  • Sucks up. Lol

I like that too with my head spinning around but not that fast like 135000 rpm

Was 820ish last time from eBay?

Will be a good deal if tgg has another 15% off site wide

    • +6

That was the V15. Not the Gen5. This is the lowest it's been in I believe a year. Time to go price match JB and use the discount cards.
Finally, been waiting for the Gen5 to be around this price.

      • You should wait a bit.

Guessing JB may have a wicked Wednesday sales again soon.

        Big diff b/w v15 Vs gen5?

      • +8

Nope.. The Gen5 Detect was available earlier this year for $920 from Ebay (dyson store)

      • This JB Hi-Fi deal ends on Sunday 9 July

  • +4

Got one of these at $921 a couple of months back. Massive upgrade on my old V8. Battery easily lasts a large single story house with mix of tiles and carpet.

    • How long does it run on maximum mode? Looking to replace my dreame v11.

      • +3

Not recommend to run max mode all the time, unless you want to kill the battery.

      • You don’t run it on max. It detects the surface you’re on and adjusts accordingly when you’re in auto mode. Better for the battery too.

Overall it runs for 50 minutes on 4 carpet bedrooms and the rest of the house with tiles.

      • 6-7 minutes

    • Same here, looking to replace my v10 absolute.

  • +1

Got this for $921 last deal. Replaced my ancient Dyson. It is bloody awesome, no regrets.

  • +2

Upgraded from V6 Absolute. Complete game changer. The only downside is that I can't find an additional battery at a reasonable price (even Dyson website has been out of stock for a while).

    • +1

      I'm still rocking the v6 😎

Do the accessories fit from the v6?

      • +2

No and emptying bin in the v6 is pain in the ass, at least get v7.

        • +1

Haha yeah for sure but you know it still works.

I'll get the gen15 when the v6 carks it but i mean emptying a bucket is meh/easy, wouldn't bother with an interim v7

          • @Kammi: Why wait till then, dyson got good resale value before any cracks.

          • @Kammi: if you hate emptying, I would keep an eye out for the Samsun Bespoke Jet deals. I got mine . Its attachments and brush head are slightly less nice compared to dyson but the auto emptying station is an absolute game changer. you need to use disposable bags but they cost like $2 each and I'm still on the first bag it came with since I bought it in October.

I bought via this deal before https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/728500 but sales come on relatively frequently for 700-800 bucks. No regrets

            • +1

@alebox: Idm emptying, I don't think i could use a bag vac! Way too much hassle

              • @Kammi: its actually not a bag vac in the handheld. its a normal hand held just like the dyson and looks the same (ie you can do it manually if you want). you then stand it vacuum in a stand and this doubles as the auto emptying machine (you can see youtube vids. the stand is what contains the bag and disposable (ive used it for 9 (7 really since i was away) months in the apartment and havent needed to refresh the bag yet)

my wife is allergic to dust mites so not having it fluff back out in the air every time i need to empty it was a huge boon for us.

      • Yea me too, ive replaced the floorhead from amazon no name brand and still going strong after 9years

      • Powered accessories do not fit, different voltage and fitting.

Unpowered ones will fit with an adapter from eBay or Amazon.

I got this one, works great

  • +3

Is the Gen5 worth it over the V15?

  • +2

Wait so when dyson said they were replacing my broken v11 with a v15. The v15 is not the latest model?

    • +2

      Gen5 is the latest model

    • +2

Seems like you got a good deal either way?

  • +1

    This vs robo rock?

    • I am in the same boat

    • +2

      Roborock

    • Both but roborock first if you have to.

    • Roborock stick or robot?

  • This is about what I paid a month or two ago.. bloody great vacuum, kind of horrifying how much it picks ip compared to the old stick and corded ones we had though.

  • +1

Do I cancel my V15 order ($829.60) and get this instead? :'(

  • +1

You probably want to try it out first at the shop. I found it to be a bit impractical because of the bin size and weight, especially when not using the stick.

I ended up getting the Samsung Bespoke Jet. Comes with 2x batteries and empties the bin!

  • Thanks for posting this!

With the cashback works out well. Been looking for this to drop back near this level!

    • Which Cashback you going with?

      • Just the Cashrewards 2%

  • +1

Any idea why the JB HI FI listing for the GEN5 Detect has 2022 in the product title? Is there a 2023 upgraded model of the GEN5 coming out or already out, perhaps they tweaked something over last years model?

