked up there was plenty of stock and I got there around 10am.

Oh and I dragged mine through the shop and wedged it in my little hatchback. It's heavy but unless you're a wuss it's manageable 1 person.

    • Manageable with 1 but much easier with 2 if that is workable.

    • +15

      "It's heavy but unless you're a wuss it's manageable 1 person."

This type of attitude cost my friend his back.

He now lives in constant pain - he can't even sit or drive for too long. Even after the MRI and evidence of spinal impingement, the bosses still treat him like shit.

It's not "wuss" behaviour to ask for help when carrying heavy loads, it's common (profanity) sense.

      • +6

Yeah but at least his clothes are dry

      • +5

Totally with you on this. I recently moved apartments and everyone told me to rent a truck and do it myself. Stuff that! I'd rather pay $1K for it to be done rather than saving $1K and destroying my back forever.

  • +4

I purchased both these last year and have no complaints at all. Washes our clothes perfectly. We were a little worried coming from a top loader but am happily converted since buying this.
The dryer is amazing too, it doesn't heat up the room and always drys everything. I have to clean the front radiator fins (or whatever it is) with the vacuum about every month. I could probably not but I want to keep this sucker maintained.
The power bill has gone up a touch, though we never had a dryer previously. So much more convenient, it gets flogged at least twice a day. Figured we'd give it a good run for 3 years whilst in warranty, once it hits that timeframe it's been worth the money spent.

We also purchased the stacking kit which has a nice pull out shelf. It's a must if you plan to stack these, makes loading the dryer a breeze.

    • in the market for a washing machine and dryer. for the dryer would you have rather bought one that was more power efficient?

      • Given this has a 3 year warranty and about half the price of others, and having the expectation of an increase in power anyway from using the dryer, I am happy I purchased this. You could compare power efficiency and do the math over a year, or even 3 years and then compare. I'm happy with this one though

      • +1

Can also depend what your laundry space is like. If you have it in a cupboard, HIGHLY recommend spending the money on a heat pump dryer. It prevents the room from getting all hot and moist, which is really bad for multiple reasons. It does dry clothes slower, but at a lower temp too, so it's less hard on clothes.

Air Dryer: Faster, hotter, blasts hot moist air into surrounding environment, more power consumption. Ok with well ventilated laundry rooms.
Heat Pump: Takes a bit more time, self contains airflow, less heat, better for clothes, less power consumption (even when taking the longer run time into account). Perfect for closed off Laundy cupboards (e.g. apartments)

    • Are you able to share a link or photo of the stacking kit? I have been looking for something like that and spent a while searching Aldi website just now, and did not figure it out.

Am only interested in the dryer, and not sure whether it will make sense to stack that on a different brand washing machine.

  • People queuing for them, really hard to snatch one up

    • What… i got both yesterday no issues.

  • +8

I bought a heat pump dryer from Aldi when they have it first time. In a couple of years it dies suddenly, they just returned me money, no question asked. Out of curiosity and after watching some YouTube videos, I replaced the starter capacitor and the thing is still running strong.

  • Does anyone know if the dryer can be mounted on the wall? Our apartment has hooks pre installed for a dryer but didn’t come with one. Keen to get a dryer now, especially with the colder season and our balcony having very little shade to actually be able to dry clothes during this season.

    • +1

Heat pump dryer is too heavy for wall mounting.

      • What about mounting the dryer on top of a front load washing machine?

        • +1

Our lg heat pump came with brackets for this, which you install between the 2 machines at the back. Chucked an anti vibration mat in the middle, works fine.

        • I'd assume it's ok considering the image in the catalogue shows it mounted in top of a washer

  • Curious where the heat pump dryer is made?

  • do we need to keep upright like fridge for transport?

    • +2

All heat pumps (refrigerator, aircon, this dryer) can be turned over for transport, you just have to leave it the correct way up for an hour or two before you plug it in.

    • These are notorious for having water in them when new. Turning it into it's side will spill it.

      • why have water?

        • Can only speculate it's been run for QC testing and the some of the condensed water remains. It's not much, that would leak though the box, so a few towels should do the trick, or having a boot liner.

  • Are these better shrink prevention than traditional dryers?

    • +1

Don't get nearly as hot as a vented dryer but always a chance of shrinkage

  • Can the heat pump dryer (50ish kg) balance on top of the washer (78kg)? Or does it go along side it due to size restriction.

