  • My V1 broke so bought this yesterday. Arriving today, hopefully just a drop in replacement.

    • My V1 broke

      How?

      • Kept freezing on bootup.

        • Replace camera's battery would fix it?

        • You just need to reflash the firmware

          • @plmko: Did this already. It was a faulty ribbon cable, which I replaced and worked for a short while before breaking again

        • My V1 broke

Mine did this after I removed the sd card while it was running. Thought it was broken but it came back to life after I discharged it fully (it uses a capacitor instead of a battery). Been working like a champ since then.

          • @umexcuseme: Still did it after days of being discharged. Trust me, I tried everything I could have within my means.

I've been hanging out for a deal for a while now.
Really hoping something will come up for the Duo Plus.

  • +2

Likewise, but I gave up :)

From the previous posts. Copy and paste as many found it useful.

I made a couple of short videos for those who is interested in quality of recording:
    1. Early morning drive, sun directly at camera: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMn35KhJDfM
    2. Parking mode test. People detection: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDoD2q3YWcs
    3. Parking mode test. Car detection: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fG_Ig2v-3ho

Yes, I had to purchase a hardwire kit..
Have it for 2 years now, no regrets.
    Hope helps someone…

Makes me think I need a hardwire kit for mine.

      • +3

Only if you would like to use parking mode people and cars detection. I thought it is small price to pay for such great functionality and neat set up. One thing is to remember, if you wire it yourself, to fully understand airbags location and make sure your installation does not impede their functionality. Safety obvious reasons aside, in unlikely event of crash insurance company certainly will refuse pay out if they will find out that it was caused by car modification.

Safety obvious reasons aside, in unlikely event of crash insurance company certainly will refuse pay out if they will find out that it was caused by car modification.

Is that the case even if you use hardwire kit? What's the solution for this not to happen?

          • @virhlpool: Either install it professionally or do a good job. Sadly in either case there is no guarantee when it comes to insurance. Most of them will look into everything to refuse a claim.

            • @Kapitoshka: Okay, insurance will do whatever they can to get out of paying for something, however they are not sending out an assessor to pull apart your dash to make sure your dash cam was wired correctly. The chances of them denying an insurance claim because of something like a dash cam hardwire kit is slim to none.

          • +2

@virhlpool: i bought HK3 hardwire kit for mine and ran it up the A-frame on passenger behind the curtain airbag then up along the roof liner. Only gripe that i had withe the HK3 is that the ferrite bead is quite chunky and was quite difficult to pass through some places, especially the roof liner where it kind of pushes it out a bit.

  • Anyone knows what's theeasiest way to remove the base from the windshield?

    • +5

      dental floss

    • +2

Heat it up with a hair dryer and take it off buy hands. Use orange oil spray/goo remover to remove excess…or park in the sun and do the same

    • -1

Mine came with some electrostatic sticker. It says attach it to the wind screen before attaching the camera and it'll allow easy removal.

I am yet to attach camera but it gives me good hope.

Having said that, my other car had a dead camera and I simply can't take off the stupid base attached to the screen. I guess it is going to stay there :/

      Details: https://support.viofo.com/support/solutions/articles/1900012…

      • -1

I just installed my A129 and the electrostatic sticker was completely useless, just fell off with the dashcam even when the windscreen was alcohol wiped.

        • +1

I got neg just because I stated what was sold. Don't kill the messenger guys.

        • Just installed two in my cars and electrostatic sticker worked like a charm! Easy to tried removing the camera and it was super easy.

If someone needs instructions slash pics, pm me.

          • @Seni0r El Cheapo: I got neg just because I stated what my experience was. Don't kill the messenger guys.

(Btw I wasn't even the one who negged you, and instead gave you a +1 for your second message)

  • Thanks op. Been looking at a deal cam for a while and this brand seems to be the choice of ozb. Looking for a hardwire kit and sd card now if anyone has recommendations.

  • +2

    i love a bad segue….

just like the creator of this video!

