Hostplus Super - Claiming Deduction after-Tax Super Contributions

Last year, I've made after-tax super contributions to my Hostplus Super account (FYI: https://moneysmart.gov.au/grow-your-super/super-contribution…)

I've already filled out the ATO form 'Notice of intent to claim or vary a deduction for personal super contributions' and sent it via post.

I sent it after the end of the financial year… In fact, about 3 days afterwards.

I have heard nothing back from them. I've also had trouble doing this last year with them. They haven't got back to my emails either. Why do they take so long?

  • Has anyone with Hostplus been successful with this?
  • If you're not with Hostplus but have been successful with this, who are you with?

Yes, I've done this more than once. The money has to reach them well before EOFY. IIRC the declaration has to be submitted before EOFY as well, not 3 days after. Did you call them?

When to give your notice of intent
You must give a notice of intent to claim or vary a deduction to your fund by the earlier of either the:
    - day you lodge your tax return for the year in which you made the contributions
    - end of the income year following the one in which you made the contributions.

Your fund must send you a written acknowledgment, telling you they have received a valid notice from you. You must receive the acknowledgment from your fund before you claim the deduction on your tax return.

Maybe just give them 2-3 weeks. This is a busy time for them. You have time till you file your tax returns.

Mine was already pre-filled in the tax return form… So obviously it had been processed.

  • Have you tried calling them? I'm sure they've got a whole stack of emails to go through for end of financial year stuff.

You should have emailed it through to [email protected]. Did ours and got the letter in the mail saying all done.

    • I did that last year and got no response, followed up many times, still no response… leading to a complaint email. So this year I thought I'd try mailing it in physically, old school style.
