Mad Catz R.A.T. 4+ Optical Gaming Mouse $9 in-Store @ JB Hi-Fi

580

Ordered one but haven't picked it up yet. I have no idea about this mouse but for $9 I just bought it for fun. Looks pretty stupid though.

Link doesn't work anymore. Could be a price error?

  • +7

Price error for sure. And link is gone. Someone is spying on ozbargain.

    • +2

You're right, that was fast. I was sitting on this for a few days.

  • Damn, link not working anymore

I had a wired version of these years ago and mainly used it at office. It was pretty great to be honest.

It was at that price for about a week now. Stock was limited to click and collect only. No delivery options.

Mad Catz = Crap quality gaming gear.

"Optical" is still a selling point for some reason to Mad Catz. TBH I might buy a quality ball mouse just for the nostalgia, if only it were possible.

    • I had a mad catz ps1 controller and memory card back in the day. All failed soon after.

Back in 2011, I bought a Mad Catz Rat9. This is 12 years ago… either the naming conventions are whack or this mouse is extremely old!!!!

  • Anyone have a screenshot of the webpage?

    • +7

add "cache:" before the URL and you should be able to see an old version of the page

Thanks, I tried Archive.org and there were no snapshots available.

      • Holy crap dude that is an amazing tip! Thanks!

        • +2

          No worries!
It used to be a lot better and you wont always have a snapshot, I think google stopped being as thorough with their caching, but its useful in a pinch

  • People hate on these but i used to have a wireless one and until it died (3 odd years of use) it was the best mouse i've ever owned. Looks weird but super adjustable and comfortable

  • damn i need ozbargain on auto refresh

  • My friend had one of these about 7 years ago. Started malfunctioning within weeks.

  • My hand hurts just looking at it.

Looks like someone stepped on that mouse

Seems we have a spy amongst our ranks

Damn this brand really went to the gutter.

    • They were only ever good for their fighting sticks.

Their gamepad & mice have always been overpriced or cheap garbage.

Man, I had a hard time fending off all the girls when I had this bad boy in high school.

Is this the mouse your friend gives you when you visit his house?

  • Is it an Autobot or Depticon variety?

Loved my RAT back when it first launched. That was an awful long time ago now.
Can't imagine using something like that now, especially since things like the Logitech G-Pro X Superlight exist.

  • I'm still using my R.A.T. 9, awesome mouse, just keeps going. My expensive ones are trouble from the start and die 2 days after warranty expires …. looking at you Corsair Cark Core CE

    • what about the battery though, it doesn't hold a charge anymore, so it's useless now.

      • The R.A.T.9 still holds its charge in both batteries without issue, just had a long session with it playing High on Life.

The Corsair had connection drop issues from the start, eventually the battery stopped holding charge after a year or so and I had to permanatly hook up its cable. Even after that the damn thing would drop connection at least once every few days.

Even my 2 old Logitech G7's hold more charge than the new Corsair.

  • I got a pair of new Rat 8s on clearance recently to replace my aging one. The main benefit is that they are so much more comfortable for some people (like me) with their weird looks and super adjustable frame.
