100x Paracetamol + 96x Ibuprofen + 10x Short-Dated Loratadine $11.99 Delivered @ PharmacySavings

360

Hi Ozbargainers,

I've received a few messages this week asking for "winter" deals on staple pain relief meds. As many of you have mentioned a few times before; Ibuprofen / Paracetamol is available at Coles, Woolies Aldi etc and often on sale. Despite the many requests I take a bit of heat for posting these items in on Ozbargain as many Ozbargainers are happy buying at Colesworth on sale/clearance or with their weekly shopping.

Seems however there are also many country folk, those who like to get their meds delivered to their offices without having to fossic around in their lunch breaks and those who just can't be bothered and want their meds delivered to their homes. Well this is the post for all of those kind people.

My good mates over at Dr Reddys nearly gifted me a few cartons of shorter dated Lorazol 10's - so i'm going to pay it forward and throw Loratadine (Hayfever symptom relief medication https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loratadine) in with the bundle tonight.

I haven't googled around yet, but my spider senses are telling me there isn't anyone selling a similar combo cheaper delivered anywhere in Oz.

  • Bought thanks

  • Diarrhoea Relief and Panadol sounds good, might give that a go along with 192 ibuprofen.

  • My order from 26 Jun still has not arrived.

    • Please, these things never expire.

The big question is, do pills expire? With a splitting headache, you reach into your medicine cabinet for some aspirin or ibuprofen only to find the stamped expiration date on the medicine bottle is more than a year out of date. So, does medicine expire? … It's true the effectiveness of a drug may decrease over time, but much of the original potency still remains even a decade after the expiration date. https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/drug-expirati…

      • Please send it to the TGA and tell them to ask Parliament to change the law. In the meantime, here is what NSW Health has to say about expired medicine.

Can I sell medicines past their expiry date, give them away for free or send them to a poor or disaster-stricken country?

No. It is illegal to supply any medicine (even unscheduled medicines, vitamins and herbal remedies) past the expiry date to anyone. Sending expired or unordered medicines to needy countries is generally not helpful, may exacerbate health problems and provide logistical issues for disposal.

        • So if the box says they expire in 2024 or end of September 2023, is it illegal to sell them? And these particular medications are they generally not helpful or can exacerbate health problems if taken a few years after expiry?

          • @AustriaBargain:

So if the box says they expire in 2024 or end of September 2023, is it illegal to sell them?

It is illegal to sell expired medicine. It is so written. The wording is unambiguous.

And these particular medications are they generally not helpful or can exacerbate health problems if taken a few years after expiry?

I do not have the expertise to answer that. I cannot tell if you have the expertise to answer that either.

            • +2

@alvian: So let me phrase it another way. If it is today July 2023 and the expiry date on the boxes is 2024 and September 2023, have those drugs expired?

              • @AustriaBargain: No, of course not. Why did you ask such an irrelevant question? Let me ask and then answer the relevant question.

Question: This deal was set to continue until 26 April 2024. If today is 1 October 2023 which is within the deal validity period, and the expiry dates on the boxes are 2024 and September 2023, have those drugs expired?

Answer: Lorazol, with an expiry date of September 2023 stamped on its packaging, has expired. PharmacySavings would have broken the law if it sells these expired packs of Lorazol on and after 1 October 2023. The other two medicines on offer have not expired and are legal to sell.

                • @alvian: Maybe they planned to swap out the end of September 2023 expiry drug with a different batch before 1 October 2023. As it is July 2023 the Lorazol has not expired yet and they still have the opportunity to remove that drug from the deal before 1 October 2023 or swap it out for a fresher batch. Nothing they have done is illegal, especially considering it's sold out so you have over three months to use it before expiry and after a quick Google it seems you have years to use it from your own cupboard after expiry, it's not illegal to use your own expired drugs.

                  • @AustriaBargain:

Maybe they planned to swap out the end of September 2023 expiry drug with a different batch before 1 October 2023.

You know that for certain? This seems a wild guess to me.

Nothing they have done is illegal.

Nothing they have done YET is illegal, and that is why this deal is allowed to stay published with a forced modification to the expiry date. Part of the offer is a short-date medicine, and so this offer will become illegal past 30 Sep 2023 if the expired packs are not swapped out. You hoped/guessed this will be done, but with no evidence to support your optimism.

      • You mean they hardly expire, depends on how they are kept. I've been taking 2018 expired paracetamol and they still work.

