Title should mention this is eBay Plus only

  • I’m still in the early stages of looking into it all, but doesn’t an Atmos system need some height channels? Or can two of the surround inputs be used for that?

    • +7

yes its a 5.1.2 configuration in atmos so you assign in the menu to use 2x of the channels for atmos speakers

  • Dang I just bought the Pioneer VSX-935 for $930 last week which is slightly better, if I had waited I could have bought this and saved $200.

  • Good deal for those in the market. My X1300W is still going strong though after almost 7 years, so will pass for now.

    • +1

this is a downgrade for that lol

  • Still waiting for a steep deal on the S660H, don't have room for 7 channels but these seems to be one of very few true HDMI 2.1 AVRs.

  • I bought this for $989 21st Dec 2021

I came from the Yamaha RX-V673.
    Yamaha app was better imo.

I'd get the equivalent Yamaha is I could turn back time

    • +2

In Dec 2021 Yamaha didn't have a proper HDMI 2.1 receiver.

You made the right call at the time, who even uses the apps?

      • For Yamaha, if it is Musicast device. That's super useful if you want to set up music around the house. Only instance I can think of myself.

      • -2

        who even uses the apps?

        People born after 1960?

I have a MusicCast system and everything is controlled via the app. It's multiroom/multizone, streaming etc etc does all the cool stuff and every person in the house can control it from their phone. Why would you not want this?

        • Because I already have it with other apps? Sonos, Chromecast, Airplay… We don't need a new app just for one brand of receiver.

          • @MagnamoniousRex:

Because I already have it with other apps

You said "who even uses the apps?", now you are saying you do?

We don't need a new app just for one brand of receiver.

I prefer the manufacturer provide an app that works with their kit than some third party app that doesn't (ie Sonos, Chromecast, Airplay don't support MusicCast.

            • @1st-Amendment: "The apps" being unnecessary, obscure crapware that does the same thing but worse than mainstream apps that suddenly every AVR manufacturer seems to want to force on people instead of just making their receivers compatible with what people already have.

              • @MagnamoniousRex:

"The apps" being unnecessary, obscure crapware that does the same thing but worse than mainstream apps

Which mainstream apps? I know of no 'mainstream app' that controls a MusicCast system with all the features of the Yamaha app.
And why would any business rely on some other third party to provide their user interface? That would be suicide.

just making their receivers compatible with what people already have.

What if 'what people already have' doesn't have the features you want to make available to your customers? How do you innovate if you can only make stuff that already exists?

                • @1st-Amendment: No mainstream app controls Musiccast because it's pointless proprietary crapware nobody uses except apparently you.

You're so confused it's bizarre. Supporting Airplay isn't any more "suicide" than supporting DTS or Dolby lmao, there are more iPhones and Macs sold in a year than Yamaha sells receivers in their entire existence as a company.

                  • +1

                    @MagnamoniousRex:

it's pointless proprietary crapware nobody uses except apparently you.

Lol, so your solution here is that no-one should ever use any other product other than Apple because you deem it not worthy?

You're so confused it's bizarre. Supporting Airplay isn't any more "suicide" than supporting DTS or Dolby lmao

You are the one who is confused. If I am a company creating and selling hi-fi, why would I outsource my UI control to third party app developers who I have no control over? Yamaha produce an App so that they can control their products. Denon produce and App so that they can control their products. Rinse repeat for every other device manufacturer.

there are more iPhones and Macs sold in a year than Yamaha sells receivers in their entire existence as a company.

Cool what does this have to so with anything? Only top selling device should make apps? Seriously?

You asked "who even uses the apps?"

I just told you who. And your response is 'Yamaha sucks buy Apple?

                    🤡

                    • @1st-Amendment: Apple was an example, I already listed 3 mainstream examples bro.

                      • @MagnamoniousRex:

Apple was an example, I already listed 3 mainstream examples

You mentioned Apple, Sonos and Chromecast.
So according to your logic, no-one should ever buy any other product other than the ones you deem worthy…

You asked "who even uses the apps?""

And I told you. But you seem to be struggling with the idea that different people like to buy and use different products…

  • +2

Word of warning to anyone buying Denon, their app (Heos) is absolutely pathetic. Archaic.

