Manually Transfer Min. 100,000 Flybuys Points to Velocity Frequent Flyer, Get Bonus 2,000 Flybuys Points & 4,000 Velocity Points

30

Noticed this hiding in my Flybuys account, I've been collecting points for a while but haven't been converting points to Velocity. Problem is all of the promos are for turning on auto transfer which would convert all of my Flybuys points to Velocity but this is finally a bonus for manual transfer. Not gigantic but better than nothing. I'm not sure if this is targeted or something that shows up if you have over 100, 000 points, or varying amounts based on your balance.

  • Can Velocity points be transferred out to something else?

You can buy gift vouchers or products from online stores, the usual frequent flyer point purchases, but not recommended as it's terrible value. You really should be converting to Velocity with the intention or purchasing reward seats on flights.

      • Of course, but it's just that there may not be a good reward seats available.

If you aren’t using for flights, I think coles $ are better.

Qantas hotels have good deals but velocity hotels are poor value

        • I've booked a number of flights recently (domestic travel) and found quite good reward seat availability when Qantas has had none, even booking closer to the departure date. With that said always better to book as far in advance as possible for a better chance.

You can transfer to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer at 1.55:1. It's not as good as redeeming directly with Virgin, but there's often better redemption options when booking direct with Singapore Airlines.

I recently burned ~290k velocity points to fly from Melbourne to India in business with a few days in Singapore on the way over. To pay for the flights it would've cost me ~$7.5k. At around 2.6c per Velocity point, it was decent value.

If on the other hand you want a cheap flight from Sydney to Melbourne, that will cost you around 16k FlyBuys points and a bit less than $40 in taxes and charges. Once you convert your FlyBuys magic beans, it works out at around 2c per Velocity point. That's is considered about average market value.

      • Have u ever looked at redemption during school holidays? Want to transfer to KrisFlyer for travel to Asia but it needs to be during school holidays.

The offer I have in my account is manual transfer min. 10k FB points and get 500 bonus FB points and 1K bonus Velocity points. In terms of benefit it's better bang for buck, but the overall quantity is obviously much smaller.

FWIW 10k FB points is equivalent to $60 in cold hard cash redeemed at Coles Group stores.

Redeeming for a flight, one flight I looked up costs 18k Velocity points for a flight that's valued at $202 (SYD-ADL Economy). So for 6k points (5k + 1k bonus) is worth about $67 towards the flight (keeping in mind you'd have to make up the balance of points, otherwise points + pay costs more in actual cash) and another $2.50 value back in FB points, so about $9.50 overall benefit. Sound about right?

    • Think Velocity has started implementing dynamic awards now which may factor in your calculations.

      • For better or worse, I figure worse as it used to be a flat rate to redeem a flight at any time of the day now the regular rate only seems to be achievable for red eye flights. Business flights can be ridiculously priced for rewards seats at more favourable flight times.

      • Fair enough, thanks. Sounds firmly like a YMMV (literally) situation :-)

    • How do you get 10k FB is worth $60? Every 2000 FB points you convert to $10 at checkout

Oops, sorry mea culpa should be $50 not $60. I was looking at my points balance which was 12k / $60. I'm unable to fix my original comment 'coz it's been replied to.

        • Dam, worst response ever. Thought I was gonna learn how to make an extra 20%

  • I have 500,000 points.. Still cant decide what to buy.

Flybuys has been awful at issuing these bonus points from promotions this year. Very difficult to follow up if they don't arive as well, they keep bouncing you in between Velocity and Flybuys until you give up.
