    For anyone wondering:

    • 10x = 5% of the gift card’s value returned to you in the form of Everyday Rewards points
    • 20x = 10% of the gift card’s value returned to you in the form of Everyday Rewards points

Even a higher value if you convert to Qantas and use it wisely!

  • Would love some discount steam gift cards eh

  • the bad thing about gift cards is we can't consolidate them. Always left with a few $ in a few cards that can't be spent, eg restaurant gift cards. There goes your $5 saving on a $100 card for a 5%. How do people spend these?

Do split payments no problem. Never had a restaurant refuse to let me use more than one gift card to pay. This is different to bill spliting.

I can get mine down to under $1 easy (always multiple $1 fast food offers), but using those last few cents up is the problem. Places like Macca's don't allow split payment unless part of the amount paid is with cash. I used to split payment at Domino's but they have a card surcharge now when paying in store which it makes it annoying. Will use mine up at the local Indian restaurant if needed, which they allow.

I have 10x gift cards with $1-3. I bring them and leave them as tips for restaurants which deserve the tip

    • Seems easier to just stick with the HSBC tap-and-pay 2% cashback instead…

      • So use that to buy the gift card and get extra off?

        • I suppose so – I just find I often forget to use the card and/or forget how much is on the card. Even if I do know the balance, it's annoying explaining to the cashier how much to charge – is it with surcharge? Oh, it's declined? 🙄

Given you can't even add this one to your mobile wallet, I'd be even more likely to forget it, since I don't usually carry my wallet. Do you know how many times I've visited Coles especially to use my Flybuys Dollars, only to forget my damn Flybuys card? 😅🤦‍♂️

  • Wow, AirBNB is 10 x EDR.

    Father's Day back in 2022 was 20 x EDR.

    • They do 10% off AirBNB every couple months.

TRC 5%? are you kidding me?!

5% for EOFY on their site and now 5% at Woolies… unfortunately I'm in need of a top up and just gonna have to settle for a discount lower than the standard 10% by buying them with Amazon gift cards, been buying so much junk food lately and about to run out haha.

Sadly TCN Restaurant discounts have been non-existent for a while, and there hasn't been a 10% or more discount for TRC now for months. The offers were so much better around this time last year.

    I wouldn't touch any x10 deals with a 10 foot pole.

A couple of points that will address questions a number of people have asked me recently:

    • I have only seen an eftpos version of the Restaurant Choice gift card sold at Woolworths in recent times. The eftpos version currently cannot be added to a mobile wallet nor cannot be exchanged for a Visa version (and the Visa version can be added to a mobile wallet).

    • The eftpos version of the Restaurant Choice gift card cannot be redeemed at any merchant using Square terminals (even if the merchant uses a MCC whitelisted on the gift card), because Square refuses to process payments on the eftpos network if you swiped the card. Square will still happily process payments for other card networks (e.g. Visa, Mastercard) if you swiped the card.
