Honestly, I think the best value from the high tier roborocks is when they’re used in conjunction with their ultra docks (auto emptying and mop cleaning). This Costco deal is a ripper - $2,079.99 for the S8 Pro Ultra (vacuum + ultra dock).

But $999 for a stand-alone is also a fantastic price. It appears that the S8 is incompatible with the S7 dock, and it will not be possible to buy standalone docks in future (Source: apparently confirmed with roborock customer support.)

Key differences between the S7 MaxV and S8 is that the S8 has improved suction power (6,000 pA), a new dual-roller head for improved dirt/pet pickup, is quieter, and is camera free. Note that you’re best off looking at reviews for these as apparently not everything is an improvement.

So i have S8 already, can i buy the ultra dock later to make it a combo?

    • +1

Technically yes. But I did some digging in writing this post and it doesn’t appear to be easy to buy the S8 Ultra Dock standalone atm. Maybe it will be available later. I know you have perviously been able to buy the S7 Ultra Dock standalone.

Example, S7 wash fill dock standalone, about $900 in previous deal.

      • I will be patiently waiting. I dont need the dock now but i will buy it in a year or two.

        • According to Reddit and roborock customer support, there’s no intention to make the standalone dock available.
Also, the S7 is incompatible with the S8 dock, and the S8 is incompatible with the S7 dock (due to size of brush rollers).

I dont think so, here is why https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cghMr7uN6vI

  • I dont think you can adedd the "Ultra Dock" to this robot, the dock needs the "Roborock S8 Pro Ultra robotic vacuum and mop cleaner"

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cghMr7uN6vI

  • Which model is the best for mopping?

  • I would still go with S7 MaxV with auto empty dock which is just a bit more at this price point.

Docking for mop is a lot less useful than dust collection so the top end dock is not a absolute requirement. However, dust emptying is really something related to your health when you are emptying the dust bin and you have to do it every other day if you don’t have the dock so it’s better to get the auto empty dock instead.

Camera is not really a big concern you are only at risk when the robot is moving around. I would be more worried about your indoor security camera which is on all the time.

There is also a review online noted S7 MaxV is actually cleaning better than S8 Pro despite lower suction power (but has stronger airflow) and dual roller is worse in catching hairs…….newer model doesn’t necessarily mean better in this case…..

    • The S7 MaxV doesnt have the Automatic brush lifting, suction level on S7 is 5500 Pa while on S8 is 6000 Pa

      • I've already mentioned the suction vs airflow point. and the brush lifting difference is well……….. noted.

and don't forget we're comparing one with auto empty dock and one without….. The differences you mentioned is nothing when considering dock vs no dock.

      • I think obstacle avoidance is most important, what is the point of dock if it gets tan led in wires etc. You can't run it for 30 days like that.

  • IMHO I would now never buy a robo vac without the auto empty dock feature. Game changer. The idea of the robo vac is convenience. The auto empty dock does exactly that. and never the risk of the robo vack dust bin being tipped out accidently.

  • How good is obstacle avoidance? Can it avoid wires and small hazards

    • It relies on AI and its 86% confident for cables/wires in my house in one of the areas. Other obstacle detection confidence is over 80% for all other obstacles. Pretty good imho but ymmv.

  • Is this the same model? seems to be 926$ delivered

  • Anyone with Roborock mop vacuum, adds any cleaning liquid to water reservoir or just plain water? I like to add some sort of cleaning liquid if there's one suggested.