    Thanks

  • Why did they have to ruin the naming convention. Couldn’t they have named this V16 or something chronological

    • Couldn’t they have named this V16 or something chronological

It's never been a great naming scheme anyway, especially if you were expecting incremental improvements in each generation like you get with iPhones/Galaxies.

With Dyson vacuums, there was no V9, V13, V14, but all other numbers from V6 to V15 were used.

Not to mention other differences like how the V12 is equal in suction power to the V10, but less than the V11.

      • it was in increments for a while, there was a V9 motor but was only used in the supersonic hairdryers, they ruined the numbering system as you said with the V12 and v15 (v12 using a v10 motor) and v15 skipping the other numbers.

  • V15 is the last production model of Gen 4 motor. This Gen5 is the first model using well.. gen 5 motor. Better performance but imo the biggest difference in operation is that this model no longer use a trigger and use a dedicated on/off button instead (not a fan of where it's positioned at the moment, I'm guessing they'll reposition it somewhere in future models).

  • +2

Cheaper by $10 if you click "check live price button"
    And another $60 store cash
    Plus potentially cashback

If cashback applicable potentially the cheapest so far!

Or pay with discounted gift cards to bring it further down

    • Is this button on the JB or Good Guys site?

    • I didnt see the button mate could you point out its location on the website?

  • I think it's better to ask for a price match from Dyson and buy directly from them. I had better experience with repairs and replacement parts for my vacuum machine with them than the retailers.

    • You can buy from gg, deal with dyson for repairs? Costco would be even better.

  • +2

are dyson vacuums becoming like mobile phones where theres a new model stick every yeaar

    • Those types of people wouldn’t be on ozbargain

      • As someone who upgrades way too often, I’m definitely on Ozbargain.

  • Sub $900 previously with eBay gift cards. Directly from Dyson.

    Great bit of kit.

Wondering if the oversize will affect the regulars price

  • +2

I got the Gen5 complete set. Great vacuum but it is really heavy.

  • +1

Tempting but any deal on complete model?

  • If anyone wants a cheaper alternative, the Ryobi stick vacuum is excellent.Even better value if you already have heavy duty batteries. There's been a few iterations I think, and the older ones got bad reviews - but I love my current gen. $460 with 1 battery and some kit.

  • It is heavier - but just so good and much much quieter than the v11 we had before

  • Went into JB earlier and had them price match, then used 15% off gift cards I had been saving.

Used it for the first time earlier coming from a V8 Animal. Holy moly, night and day between the V8 and Gen5.

    • +1

      Price match with who?

      • The JB in Alexandria forgot that the price was 999 as well. They had to double check lol

  • If your gf//mum/wife does the cleaning, just make sure to test it at the store b4 buying as it's much heavier than a v8.

Australia and UK are the only markets still gullible enough to pay the super-inflated prices for Dyson's mediocre products. Dyson is only living from their commitment to their marketing budget and pretty coloured plastics but the actual functionality and quality of product "sucks" - buy this stick for 1k, pay another $200 for a battery 12 months later, then get a new head in 14 months then start thinking if maybe its best to drop another 1k as yours is 3 models old now - that is the Dyson customer life cycle that less and less customers are willing to be a part of.

    • +2

Come on now, they are certainly not mediocre products and I'm sure many can attest to that.
      Especially their Gen5 Detect
Wrt your other part replacement points: Australian warranty covers all of that.

  • Same price on JB commercial so no extra discount there it seems.

  • Final a half decent price

These don’t seem to have the issues that Samsung has

  • Can anyone comment on how this would compare to an older DC23 corded version? I need to replace the turbo head so wondering if I just get a whole new unit instead?

I've got get plush carpets in the bedrooms so need a really strong suction unit.

    • The new heads seem to be better at picking up finer dust and the batteries now run long enough for most people. There is enough power in this model to equal a mains powered model.
It’s just easier and quicker being able to grab the cordless vac and not worry about cords and plugging in.

      • This! I have the V8 Animal and a DC39. 3 days since getting the Gen5, the V8 has already been given to the in-laws and I don't think we'll be getting the DC39 out, especially when the suction power is I believe greater than even the plug-in DC39.

  • TGG nunawading didn’t allow me to convert my Home cards to a TGG gift card and buy online.
    Deal breaker :(

    • You could of used the time cards in store

      • They offer $60 store credit back if bought online.

        • +1

          nice what dedication

lets buy $1000 home card or everyone card next time when it's on special
