  • +1 for the name

    0 purchase for the prices

    • The price, for beans in this blend that have Q ratings of 83 and 85.5, is in fact very good.
Glad you like the name 😊
I had fun writing the add 😁

    • +1

For starters, my coffee, from the quality of beans, to the roasting process, are better. That price is actually under the price of my raw green beans. It’s like having a Ferrari for $250000 and posting and add for a $70000 Kia on it. Sure, the Kia is good. But it’s no Ferrari.

    • So you like bland one dimensional tasting coffee? Only great thing about it is the price. To compare Aldi beans to local roasters is a bit of a stretch

    • That’s not a valid neg mate. If that’s the case then every fresh roasted coffee shouldn’t be on here.
And I would never buy Aldi coffee over fresh roasted coffee.

  • +5

Delivery is way too expensive. Also all the branding is way too sexual for me to take it seriously. Big shots, BBC, once you go black… is the target market 14 year old boys?

    • +2

That’s just how much delivery is until I sort out AusPost discounts. I can’t pay for delivery under $50 or I simply lose money. But it is free over $50. Free is not very expensive.
I’m sorry you’re offended by our tongue in cheek approach on this one. It’s just supposed to be a bit off fun. I hope 14 year old boys aren’t too into BBC, or coffee.

      • Haha nothing would surprise me with 14 year Olds these days.
Sorry if I seem overly critical of the name, I just don't want mum to come over for a coffee and have to tell her we'll be having BBC by big shots 😂

        • 😂 I totally get it’s not for everyone and a bit gimmicky. It is good coffee though. We do have another great coffee called “boom Shaka latte”That really came from playing heaps of NBA JAM when I was a kid. The commentator in the game would say “boom Shaka laka” after a big dunk… or was it a 3 pointer?? Oh god… now I have to find an NBA JAM arcade somewhere!! 😂

  • +2

Nah I’ll stick with Aldi thanks

    • +2

Aldi’s coffee is actually pretty good. Mines better for sure. But theirs is very cheap. Wouldn’t it be great if local, Australian, artisan producers could have the same buying power as massive German corporations. genießen Sie es

      • +1

What's that got to do with a community website for sharing bargains?

  • Name and the sexual innuendo has put me off ordering. Not appropriate. Time and a place for ‘a bit of fun’.

    • +1

We can change the branding if too many people are turned off. But it is coffee designed, through bean selection and roasting process, to be consumed as black ie espresso, pour over, batch brew etc. So Big Black Coffee was the natural progression. It may be divisive, but I think people will appreciate the joke and the coffee.

  • Yeah, I don’t know what Aldi has to do with a website for sharing bargains either. But I can tell you, for the quality of the bean here, cafes don’t pay much less than this price for wholesale when buying 20kg + at a time.

    • +5

The irony is you've been caught sockpuppeting & are now in the penalty box.

This goes against the whole reason this website was created, making fake comments to try & profit from the community.

      • -1

No fake comments were made. I think I may have just not clicked a box on association somewhere, or something like that because I’m new on here and I’m trying to figure this site out. I’ve asked the moderators for clarity. I’m just trying to make nice coffee and sell it at a good price well under retail prices.

          • @WatchNerd: That was a customer of my cafe in Brighton, SA. We use and sell our beans from there. It is a true and valid comment. I didn’t prompt it. They told me after they had commented that they’d seen the listing and commented how much they love it. Is that really why? Surely not?

            • @BigShotsCoffee: The moderators don't usually get this stuff wrong. If they have I will remove my neg vote.

              • +1

@WatchNerd: I assure you they have. It went like this, to be exact, that person, a loyal customer, told me about this site and that if I can afford to offer a discount, then it’s a good site. I checked it out later. I put a listing up. They were in my cafe. I said “I put a listing on that site you told me about, cheers.” I saw them later and they said, I put a comment to let people know how good your coffee is - they’ve been consuming my products both in my cafe and at their home for a long time. I saw the comment later and thought, that’s nice to have someone who’s been a customer IRL to give us props. Next thing I know, I’m banned for sockpuppeting (thinking what the hell is that? 😂) and being told I’m misleading a community! Bizarre! I’m not saying anything against anyone personally, I guess it’s a reaction to fake deals or scams maybe. And I appreciate you letting me know why, cause I’m finding this site a little confusing to navigate. But all I’m trying to do is sell my coffee, that I love, at the best price I can afford to (not the best price Aldi can afford to) as a local producer. I’ve had a few sales on here, which is awesome. But thus far, a lot of negativity and feeling pretty unwelcome. Again, maybe a product of lots of scams and fakes? Anyway, I’ll carry on and I’m sure the people that do try my coffee will be the lucky ones.

              • +1

@WatchNerd: I’m going to watch this space. Want to find out if they were wrong or not around sockpuppeting

                • @maverickjohn: I have told the mods that it was a customer from my cafe. I have not had a response. I can only assume because they have bought from me in real life and not through the site, and they have said supportive comments about my product, and mods don’t see purchases by that account from my store, that it’s sockpuppeting, even though it’s from someone that is a customer of my cafe and not an associate of my business. I’ve tried explaining this to them, but just haven’t heard anything back. I have seen the customer in my cafe since and he’s pretty upset that his “offense” has caused a ban. But it’s not really his fault. I don’t think he did anything wrong, and told him not to worry or feel bad. And I literally didn’t do anything at all. Someone that drinks coffee at my cafe, and buys it to take home, commented on a deal I put up on a website. Don’t know how I’m supposed to control that?!