      • Can we check the source of your quoted article? https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/drug-expiration-dates-do-they-mean-anything

A column published in Psychopharmacology Today offers some advice.

Is Psychopharmacology Today a reputable journal? Don't know. I could only find this abandoned website that claims to be Psychopharmacology Today. Is this original source of your "Please, these things never expire" rebuttal?

    • Deal sold out in about 1 hour - I have to set an expiry date for the deal as otherwise it will auto expire after 30 days.

  • +1

Love your deals and your form, keep it up!

  • I really need a deal like this for children's Panadol and Nurofen!

  • Deal expiry date changed to conform with legislation.

    • +7

Mate - I have 50-60 units in stock and I know hundreds of peeps will buy at this price, the deal was never going to last more than a few days, turns out didn't even last a few hours.

The day I start promoting expired stock you are welcome to jump up and down, until then, perhaps cut me some slack.

      • the deal was never going to last more than a few days

Then our default 45 days expiry more than covered you estimate and you had no need to set an expiry date on this deal. Please do not set an expiry date that will make your offer illegal.

OZB members and now mods sure know his to shit on good vendors.

I get there are rules and laws. It was pretty clear he got mixed up with auto expiry. The title mentions it is short dated.

Some manners in your communication would be helpful.

          • -1

@ohyesss: The original title did not mention short dated. "Short-dated" was edited into the title.

Originally, the short expiry were mentioned in: "shorter dated Lorazol " and "10x Lorazol - Exp: End September 2023", in a deal description of over 300 words.

            • +3

@alvian: OK I didn't look at edits so fair enough.

Either way I think you should consider how you are communicating. It isn't appropriate.

      • +3

Feel like the mod here is being a bit pedantic here. Deal expire date set out past one of the products date but you haven't sold stock that's expired yet, you've done nothing illegal.
Instead of acting as both a user and a moderator probably should have just been the latter. Changed the deal expire date and advised you. Instead of creating a scene over nothing that could have been avoided.

        • -2

Instead of acting as both a user and a moderator probably should have just been the latter.

Moderators are allowed to make comments as users. That is one of the purposes of the Mod tag.

Instead of creating a scene over nothing that could have been avoided.

It could have been easily avoided by the rep not setting an exaggerated expiry date of over 280 days, when his best estimate was that this offer would only last a few days (not weeks or months).

          • +1

@alvian: I never said you can't make comments as a non mod.

But nothing wrong with a bit of kindness. You knew what he did was wrong you know the rules as better as anyone as a mod but instead of steering them you put your "user" tag on blast them; then rectify the solution with your "mod" tag.

Instead of kicking a good vendor down could have been nicer. By being the latter.

            • @KBZ: The rep knew what he did was wrong in the first instance, but he did it anyway. And not highlighting "short dated" in the title? That is not how a good rep would behave.

otherwise it will auto expire after 30 days

the deal was never going to last more than a few days

Even if he thought the auto expiry is 30 days, 30 days is still a significantly longer period than "a few days". And he could have chosen any other reasonable expiry date, say 72 days, which is 30 Sep 2023, the date of Lorazol's expiry? But he chose 26 April 2024, even though he knew better than anyone that the expired Lorazol would be illegal to sell from 1 October.

              • +1

@alvian: He still listed it in the body of the deal. I feel like now we are just gonna argue semantics if we go down this route.

If listing short dated in the title was so important to you, you would have done so for his other deal posts.

But whatever your site your rules.

                • @KBZ:

He still listed it in the body of the deal

And he also nominated 26 Apr 2024 as the expiry date for a deal that included a short-dated medicine.

If listing short dated in the title was so important to you, you would have done so for his other deal posts.

It is and he/we did. For examples,

                  https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/772639/revisions#1670277vs…
                  https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/757399/revisions#1636523vs…

                  • @alvian: Huh? He listed it in the original title there is no "we" in those examples. Just powerusers and mods fixing the title to be more presentable.

Here is one you can short dated if you want.
                    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/786021

                    Like I said semantics.

                    • @KBZ: Thank you. Please continue to help us correct posts by reporting on omissions and errors. You can best do so by filing a Report via the Report button that appears on each post.

@KBZ: Like I said, not a good rep.

                • +3

@KBZ: Just let them be king in their castle for tonight, clearly not worth the argument with old mate.

                  • @theozpilot: Yeah I think that would be best; thanks for the advice.

  • Says sold O ut

  • @jason101
