The 5500 seems like a good deal, might upgrade from my 3200

  • Same reason I found it - got an older sony unit in my car and wanted a android auto compatible one

  • Car audio noob here. What else extra do I need to purchase to install one of these into an old Car (Civic 8th gen? 2008)

I assume a double din frame, and any thing else?

  • I picked up a 9 inch Ekiy EK7 3G 32G from aliexpress for $270 and my god it's amazing. Wireless carplay/android auto. Came with a shroud to suit the car and was plug and play. $70 and a lot of installation and I will have 360 degree cameras.

I'd consider one of these, turned my old triton into a tesla.

    • I had read about the ali express units lying about android version and is in the video there is a comment about it being Android 8 and not 10 which is very old. If true I am guessing that eventually apps will require api level >26 which won't be compatible with that unit anymore.

Still tempted. How does the capacitive screen feel? Does it go in a lot when you touch it?

      • Nah it feels like a high end android tablet, glass screen, very responsive. This "Ekiy" band is one of the better ones. "Teyes" is probably the best chinese android head unit but costs a bit more and the Ekiy seems to be about the same thing.

I'm not too bothered about the android version if I'm honest and I haven't checked too see if it is legit. As long as android auto works flawlessly and the reverse camera is good that is all that matters to me. I don't really use the native apps at all.

This doesn't matter - the apps run on your phone, through Android Auto. All the headunit has to do is be an Android Auto receiver, and even the earliest Android Auto units still do that just fine 👍

AX8100 doesn't do wireless carplay/android auto and it looks very different as it's a 1din unit with the screen sticking out.

Personal preference but my car is already wired for a Sony head unit and I'm just upgrading for android auto

Wireless is good if your car also has a wireless charger else you still need to plugged in as Android auto drain your phone battery.