                  • @BigShotsCoffee: I agree with you and you also seem genuine. I feel bad as well. But hopefully they will overturn. We had some recent St. Ali reps do dodgy in a few threads. So it has happened.
Probably why there was little threshold from mods. But kudos to your customer for giving a shout out.

                    • @maverickjohn: That does explain a lot. I actually just started buying tea from St Ali for the cafe. Maybe I’ll have a look around for someone else. It doesn’t look like this decision will be turned around at this stage. But I’ll just go with it and move on and hopefully just gain trust by doing the best deals I can afford to with the best coffee I can produce.
And I agree, that customer is not only a great customer, but a really nice guy - kudos for supporting local businesses that you appreciate, even if it gets them a slap on the wrist! Seems unfair, but given what you’ve said about St Ali, it’s about protecting the buyers, not the vendors - which is fair.

  • If buying 1kg it's cheaper to buy the non OzBargain "special" than it is to buy the "special".

$52 Free shipping for the non special. $54 (39+15 shipping) for the "special".

    Mmmhmmm.

    • +1

Or, $39 for a kg + $12 for 250g qualifies for free shipping = 1.25kg for $51 compared to the non special for 1kg for $52.

      Mmmhmmm.

      • Not a bad shout tbf. One my lizard brain didn’t even think of.

Definitely a much better option doing it that way haha. My apologies.

        • +1

All good mate. We all get a bout of the lizard brain from time to time! 😁 The postage thing is a tricky one, but a cost l do have to cover below a certain price point, unfortunately.

  • Yeah I would do with a name change. I’m more than happy to try your coffee but seriously I’d be so embarrassed to recommend a coffee with that name.
Give it a name change then pm me. I will try it

  • We do a great coffee called “Boom Shaka Latte”
What do you think of that name?

    • Lol it’s better. But I’m a conservative mind set so simple names get more interest as I see coffee as an art. But the nomenclature used by your company makes it almost feel ghetto like which isn’t my thing.

      • +1

I agree it’s an artful dance with science.

But, why did the coffee-loving artist and the caffeine-addicted scientist argue about nomenclature?

Because the artist insisted on calling it "Java," while the scientist preferred "Caffeineum Scientificus"! They couldn't agree on the proper name for their beloved cup of joe, each embracing a different approach to nomenclature. The artist, with their creative flair, saw coffee as a muse, inspiring their artistic endeavors and deserving of a whimsical name like "Java." On the other hand, the scientist, with their analytical mindset, wanted a more formal and scientific name, envisioning coffee as a complex concoction of molecules that warranted the designation of "Caffeineum Scientificus." Their debate brewed with intensity, but in the end, they realised that no matter what you call it, coffee brings art and science together in a delightful way, fueling creativity and sparking scientific discoveries one sip at a time!

Boom Shaka latte was something that has stuck with me from playing the old NBA JAM many years ago. BBC came from it being a Big (flavour) Black Coffee - designed for espresso.
I don’t know if it makes me an artist.
I know it doesn’t make me the scientist!
I’m not sure if it puts us in the ghetto 😂
We’re just having fun with it.
Not everyone has to like it and everyone is entitled to an opinion.

I know for sure though, the coffee is good, and I know a lot of people that love it ❤️

        • Hahaha.
          Fair call.
I’ll still give it a crack. I might buy from both and see what they taste like.
Ordered 1kg of each to try it out

          • +1

@maverickjohn: Mate, I hope you do because I love sharing what I do and have a passionate team that work with me.
And if you do, I really do appreciate any constructive feedback, good or bad, or just what you think we could improve on - I take everything on board. But I think you’ll be happy 😃 Actually, I think your order might have just popped up. I’ll get that off for you first thing tomorrow. Thank you 😊

            • @BigShotsCoffee: Coffee is one of my biggest enjoyments and happy to buy from you as I can see that you care about the coffee.
I’ll have to just swallow my pride about the naming lol.
Happy to do business with you

              • @maverickjohn: Awesome. I will have some single origins coming very soon and they won’t have any crazy names. I’ll put my scientific nomenclature hat on - promise!

                Thanks again 🙏

  • +1

I do a light roast with an Ethiopian Guji natural that I love as a pour over. It’s a great way to drink coffee. Still hasn’t really caught on here in Adelaide that much.

    • I’ll try that once I finish my one. I currently have a limited edition coffee bean from crema coffee garage. Costs $120/kg but I don’t mind trying unique coffee. I have bought coffee from all over the world l. Including sidra from Colombia. Kona from Hawaii. Blue mountains coffee from Jamaica.
      I’m always exploring.

  • That’s amazing. I’ll checkout crema coffee garage for sure 😊

  • Got your coffee thanks!

    • Awesome! I hope you enjoy it mate!