    • There will usually be a stacker kit for a specific brand or brands to stack a heat pump dryer on a front load washer. Otherwise there are some generic stacker kits, or other people who just use shock absorbing mats or even nothing.

  • +2

Has anyone bought the washing machines before?

  • Can this actually be stacked? When I look at the dimensions, the dryer is deeper than my washing machine (and also deeper than the Aldi washing machine). Wouldn't it be unsafe to stack the dryer onto a smaller washer? Although checking last year's special buys, the dimensions were same as this year yet Aldi was even selling a compatible stacking kit for that so…

If it can be stacked, any recommendations on stacking kits? Doesn't look like Aldi is selling one this time.

  • Newbie to all this, never had dryer. Looking at some comments above, is heat pump dryer ,like this not good for electricity costs, Is there any plumbing connection required or just electricity, can it be stored in garage?

    • Heat pumps are the most efficient type of dryer for energy efficiency, but can take a little longer than old school dryers.

No plumbing connection required. Almost all heat pumps come as standard with a drainage hose you link to your sink just like you would for a washer machine, and also come with an internal reservoir which needs to be emptied periodically if you don’t want to run the hose to your sink.

      • Thanks for that. So, I can put this in garage where there won't be possible to drain via hose but can empty the internal reservoir. My partner is not keen to store it in laundry due to hot air etc…

        • Yep.

But you don’t have to worry about hot air or condensation with a heat pump, hence the venting to the reservoir rather than into the laundry airspace like the condensing dryers of yore.

          • @UncleRico: thanks. for those who have bought this, will it fit in toyota camry sedan?

        • Depending on where you live, I wouldn't put a heat pump dryer in a garage. If the ambient temperature of the room is too cold, the heat pump dryer won't work properly. It needs to be in a room between 15-25c temperature.

Get Appliances Online to price match Bunnings (who have price matched Aldi). Free next day delivery, removal of old dryer (if needed) and unboxing of new dryer

    • @JutakuHome Do you have a link for the Bunnings price match? I can't find it on their website

      • +1

Weirdly, when doing a Google search, it comes up as $599. However, when clicking on the Bunnings link, the price reverts to $693.

        • -1

location variation - $642 for melbourne and Brisbane but $693 in Sydney.

    • The list of sites the customer service agent gave me didn’t include bunnings, so I gave up and bought it at bunnings. Not to mention this morning when I was looking at appliances online, they didn’t deliver to Canberra but all of a sudden they do now. Thinking about cancelling my bunnings order if I can get it from AO. The $50 is worth is to not have to get it from Aldi.

    • I tried and got this.

We, unfortunately, do not have a price match guarantee with that company.
These here are the companies we do match with:
      Betta Electrical
      Big W
      Bing Lee
      David Jones
      E&S
      The Good Guys
      Harvey Norman
      JB HiFi

I guess they have the right to price match who they want, but still a little silly that they won’t price match Bunnings, which is just like any of the other retailers listed. Bunnings it is!

  • I got told the same with approved retailers, they did try and then said "Been told we cannot price match with bunnings as it below our margin."

  • Any idea if the dryer can be mounted under a bench top? (Esatto manual for washing machine confirms it can.)

  • This Aldi/Bunnings dryer or an equivalent Beko at about $1K - $1.1K?

    Some models I was looking at;

    https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/beko-8kg-heat-pu…
    https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/beko-9kg-sensor-…

Our previous Aldi (Stirling brand) dryer (non heat pump) stopped drying clothes recently after about 10+ years of use.

  • Does anyone here own a Aldi/Stirling Front loading washing machine?

    Are they any good?

I wonder why the Goodguys don't sell a cheap one like this.

    • I keen to find out as I'd like to replace our old faithful bosch front load

If you scroll up past the previous post that asked the same question, you will see there appears to be all of ONE happy customer in the comment section. If you go to all the trouble of clicking this link and doing yet MORE scrolling (oh the humanity) you will see that TGG also sells similarly priced washing machines. There's at least 3 or 4 on the first page alone. I know its tough, but the information you seek is out there. (Right in front of you) Good luck with the 2 minutes scrolling it will take. ;)

  • How on gods green earth do you connect the water bypass hose to the dryer?
