Looks like these work with the pixie nespresso machines… whats everyones thoughts on these? any good?

    • whats everyones thoughts on these? any good?

I have the 2nd gen Mr Coffee Pod pods, which are very similar, and they work great.

I would spend about 20 minutes cleaning and filling 2 weeks worth of pods (~ 30 pods for 2 people), but it meant using the coffee I wanted and saving a lot of $$$.

Over time I have personally found the compatible pods (1882, Espressoland etc) provide a nice balance of time and money between the refillables and Nespresso pods.

  • Looks the same as these but more expensive - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-IMPROVED-Refillable-Empty-Cof…

  • Each capsule can be used 20 times which is good but you would have to make a note every time you use one. Or could you tell it's been used 20 times?

A friend of mine used these in his Nespresso Pixi and it fcuked it (buggered the pump and the internal pod clamp)

Nespresso then denied his warranty because they could tell by the way the unit was damaged that he used something other than Nespresso pods in it..

So, IMO, you take your chances with this one…

I thought the point of having nespresso pods was so you just buy/use/throw away the ready packed pods.

This looks like as much trouble as a regular espresso machine.

    • True, but at least with the re-usable pods, you can spend 15mins preparing them all (getting messy), then through the week you can have quick hassle free coffee.

I don't get it. Doesn't this completely defeat the purpose of using pods?
Why not just use a normal espresso machine, and freshly ground beans?

Washing and re-using pods has to be way more hassle, and are the resusable pods really airtight? How can they be?

I'd say it gives you the option. You don't have to treat the pods as disposable if you want to try a different form of coffee, but the options there to if you feel lazy.

  • Don't think I have the patience to clean and refill capsules.
Bought these one time use capsules for $24 for 100 including delivery ie. 24 cents each:

Haven't used them yet but it looks easy to fill. Wanting to try chocolate, tea leaves or Vietnamese weasel coffee for a change. For convenience, Officeworks coffee is made in Italy and is good value and the quality is comparable to Nespresso.

    • Yeah I have seen those "fillable" Capsul'in pods, but haven't used them personally - they look to fit in-between the refillables and the compatibles / Nespresso pods, and provide a decent saving with little effort.

  • defeats the whole purpose of having a nespresso. spending time cleaning and refilling pods, and then buying new plastic pods. different branded coffee sure, if they are disposable and same or better quality.

  • Dammit, wish I had seen this earlier. I have bought these before, and would have stocked up if teh free shipping was still going. I have definitely used some of mine more than 20 times and only had 2 fail. The lid breaks off where it hinges so I could actually have kept using them anyway. No need to keep count of how many times you use them.
