I wish they didn't look like motorcycle helmets.

Just paint it in Boba Fett colours

Maybe you need a new motorcycle helmet.

LOL! Jokes aside, I think the main issue with these cookers is they very big and heavy relative to the pot inside.

If you have a small kitchen and/or like to store your rice cooker in the pantry after use then I recommend having a look in-store before you purchase.

      • I'm actually serious. Being the stereotypical Asian, I have the rice cooker out all the time and as much as I want to get an IH pressure rice cooker, they all look hideous. The newest Cuckoo has finally come out in Australia and looks okay..but a thousand bucks.

    • Or an alarm clock.

Excellent machines. Both of mine have been going strong for ten years.

  • Anyone got recommendations on which model is the best value for money. The induction pressure like this does seem great.

Also we have a 10cup Panasonic currently and have only done more than 5 cups once. It struggles to do 2 cupd well so hopefully a 6 cup model would even do 1 cup well?

    • 6 cup then and you will be fine if you don’t need that much regularly.

Most rice cookers are 2 cup minimum thou? Are you sure you are using enough in your Panasonic.

    • Sounds like there's either something wrong with your Panasonic unit, or the amount of water that you put in may be incorrect? We've always used a rice cooker and never had issues, even with 4+ cups.

      • Sorry, the issue is doing low amounts of rice, but high amounts.

It seems like this is an issue with most rice cookers, which makes sense.

        • Oh apologies, misunderstood… yeah I think you'll find most machines do 2 cups minimum.

(Perhaps cook a bit more, and save some for fried rice :D)

    • I've done one cup with this and its fine

That's what the two girls said

  • For some reason, these cuckoo rice cookers will only work well with 2 cup minimum.

  • I gather it's expensive because of pressure cooking features, if you just want to cook rice, they have cheaper models to do just that.

Also, pressure cooking rice is not necessarily faster overall, while actual cooking time is shorter, but it requires time to build up/release pressure.

  • What is the benefit this one has over the traditional one that can be had for $170 at Costco?

    • I think one of the major selling factors is that it heats the whole pot evenly (induction) compared to other rice cookers that just heat from the base.

    • Pressure and induction.

    • That one often goes on sale for $130. It doesn't have pressure cooking functions, so if you just want a decent cooker to cook rice, get that one.

I'm sure some people swear by end high rice cookers, but like many things once it has been more or less perfected, the price increases significantly for a little bit of improvement that may or may not be noticeable.

  • How long does it take to cook white/brown rice ? Mine (Tiger brand) takes more than 1 hour (for brown rice)

Bought this last night, was holding out hoping for a 20% cashback all categories to reorder it but looks like they've exhausted their stock allocation for this deal.

  • Back in stock for $391.30

Bought this and received the 10cup CRP-CHSS1009FN from Amazon.

    • How did that happen!

      • Think they just sent the wrong one. Was looking to maybe change down with someone but looked at the spec the dimensions are too much bigger than the 6 cup.

    • 🤔

      • EDIT
Just arrived and like like I got myself the 10cup too

        • That's awesome, still waiting for mine. I imagine the 10 cup version would be pretty hefty and takes up a lot of space?

          • @fortunecookie: Yeap some quick maths and it's about 30% bigger volume wise.

    • OMG, same thing happened to me! Wonder if there are others?

      • Haha everyone getting an upgrade.

    • Still hasn't been shipped. ETA - Tue. Fingers crossed.

      • I just got email from Amazon AU saying the new ETA is 1st of August.

        • ETA is tomorrow. I think I'll also get an ETA change. Hope they won't cancel it. The comments for the seller say that they'd cancelled in the past.

          • @Schrodinger: Same here. It is delivered today instead and I also received the 10 cup version.

            • @jetcat: @jetcat finally got a shipment notification. ETA on Monday - very likely the 10 cup model.

Has anyone checked if there are any differences?
According to the manuals I only found that the 10 cup model has sushi rice option instead of black bean rice and less preassure - 0.88bar vs 0.98 bar. Apart from higher wight, power and size of course.

EDIT: +NFC function in 10 cup model

              • @Schrodinger: NFC function is useless because the app isn't compatible with latest versions of Android :(

    • Also received 10 cup instead today. Did everyone keep the 10 cup? Did you receive invoice for 10 cup instead of 6 cup?

  • It looks like I was late. It is $722.10 now. Sad

  • My Cuckoo CRP-DHSR0609F was delayed and was scheduled to be delivered today - Tues 1 Aug. It still haven't even been shipped yet..

    • +1

I'm in the same situation for this item - expected 1 August.

Also have several other sold by Amazon US items where "Carrier picked up the package" and it went past the delivery date and status is now "Delayed, not yet shipped". Likely they'll just cancel the orders & refund after I've already waited several weeks. Not happy Amazon…

    • Mine is showing as 'not yet shipped' and doesn't even have an ETA…