Linus Tech Tip's video on dashcams
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AnyhHl3_tE&vl=en

very relevant to this deal. (tl;dw - just about all dashcams, even the name brands, have similar image quality / use same socs and sensors. this viofo is the pick)

also if you want a dual dashcam, two 119v3s may be better than a dual dashcam

    • +1

two 119s instead of dual channel - why didnt I think of that!
      more reliable, easier to swap
      better quality image too!

  • +1

Where are the deals for a139 pro?!

  • +2

For those that get front cameras, do you not bother with rear or do you buy separate ones?

    • +1

i didnt bother with rear as the A119 V2 i had comes with a g-sensor that would engage emergency recording more when trigged. I figured that would be enough to in case of a rear end

      • +3

Yeah, just no footage of what actually happened and evidence (like rego) of who it was.

    • +1

I have a separate dashcam for my vehicle (ute with a canopy) and my wife has an all-in-one unit for her SUV.

      • -4

        wife… SUV … (◔_◔)🙄

        • Its a "medium SUV" if that makes any difference to your eyer roll. It isn't a BMW X5 if that is what you are thinking.

  • Thanks, Father's day/Chrissy present sorted :D

  • Has anyone put this camera as front cam in Merc? Can I install it on my own as DIY or do I need to take to mechanic/dealership for installation.

    • All Dashcams should be DIY install.

    • can DIY. im sure people have used it on a merc

      • Yes. I did its very easy

    • +1

You can DIY if you are just plugging into the cig socket, if you are hardwiring then you need a multimeter, soldering iron(if you want to do it properly - an alternative are those bridging clips you can buy, but I avoid those), sparky tape and a pair of side cutters.

  • Got one thanks OP.

  • any advice on a front and rear dashcam? need a set for the new car. This deal looks good, but I wont rear facing as well.

    • A129 Pro comes with a rear facing camera.

  • oh.. you can only buy 1 at that price

  • +1

I bought the hardwire kit when I bought the camera, but haven't been able to find a decent video that helps me connect it. Help from anyone who's done it or have found a good video would be much appreciated.

    • +2

You want black to go to a ground point - find a screw or bolt that goes into the chassis of the vehicle - where that is depends on the vehicle you have. Yellow is for accessories so the dash cam knows when you've actually turned your car on, the usual recommendation is to splice that into your cig socket as that will turn on when your car turns on(NB not all cars have their cig sockets turn off when the car is turned off - refer to multimeter to confirm). Red is your constant 12v feed so you want to find a wire that has 12v power at all times even when the car is turned off.

It is advisable you have a multimeter(and the knowledge to use it) for this process so you can ensure you are splicing to the correct wires.

    • Try obd cable

  • can anyonw recommend a good SD card for this?

    • +1

      google high endurance

    • +1

I've used the samsung endurance ones in the past with great success

  • Have never used dashcam before. Do I only need one? Also are is there anything else that I absolutely must buy with it? Like an sd card?

    • +1

It might give you some evidence in the case of car accident, high endurance micro sd card which last longer in the loop recording environment, hard wiring or obd wiring kit to enable park recording, cpl filter for minimised glare.

  • All coupons exhausted.

    • they're back

  • Isn't the A119 Mini better? (Bluetooth and dual band wifi)

    • Yes, I saw this deal yesterday but I am going to wait for a mini

I'm assuming with this model you need to remove SD card from dashcam to review footage?
I'm sure they are a good camera but how is that worth buying in 2023

  • +1

I agree with LTT on this topic. How can dash cams got about as good as this one and then basically stop improving?

    • Because of how dynamic the lighting can be, its hard to deal with the constantly changing contrast of the landscape in front of a moving car.

  • +1

    It's $125.59 again.

  • +2

Not expired, just bought one for $125.59.

  • What are the proper parking mode settings for this?

  • How long do the batteries last?

    • what battery?

    • This runs off your cigarette plug.
It doesn't have an internal battery.

      • Correct, it has a capacitor inside of it that has enough power to save the file so it doesn’t corrupt when you turn the car off.

You can also hardwire it into the car to record while parked

      • oh. so you have a wire going through cigarette plug to your windshield?

        • Yes. Wire to your cigarette plug is the easiest way.