Just switched to Yamaha and theirs is far better.

    • Agreed that it's not brilliant, but it's at least usable and gives you wifi streaming from most major services, without the need for separate dedicated streamer.

What do you see the Yamaha being better at? I have a recent model Marantz amp, but haven't tried a Yamaha amp

      • Heos would crash occasionally for me on multiple devices.

Didn't like how a separate app was required if you wanted to change speaker configuration.

The interface was extremely dated imo.

Maybe those things gave improved since I switched, about a year ago.

No such issues with Yamaha, just much smoother and easier to use imo.

    • Oh man is there an app for an amplifier now?

    • HEOS is a separate app to the Denon App

  • What's the Yamaha equivalent to Denon AVR-S760H?

    • Yamaha RX-V6A

      • +4

RX-V6A is not equivalent, it only supports 24Gbps even after the hardware replacement program.

Full HDMI 2.1 is 40Gbps at minimum and 48Gbps optimally.

If you try to put an uncompressed 120hz signal through the V6A it will just black screen on you.

        The Denon is full 40Gbps.

  • Any update on the Onkyo TX-8390? Is Australia expecting more stock after it dried up in 2021?

  • I was always confused by this model and the AVR-X1700H. They seem practically identical except for 5w of power, a removeable power cable, a Coax output and some button placement. Why 2 different models?

    • Same here. Maybe somewhere in the world only "serious" hi-fi retailers get to sell the AVR-X1700H, and everyone else sells the AVR-S760H.

      Edit:
      AVR-X1700H - Audyssey MultiEQ XT
      AVR-S760H - Audyssey MultiEQ

      Maybe that's it?

  • Amazing features like all Denon receivers. Power output is a bit low though. This is a great entry receiver, for a good price.

  • +1

This seller is selling $2,300 RCA cables.

The description is a bit amusing, they use concepts and words that sounds like they know what they’re talking about but it’s not true. I’ve had a fair bit of experience with EMC.

They have a cheaper set at $1,600 too.

"In the simplest sense, wind is air in motion produced by the uneven heating of the Earth’s surface by the sun. Because our planet is made of various land and water formations, from the severe heights of K2 to the placid Chicago River, it absorbs the sun’s radiation unevenly, creating differences in air pressure and the ensuing movement of air from high-pressure areas to lower ones. Wind is also one of our most valuable natural resources: As an alternative to fossil fuels, wind is plentiful, renewable, widely distributed, clean, produces no greenhouse gas emissions, and uses little land. While wind power may be more important today than ever before, it is by no means a new concept. Representations of ships under sail date as far back as 5500 B.C., while windmills may have been first used in Persia in 200 B.C. Among the classical elements, wind’s close relative, air, is pure, powerful, and fundamentally important to life. In Japanese philosophy, wind is a symbol of all things that grow, expand, and enjoy freedom of movement, in some ways best represented by the human mind. People born under the astrological signs of Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius are thought to have dominant air personalities, marked by kindness and social grace. Of course, wind itself may be the most graceful of all elements. It fans the flames of our deepest passions, dances atop the surfaces of our longest rivers, sings in the rustling of the largest leaves, and carves its initials into our mightiest rocks. The physical effect is often astounding: From the forever-swirling formations of Coyote Buttes in Utah, to the sculpted cypress trees seemingly frozen in time along California’s coast, wind holds a place as one of nature’s most masterful artists."

I've got no idea what this has to do with cables. They are just lots of words put together

  • I have this but I’ve had so many CEC issues. The devices keep fighting for control and it’s not passing the correct input name to my LG C1

    • I have the 660H (2 less channels) and have had no CEC problems with my LG C1. All the inputs just work when activated, I was surprised how easy it was. My previous Pioneer had problems though.

    • +1

Thanks for confirming, I'll stick with my old non hdmi2.1 Yamaha 781 for my C1. Been waiting for ages for Yamaha to release a proper HDMI 2.1 receiver that's not a few grand

  • denon is a great brand, i use to have an awesome setup, but it took up too much space. now i have a premium sound bar, but really miss my old denon and all the speakers.

  • i still have a my luxman stereo amp. is it worth upgrading to this?

  • https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364346243033 There are still 2 quantities remaining for purchase
