  • Forerunner 945 is a very good watch, I can highly recommend it! Multisport and open water swimming work very well. Haven't tried the 955 or 965 though, not sure if I could justify the price difference for now.

I have the 945 and it is a great watch with close to 24 hours battery life with full gps tracking. The 955 adds a few extra metrics and slightly better battery life whilst the 965 adds an AMOLED screen. However they are more expensive and at $499 this is a great price.

      • I agree, I got my 945 for $350 on marketplace and is still going strong. Whenever it dies I'll get whatever is the second most recent version, I really like the long battery life.

        • Also 945 is $399 on Amazon right now!!

945 is great, rebel price matched those online stores for $500. Don't think most people would need anything better or you'd be paying $800-1000.

  • If anyone is curious, Bupa discount on Garmin does not stack with this.

    • Not even an option on AIA Vitality with their 25% of Garmin devices.

These devices and Plantation Shutters gotta be the most marked up items on the planet.

  • I loved my Garmin 935 but when it died this year I crossed over to Coros as it's hard to justify the price of Garmin's. Can get a Pace 2 for $300, multi week battery, most of the key features. It's missing a few things I liked but I can live without for the money difference. Garmin withholding long battery life to only top models stinks in my opinion. Though if I could have found a 945 at the time for $499 it may have been a harder decision.

    • I've been really pleased with my 935 and 945, but admittedly have only bought them when around half rrp. Fortunately deals like this seem to come up relatively often.

    • Ok so I'm in that situation now. I'm just getting back into running with half marathon in Sydney. I'm looking for a more slim-fit watch so Pace 2 or 945?

  • Ideally i'd like a Garmin to use for soccer. I have a 245 forerunner right now and its meh. I know their primary focus is more on things like running, but are other Garmins better suited to things like soccer? If so which? Any help appreciated.

    • Is there much use for a watch to track soccer as an activity anyway?… I use my 245 for soccer too, but never really bother starting an activity because I don't know what I'd get out of it besides comparative heartrate and steps.

      • Heatmap. Heartrate. Distance. Average speed. Top speed. Off the top of my head.
While it can do some of that - its obviously not designed for that. But yeah - Garmin watches i know are mostly aimed at Tri rather than a specific sport like soccer. I was hoping for an answer of something like 'model X has this feature which is good/better for soccer'. But that may not exist…

  • You can use cardio mode.
